Dragonball Sequel To Begin Filming 2009?

Another huge rumor from Movieland.
Second part of Dragonball will be shot in the first quarter of 2009
One of my sources was able to talk to one of the contractors who work with the production of Dragonball in Durango, and this person says that the production has assured him that all three films are set to film in Durango, and that they secured his job for the coming years as a supplier of production … He also commented that if things go well, “Dragonball 2″ could begin filming at the end of the first quarter of 2009, that is, within a year.
This is something that certainly is good news for fans and of course for the people of Durango, as this indicates that the trilogy will be shot in Durango, which makes sense, since it was revealed that some sets of Dragonball would stay in Durango even when filming was complete.
It also depends on how much is made at the box office and the acceptance of fans … But we hope that all goes well.
I did my best at translating. From what I can gather, it seems like they are indeed planning on a sequel with the same cast, crew and locations.

if they decide to film db2 at the end of the second quarter ‘09 based off of responses/feedback from the audience and obviously financiers it would definitely suggest that they would release the movie at the end of 08. building sets and all takes at least a couple months or more (even if they don’t demolish most of the sets from the first movie)
Yeah they should make it as real as they can, gt prolly sounds good to you thomas, but in reality that would be a mess on the big screen. as long as they fit the pieces together in between 123 im good. also think they should stop at frieza and not rush all the info through 3 movies
Yes, please God no GT; how awful would that look to viewers. Besides It seems like the movie might come out in December, because if it’s the first quarter of 2009 like you said then that would be in March. And they said the movie is suppose to come out in April? How would that work? Nope, if that’s true then it’s going to come out much sooner; but only if what you said is true. We’ll see.

i know that dragonball 2 will be Dragonball Z because, they showed someone that might be king vegeta. That means that it will be dbz because king vegeta was from dbz. Well, unless they did a history of saiyans movie instead, but that would suck. The Dragonball 2/Z should be about the saiyan and freiza sagas. They should show raditz coming to earth but not let goku die. Then the part where Gohan trains Piccolo. And Then Vegeta and Nappa parts. Then they should skip the ginyu saga. Then go straight to frieza. I dont know if they should make the frieza saga on earth or namek because i think a live action namek would be pretty weird.

I don’t think that it’ll be the Piccolo Jr. saga. Personally, I think two movies, each with a Piccolo in it as the villain, would be pretty damn boring. They’ll probably just skip to the Saiyan saga, then Namek/Freeza saga. I’m also thinking that maybe there will be no Piccolo Jr. Maybe it’ll just be Piccolo all the way through. Cause multicellular organisms reproducint asexually like Nameks do…there would be no species. They can’t all look alike because there’s no real gene pool. Yes, I’m thinking way too much, but Fox has to consider this kind of stuff, cause that weirdness may turn a lot of people off to it. Which brings me to my next topic…female Nameks @_@ whoa. That would be interesting. ‘Course they might just say, “fuck it” and keep everything the way it was.

The movie will probably will released on December of this year and depending on how well it does in the box office, then they will decide whether to make the sequels or not.
In my opinion, DB 2 would be the Saiyan Saga and DB 3 the Frieza saga.
Oh, and I loved the Buu saga. He doesnt really have to turn people into chocolate in a real live action movie, but Majin Buu would look awesome in a real live action movie. And yeah, lay off the cocaine please.

If Fox was going to put Dragonball in December
they would have shown a teasor during the Superbowl or they would of given us a poster or something by now. Spiderman 3 showed there fans a poster of the black suited spidey a year before it came out. Dragonball is a big budget movie. I think April 2009 is an excellent time to put it out…. The fan base is going to be huge by that time. Probally as huge as Star wars episode I. Plus it’s enough time to make the special effects look amazing!

