Fighting Style
I’ve been asked recently what the fighting style in the movie will be like. Without seeing any footage it’s hard to say, but since some films have fight scenes similar to that which can be found in the Dragonball series, we can assume this movie will have similar. The following are a few examples of fights that the crew involved in this movie have done. Which would you prefer?
“The One” - James Wong (director)
“Kung Fu Hustle” - Stephen Chow (producer)
“The Matrix” - 87Eleven (stunts)

They should have The Matrix action and story line, but Kung fu Hustle’s martial arts and stunts

A mix of kung fu hustle and Matrix would totally rock…

I think the martial arts and overall style of Kung Fu Hustle would fit Dragonball perfectly. So, it’s pretty much a good thing that Stephen Chow is producing the film.

Well, I want to see the movie up-to Kung Fu Hustle level. The One was a ok movie and also the Matrixs. But I just want to know how the PG-13 level is going to be! If you seen a lot of action movies somethings the level PG-13 is more like R. In dragonball theres a lot of blood!…BLOOD!!Now, I’m not saying I want to see a blood bath action movie. I know theres going to be a lot of kids, (mostly 8 to 12 years old). But Spider-man, X-Men, Die Hard was PG-13 and time to time , the movie have “WOW” Action. I just want to know if the PG-13 level will be more like the TV (Tv-Y7 F V, Thoe the show was TV-Y7 F V they still have a lot of blood and action!) or will it be UNCUT!

I would like to see a higher rating in Dragonball also!! Not to much blood though, because there will be kids. If they do make blood in the movie I hope they make it like season 3 of Dragonball Z. You know the scene when Frieza stuck his horns in Krillan. That was pretty cool!!

I hope melee combat will be like this:

Mixing elements from all 3 of these movies would be pretty awesome, but insanely complicated. tey probably did that

The fighting style should be okay i guess, but i do hope - and most likely im not the only one - that there will not just be hand-to-hand combat, but some “energy releases” as well…
Id really love some kamehameha

All of the series of Dragon ball are not really little kids stuff is mostly has sex contact and some say bad words not that much but it has some so is kind of PG 13 level.Just watch at the cartoons series and pay attention on Master Roshi he is funny ass hell, yall will see what Dragon ball is.But in English version does not sound the same is not that kind of like the original (Japenise version) or (spanish version),they change a little of the words because of the bad words and sex contact they have. But believe me I know spanish and a little Japenise and im telling you Dragon Ball is PG 13 LEVEL! HOPE YALL READ MY COMMENT.

[...] each James Wong film to give you a better idea of what movie style to expect. Then, I compared the fighting styles of different movies that James Wong, Stephen Chow, and 87Eleven (stunts) were involved [...]

The Kung Fu Hustle fight was just like the Agent Smith fight but it was so much better. Just how that one guy moved (the young one), he’s so much faster than Keanu Reeves and made the hits have a lot more impact.

@Jose: I believe you Jose, because I read the manga which had all that in it.

Also, the fights for the DB movie (to be like the source, that is) would have to be almost all CGI. They move like lighting in the DB fights and then there’s the afterimage techniques.

i think the fighting style should come from all three movies. they all action flicks. in they all got a lot tough or crazy fighting moves.

yall should use the fighting style from the one, kung fu hustle, and the matrix. use the special effects from kung fu hustle, and the matrix.

July 17th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
i hope they dont have matrix-like fighting style because you can so see the the parts when hes been held up in the air by wires :(, I’d go with “the one” or “kung fu hustle”
July 17th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
o yea I forgot, its crap that they dont have super saiyen in this movie, I just want to know how they would make it look like
July 18th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
i personally think that the one and matrix did the best.but what they need to do is mix these together and also make sure that they stay true to the combat formula that fans enjoy.i cant really say for sure which is better because neither has any flying involved which is something that would kill the whole trilogy if they decided to cut out.

I think and recommend use all combination of fighting styles like the matrix, kung-fu hustle and the one, but remember the martial art role and melee combats, also remember the fighting martial art of Goku is Kendo in the DB series, but I really want to see combats in which the fight seems real not fictitious at all, I know that is a sci-fi live movie, but in the anime the punch and kicks sounds really awesome and in a child mind we feel the pain of that hits, is some of I want to see and feel again in the movie… thanks!!! I’m awaiting to see the quality of this film… take my recommendations please!!!

Matrix and Kung Fu Hustle. Not the one. Every move should have special effects. Remember this this dragon ball. They have special powers. They are not human. Personally I think the one suck, not even sure why it would be in the question. Dragon ball has a lot of fighting but it’s not a Kung Fu movie. I think people like it because of special powers. I know it’s live action but I think the whole movie should use the help of CGI or something whatever you call it.
August 16th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
@Nathan: dragonball didn have so much special powers…only the flying, afterimage move, kamehameha and piccolos energy blast…the other things was just fighting….you might be mixing up dragonball with dbz