first off, i’m pumped about the sequels because it will give everyone a chance to bulk up for their roles
i’d imagine that the sequel will cover the saiyan saga, ending with vegeta’s defeat and mentioning something about freiza. I hope they keep everything with goku dying and training with king kai and gohan’s training with piccolo.
i’ll bet the third one covers the freiza saga, ending with goku becoming a super saiyan and killing freiza. That would be awesome and a good place to end the trilogy.
and for those who think they should make a GT movie, that would be an awful idea as GT already sucked as a cartoon.
Hi everyone, long time reader first time poster. (sorry couldn’t help it) Has anyone seen the GI Joe add on yahoo.com. They have not even finished shooting it yet but there is already some cool photos of snake eyes (http://www.accesshollywood.com/gallery/1338/gi-joe/?__source=omg). And what have we got from DB, nothing even close, seriously we neeed something cool from them.
I think the most epic way they could do this “trilogy” is to end it at the Frieza Saga and actually have Goku die with the planet Namek like Toriyama originally planned it. But I think that it would be completely irrelevant for them to remove Goku’s death in by Piccolo in the Raditz fight, because without that he would not have learned the Spirit Bomb and Kaioken, which were incredibly important attacks for both the Vegeta and Frieza sagas. Oh, and as for a GT movie, hell the eff no!!

robert g, i agree that the cell saga is awesome (debatebly the best) and would definently like to see the saga in live action, but i feel that if everything from the arrival of raditz to the defeat of frieza is put into one movie, everything would seem like it was crammed in. There would be no room for character development such as vegeta going from a villan to one of the good guys and piccolo finally finding a friend in gohan. i’d like to see cell and the androids on the big screen, but not if it means sacrificing the crucial moments in the saiyan and frieza sagas. who knows, if the trilogy goes well they’ll be bound to make more if they can keep bringing in money. hell, they might as well do 5 films and cover buu too… but to do DBGT would be stretching it a little too far.
Let’s just do the 3 movies and end it the way it was meant to end - with Goku dying with Namek’s explosion, ultimately saving the universe from the biggest threat ever: Freeza.

They have to introduce Oozaru or at least mention him in Dragonball, because Vegeta needs to transform into Oozaru in order to give Goku competition. Plus Oozaru plays an important role in Dragonball!! Remember that’s how they took over planets?
My friend in mexico says that the DB sets will stay there. There is a notice in the press that they will continue filming another movie in Durango. The sequel! My friend went to Durango for seeing with hiw own eyes the magnitude of the sets. He had the chance to see the sets and he says they were awsome. ANd the landscapes look exactly like the real battlefields of DB.

Hahaha! You obviously have no clue what Dragonball was initially all about. Although those fillers were very entertaining, I do not think that it can be compromised, with the whole Dragonball mythos. Even though he is pretty loose, Akira Toriyama would have dark anger, deep inside his soul, hehe.

Corey, if they actually make a Cell movie, they will indeed make a Buu one. Just because YOU didnt like the Buu saga it doesnt mean many of us didnt and it also doesnt mean that Fox will end it at Cell. If they are making a trilogy, the second part must be the Saiyan saga and the third part Frieza saga.
By the way, there wont be oozarus. They are making this movie “realistic”, so forget about oozarus. Forget about them man. They would look shitty and ridiculous in a live action movie. Sorry if im being hard, but you keep bringing on the oozaru transformation and it might have looked ok in the anime, but not in a real live action movie.
Another thing, I hope they get rid of the “die-and-then-come-back-to-life” thing that was a bit annoying. DB and DBZ are the best but that thing annoyed me a bit, because deaths didnt mean too much if they could revive them all the time. So lets hope Goku only dies in the end of the third movie in his fight with Frieza, now that would be epic.

My God… robert… did you know Akira originally wanted to end Dragonball Z at the end of the Frieza saga with Goku dying with Frieza at the end?. “A real db fan would know that”. That would be epic. The legendary Super Saiyan dying while avenging his race by killing the villain who destroyed the Saiyans. Of course the Cell and Buu sagas are great too, but in a live action trilogy, that would be a great ending (having Goku die at the end of the third fighting Frieza).

My thoughts on the red ribbon army for the android movie they could do a flash back to goku as a young boy and the full moon is out when a bunch of RRA troops come across him and he takes out the RRA in one go, then dr.gero will see its just a boy with enough power to take out an army so he builds androids to defeat him and has tracking bugs fallow him through out the first 2 movies (misses the 3rd cause they are on namik) trunks comes kills mecha freeza king cold troops and warns the gang about the androids they train the androids come, kill off 19 and 20 insane fights between 17-18-16 ending it with cell, cell does his thing blah blah gohan kills him YAY, then all the buu crap in one movie done DB movies over fans get what they want no GT! gt was fun at times but ya know… lol

Goku escaped the namek explosion on one of Ginyu´s pod and since he didnt know how to use it, he just started it on and couldnt control it, so he just escaped the explosion but couldnt control the pod, thats why his pod crashed on that planet where he was then taught instant transmition.

Not to mention that their budget isn’t quite THAT big. I mean, they have to work on a CGI dragon, and all of the fighting effects, too . . . adding a giant monkey to the mix would be overkill, and would most likely turn out looking half-assed because they don’t have the time/money to work on it correctly. I mean, it would never look like King Kong, which they spent $200,000,000 + on . . .
Besdies which, you can tell the “Goku is an alien” story just as well without any giant monkeys running around. The oozaru doesn’t make too many plot important appearances, anyway. They could — and probably will — easily write around it.

cant wait for a sequel because i know Dragonball is gunna do awesome…but already??? we havent even got the first one yet and fox is being stupid and keeps delaying it…saying its now April 8th 2009…..at this rate ill be 30 before this series is done…but when they do release a sequel call it Dragonball Z…since it’s what comes after King Piccolo..only makes sense
First of all, I think it’s way too early to get excited about any possible sequels because we haven’t even seen or heard anything about the first one yet outside of the cast members, locations, and possible plot synopsis. No pictures or even a trailer to go on yet. For all we know, the first movie could bomb and then Fox won’t even make the sequels all together. Personally, although, I consider myself a dragon ball z fan, I’d be lying if I didn’t say i was a bit skeptical about the movie. After all lets face it, there’s a lot of cartoons and comic book characters (or mangas in Japan) that wouldn’t translate well into a film at least without major changes. My biggest fear is that Dragon Ball Z might be one of them that might not make the translation well. Sure they can change a lot to it to make it realistic, but a lot of that depends on the writers and directors interpretation of the mythology. Look at the first two Batman movies with Michael Keaton, they were pretty good, then Joel Schumacher re envisioned it back to the campy version again; making it turn into a piece of crap during “Batman and Robin.” Or the first two Terminator movies, they were both great and epic but when James Cameron left the series, the 3rd movie came out rather weak and unrealistic because the new director chose a lighter tone for the series. A lot of this movie’s success will hinge on the directors and writers interpretation of the mythology and how they choose to handle the changes without totally undermining the basis of which these characters are.
Obviously, they can’t just take the Dragon Ball movie straight up without changing it in a way because if they did it straight out of the manga or anime, it would be a bomb because there’s a lot of things that wouldn’t translate well. Look at Popeye for instance, when they made that into a movie, they took it straight out of the comic strip and turned it into a movie without changing the character. You want to know why it bombed? Simply put, if you honestly stopped to analyze his cartoons, generically about 98 percent of his episodes always have him doing the same thing; beating up Bluto after eating his spinach and winning Olive Oyle’s heart in various 5 min cartoons. Plus, you could hardly understand what he was saying, so when they made the movie, it bombed because it came out campy and stupid. I know by now, some of you will criticize saying what does this have to do with Dragon Ball. However, I’m about to get to that now. Changes will have to made to storyline obviously if they want the Dragon Ball movie to be realistic. For one, if you they just simply put Master Roshi in there like he was in the DBZ: Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan movie, where it was all intense where the Z fighters were battling Broly, and Master Roshi shows up out of nowhere and makes funny faces for no reason, then that wouldn’t fair well for non DBZ fans watching the movie. Turning most movie goers off. The talking cat guardian, would have to go, and sadly the Oozaru transformation wouldn’t make a lot of sense in a live action version of DB. Because for one, if your a non fan of the anime or manga, the first question you’d ask is if Goku could transform into that, why didn’t he do that in the first place and beat the crap out of Piccolo. I’m sorry, but its the truth. Plus, I don’t know who said this earlier, but I agree with whoever said they can tell about Goku’s Saiyan heritage without it anyway. Plus, the whole coming back to life thing wouldn’t translate as well because it would make the fights in the live action less meaningful. People would be like why should the Z fighters care if a few innocent people die here and there or even themselves, they can just wish them back with the Dragon Balls. In order to make this a successful movie, Fox will have to give most movie goers, even the non fans, a reason to root for these characters plight, so the constant bringing back to life bit although sure works in the anime, it would come off rather stupid and cheesy.
Look at the Superman movie series with Christopher Reeves, did you guys know that Lex Luthor’s original origin was that he grew up in Smallville with Superman, but due to a chemical explosion he ends up bald, so he becomes a super villain. You heard me, he becomes bald, so now he wants to be a villain. Can you imagine what would’ve happened if they had used that origin in the movie? It probably would’ve sucked because its a stupid origin to begin with. Therefore, Warner Brothers, had to change that for the live action Superman movie. Just like Fox will undoubtedly have to make some major changes to the DB mythology a bit in order for it to work on the big screen.
I know most of you have your ideas of what DBZ storylines you want to see on the big screen like the Majin Buu saga, Andriod/Cell saga, frieza saga, saiyan saga, but in order for them to work, they would need some changes to them to make them more realistic. I’m sorry to say that, but it’s the truth. If they took any of them straight out of the Manga, it would probably bomb. Personally, I hope whoever the writers and directors are, that they did do some research on the material, and hopefully do a movie that will at least stay true to the characters. They can get away with tweaking the story to make it more realistic, but as long as they don’t undermine its’ mythology completely, it should be good.
In conclusion to this, I just say lets just wait until Fox releases a damn trailer and a official plot synopsis before we start getting carried away here.
This movie will not bomb at the box-office, there’s no chance in hell of that happening. Why is everybody saying it could? How many DragonBall fans in America do we have? or in the world for that matter? There’s at least 5 to 15 million fans in the U.S. alone, not to mention there’s approximately 130 million people living in Japan right now. How many of them do you think will go and watch Dragonball in theaters? I might be over-dramatic here but I’d have to say 1/4 to 1/2 of their population would pay to watch it. And the average ticket ranges around 7-10 dollars in the America and Japan. Multiply that by the number of fans…not to mention the non-db fans who are also going to wanna watch it. Now tell me if it won’t be successful.

thank you cedric for telling me shut up. lol. all i was saying is that in order for dragon ball to be a hit in the theatres, they’re going to need to make it appeal to not only fans of the show, but non fans too to incorporate them. Hell, look at the Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman franchises for instance. Did you know that statiscally, most of their sales came from non fans of the comics. Or should i say mostly people that were unfamiliar with the characters but the movies were made to appeal to people so non fans could watch it as well as the fans. Don’t believe me, then look at the last Star Trek movie, and see how well that fared when it made its’ last movie to mainly appeal to its’ own fans. So trust me, it is possible it could bomb, so thats why I said this movie will hinge on how the writers and directors choose to make this movie appeal to satisfy fans like us and incorporate new fans as well.
ok…well…just to shed some light on DB:GT it would be the last movie, so im pretty sure it wouldnt matter if it sucked balls….cause it would be the LAST movie….but yea the idiots who worked on DB:GT anime really made the dragonball legend look horrible….thankfully i just wanted to see the last episode….if ya ever noticed, DB:GT was nothing but a BIG what if.
I don’t know…granted you can never cover epic battles and long story lines in DBZ on the big screen. I think with the complexity of some situations and fights, you could draw out the sagas a bit into more movies and still keep them exciting.
Movie 1: Is obviously Piccolo, if rumors are true it was already leaked such things about goku being married at the end of the movie and piccolo giving birth to his jr self. I’d imagine by the 2nd movie it is years later and gohan is like 5 already when Raditz shows up
Movie 2: Radits shows up and Goku/Piccolo defeat him with gokus death in the process. A year quickly passes before Vegita shows up during which time they gathered dragonballs to revive Goku and save the day. Epic goku vs vegita fight at the end. Piccolo would die too so they have to go to namek.
Movie 3: Goku is injured and everyone uses piccolos ship to run off to namek right away. Later to find out Vegita is on namek, Goku hops a newly crafted ship by bulmas company and rushes off to namek with his handful of sensu beans. This movie might feel drawn out, but durin it would be alot of vegita killing frieza’s little no name warriors. Gohan, Bulma and others hunting down dragonballs while meeting nameks. The end would be Goku defeating the ginyu force and cliffhanging into movie 4.
Movie 4: I was thinking movie 3 and 4 could arrange things differently. Perhaps Frieza was not even on Namek yet but his henchmen were doin prep work. We could start with word that frieza is arriving soon. Goku being hurt from the ginyu fight could need to rest in that chamber while everyone else starts dealing with frieza. This movie would be mostly fighting as everyone gets a crack at frieza through out his many forms.
But would a movie almost all dedicated to frieza be too boring? Just like someone else pointed out how much story is missing if they ever touch androids and cell. A lot happend on namek, too much for them to cover in 1 movie. Even from the moment Goku wakes up to fight Frieza, alot happens in the span of him watching vegita die, starting the fight, the spirit bomb, krillin dieing (kinda important, no krillin is gonna be hard to replace this) causing him to go super saiyan. Mid fight the wish to revive everyone on namek and send them to earth followed by Goku defeating Frieza and the planet blowing.
I think the true DBZ fans would enjoy a 2 hour movie with constant fighting against frieza. We are talking about a cartoon that 7 minutes of Namek blowing up lasted over an hour of viewing time. You can watch the Goku vs Frieza fight in an edited full fight only, no fillers and it is 3 hours of video time. Nuff said for now.
They’re only planning 3 movies, not 4. Namek saga doesn’t need to be two movies.
i agree with adam here. the namek saga and frieza saga were part of the same saga anyway. plus, the frieza saga by itself isn’t a story, its just a giant slugfest with goku and frieza, so it would need the namek saga to add a bit of a story to it.
I have a feeling Fox is making this decision that is no different to burning money because they only read the comments here and not the ones in Japan and other Asian countries

dragon baLL AF never came to the united states because it was terrible,dey didnt release more than 10 episodes because they tried to get to into the past and it didnt work like dey tried to bring back radits,nappa,king vegeta,and bardock back and they tried to make new vegeta (the planet) and at 1st i thought that was going to be awesome but it didnt turn out so well and the other problem was super saiyan 5 just didnt look cool anymore it was just a big hairy gorilla after awhile.

i dont think chatwin is right for a dragonball role, he’s to old, in the beginning of dragonball goku was like 7, unless there just skipping the childhood thing and going right to the end of dragonball when goku was a teenager, in that case the next movie would HAVE to be dragonball z not 2, cause dragonball ended with goku fighting piccolo at the world martial arts tournament. but i wonder if there going to have goku turn into an ape in this movie. that would be interesting to see. honestly i feel that fox is goin to do a pretty bad job with this first movie, but dont worry all you dragonball z fanboys. i have faith that the sequel will surpass the first movie by 10 fold only in that they will know what they did wrong and improve on visual effects and character structure

Movie 1: Goku vs. Piccolo ending with the latter who doesn’t die..
Movie 2: I think the character of Radditz would be totally cancelled and instead it would be something like vegeta comes to earth with frieza who is his boss and he will be something like the brother of goku at least explaining his true origins to him.. he secretly tries to get revenge against frieza by getting the dragonballs before him but in the end gets killed and desperately asks goku to defeat frieza.. goku vs frieza ending with goku becoming super sayan and defeating him.. vegeta brought back to life at the end..
Movie 3: Cell or buu?

I think movie 2 would just be Nappa and Vegeta with a hint at Frieza coming to Earth (Instead of Namek). I couldnt see them introducing all of the charecters in one movie like that, plus there needs to be enough time to build up how cruel and horrible Frieza is. And if Goku is fighting Vegeta the whole movie how could there possibly be enough time for that?
Movie 1 - Goku vs Evil Piccolo (who he kills, but before dying spits out regular Piccolo)
Movie 2 - Goku and Piccolo Vs. Nappa and Vegeta. (Goku dies in the end/ gets trained by king Kai)
Movie 3 - Piccolo and the other Z fighters train hard to prepare for Frieza, start to fight the Ginyu Force. Goku returns kills every memeber of the Ginyu Force with ease, including captain Ginyu (avoiding the whole body transfer bullshit) Goku starts to fight Frieza realizes he is f***ed Frieza kills an important charecter possibly Krillen if they ever use him. Goku goes Super Saiyan kills Frieza and saves the day.
and if all the movies make a freakin kiling, then they’ll possibly make a Android/Cell movie and maybe a Buu movie, but i would be happy with it ending with Frieza.

I saw the trailer and its kind a cool but i think they should not dismantle the aspects of dragonball that much because the movie might suck. i want to see the freakin piccollo more and maybe a super saiyan on the next movie. im not so impressed by the way the first was shown on its trailer……hayz i was hoping to see a real dragonball movie!

Hmm… I think they’re going to have to be very careful with the dragonball movies. The idea of too many movies or all the sagas being in movies seem like it’ll drag out too long. They should only put the best ones in movie. Which are in my opinion:

Saiyan Saga
Cell Saga
That would be pretty damn cool. Can’t wait for the second movie though. I hope Gohan’ll be in it!!

and the rest of the guys fighting the two saiyans!!!! then have Vegeta join the team,,, and myabe DB 3 would on Namik! searching for the dragonballs yet again and fighting Freiza who destroyed the saiyan race!!!!! wouldn’t that be awsome.. explaining that Goku is no ordinary person, he is a saiyan!! I could imagine the movie with Freize could be just awsome…

thats what i was thinking, though maybe you could include the Z fighters fighters in the second movie, it would be alot easier to introduce them , than in the third movie. But then again,,, the story of Goku saving z fighters from saiyans, is the same as GOku saving them again in the freiza saga.. but i dunno

Justin Chatwin is the only person that fits the character he’s playing as, but Fat, Rossum, and Marsters are irrevalent to what the characters from dragonball really looks like. At least make master Roshi look like a bum. Other than that, I’m excited about this new dragonball movie, and (TBA) Dragonball 2.

If the trilogy is a success and there is a high demand for the cell saga then i believe they should make it, however if they were to i wouldnt include 16,17,18 even though 16 contributed to gohan turning ssj2.
i do think dr gero should be included though and should get his as whooped by a ssj vegeta, then cell appears then goku, comes back

I hate when all you fake ass fans that be sweatin Akira Toriyama’s stankin ass. All he ever did was trying to make money off of DBZ and then kill it while it’s popular. Even though he created it, why the hell he get us fans so excited to watch more, and more of it and then kill it. We fans made AKIRA rich and all he can do is say no more NEW DRAGON BALL SERIES. I understand it took you along time to make it an ANIME series, but he did that to himself by prolonging the fight with stupid episodes showing the Z FIGHTERS being in school and going for a licence and shit. Yaw said GT was crap, “bitches please”. That’s why you watched it to the end didn’t cha. The only thing that GT did wrong was that Vegeta wasn’t in it as much as Kakarot was, and vegeta should have transformed SS3 in that one. And should have tried to reach SS4 since KAKAROT did it during the BABI SAGA. BABI should have had a different body than using VEGETAS body, (”that would’ve worked”), so we can see Vegeta transformed into a SS3. Then later in the fight we can see Vegeta transform into a mystic SS3 and see what that would look like. And VEGETA and Kakarot fighting BABI as a mystic SS3, but then later Kakarot transforms into SS4 in front of VEGETA, and he gets upset that Kakarot surpassed him again. That would have worked for the first battle against BABI. And of course Gohan and Goten train together as brothers to get as strong as their fathers to protect the earth to battle evil foes. They should have reached regular SS3, and as for Trunks. They should’ve showed him training with Vegeta, with both of them training with attitude like taunting each other while they are training. That would have been tight to watch, and see the reaction of both of them taunting each other while fighting. That would have made a perfect beginning of seeing TRUNKS in GT as a teenager getting strong and with attitude just like his father. The clothes of Trunks should have been more cool than letting him wear clothes that only GEEKS would wear. And as for Piccillo, they should have had the namek people figure out a way to make him the ULTIMATE NAMEK, since they do carry alot of wisdom, and PICCILLO is their strongest namek fighter they ever had. They should have had his appearance look kind of different while he transforms to the ultimate namek fighter and with different clothing as well. Have Piccillo have a different signature move with his new powers, and have his ability have no limits to get stronger, (”something like a saiyan.”) And as for Yamcha, Tien, and Krillin. They should have had MR. PO PO had some kind of hiddin secret to mankinds secret ability. Like for instance, Humans weren’t always weaklings as it is portrayed. That a long time ago there was a human race that had special powers, and were really strong and soon died out taking their secret ability with them, but MR. PO PO kept the secret hiddin only for the right time for the right human being to posses it. And Yamcha, Tien and Krillin were aquired this ability to help out earths cause, and that this ability prolongs their life expansion. And their look should have made them a bit bulkier and with new signature moves. That would have nice to watch too. And as for AKIRA, fuck him. He should sell the rights to FUNIMATION so they can fix their mistakes and take fans advise to making a good DRAGONBALL SERIES, that would work.
I hope this movie goes all the way into the DBGT saga which IMO, I like it as much as DBZ.

I liek the anime, and if i dont like the movie i just wont watch it agai and ill watch dragonball z again. well i thought the first movie was great am a big fan loved the cartoon (just wish he had gone blonde in the movie maybe in 2 ? who knows) i am buzzing to here there will be a trilogy i just hope the 3rd film will be set around the cell or majin buu saga as i think they would make great movies (the cell saga was my favourite when i watched the animated version) although if not the freeza saga would do lets hope for more dragonball soon
It sounds to me they made an adaption for obvious reasons (short movie timeframe, budget, ect) and set it up for the candy, which would be the next movies. I, as a fan, am confident that the next movie will be alright-to-very good! My reasons is that they can focus less on setting it up and focus more and what is on hand. They should film both movies at once and split it into two films, one about Vegeta and the other about Freeza. That would be wise. And make them roughly two hours long.
The second movie can be very simple: Raditz comes to earth to find Goku (his brother) but Goku refuses and before you know it, the story is set up where the fighters prepare, thus building up anticipating for the final twoshowdowns, the one with Nappa and the one with Vegeta. The movie ends off with the fighters going to Namek and a scene which shows Vegeta heading to Namek as a result of Freeza heading there.
And if Goku doesn’t die and go to King Kai’s I am going to be unhappy.
Heres a thought: Freeza kills Chi-chi and Goku turns super saiyans

I just saw the Dragon Ball movie, and it wasn’t horrible, but at the same time, it wasn’t amazing. They changed some things that they shouldn’t have. For example, Shenron was a midget compared to the one from the show, and didn’t even talk.
James Marsters claimed that he’d be glad to continue with the DB movies, and that the fans will better recognize him in future cinematic installments. Basically, he’s saying Piccolo will look like Piccolo. It gives me hope that they may stay more true to the series with a sequel.
If they could make it longer, and stay more true to the series with a sequel, I’d be all for it 100%. Especially a Frieza saga
i think the first 1/2 hour should be last few bits in dragonball showing piccolo then the rest should be saiyan saga then 3 would be frieza saga and if they went up to GT just do the beginin y goku woz a kid the baby saga and omega shenron

The problem with the first movie was the lack of effort from the actors, the unimpressive score and the fact that the movie was too short. If they’re gonna make a sequel(who I believe they will) they need to push the actors more first. When Stanley Kubrick disliked a scene he just remade it over and over again till it was right. In this case the director seems to have been too kind. Not to mention the lack of graphic violence. There was only one person who was actually bleeding!
To make the sequels work, these things need to be improved. And more characters should be presented. Krillin deserves to get on the stage. The saiyans too perhaps, but how to make there part in the story work too is a tough job. Especially with all the hard core fans out there who is ready to go all angry mob with torches over an adoption who doesn’t work for them.
And who can who can really blame this movie for it’s minuses when there’s so much pressure already from every single Dragonball fan from around the globe?!
The casting and design of the characters shouldn’t be a problem.

I think that the next movie HAS to be on piccolo jr because i have seen the movie and they don’t have any Tien, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, or even Krillin. And piccolo jr has not been introduced either. So if they skip straight to the sain saga than they will be missing so many people and it will just be really lame.
the story to the movie was pretty exact to the series but the major thing in the movie was that they had some 7 mystics doing everything that kami should have done. So if they make the sequel on piccolo jr than they can introduce all the charactors that they forgot to put in the first movie and they could have a big twist when they introduce Kami and tell the story about the whole Kami and King Piccolo history. They then have an epic fight between Piccolo jr and Goku.
And than after the Piccolo jr movie they than could have the Sain movie and it would be so much better than what it would be if they skiped strait to it. than they could have a movie on frieza were Guku dies to finish it up…….now that would be a coll set of movies.
i dont think they would put the saiyan saga and frieza saga in 1 movie. to do that they would have to cut out to much. i think they will take their time, and HOPEFULLY make a dragon ball “Z” movie with raditz, nappa, and vegeta. Instead of Goku dying after the fight with raditz he will probably just be hospitalized, but what ever they do, i hope it is ATLEAST PG-13, i mean a little bit more violence would be nice.

I’m tired of people saying “It’s different form the original story!” and pointing out like 8 differences.
It’s because it’s based off the original manga, not copying the story, but just taking main points and making a story from it and making an almost new story, I actually love what they did with it, because they didn’t totally butcher the main story, just changed it to be more modern.
So, with that said, when the sequel is out, it’s a for sure that I’m going to see it
@JohnSabala: Your just pissed off cuz ur not getting a new Dragonball Series, the whole Dragonball Series is perfect the way it is, and just for your information there is a continuation of the series, in a new mmorpg called Dragonball Online, it’s a continuation of the anime/manga. The New Dragonball live action Movies (hopefully) are different ways of telling the story and different scenerios, just like the original movies. And don’t go making fun of Akria like that, he is the man!!! He created the Dragonball Series, even though to me, the series took on it’s own life and spirit after it’s creation. So really he just created it, then after he did that, it came to life. But if you’re so pissed of at him, just right him a letter, don’t go posting up how much you hate him, that is the most cowardly way to make fun of someone because…. they can’t defend themselves, if you want to make fun of him, tell him in an email or sumthing don’t post it up on somewhere he may never look, you coward. On anther note, yes gt was really good, I don’t know why a lot of people don’t like it, but yeah it was still really good, along with the whole Dragonball Series. I am open minded I like anything and everything of the Dragonball series whether it was created by akria or not, you basically just like what akira didn’t create lol, and some people just like just what he created. I am very open minded and love everything of the Dragonball series, even if it was or wasn’t created by him. To me if it’s set in the Dragonball Universe then it’s cannon. He created the Dragonball Universe, so if it’s set in that same universe, it’s important to me, that’s basically what I was saying about the series coming to life after he created it. So basically I’m very open minded and having an open mind let’s you enjoy life and helps you appreciate everything. If people would stop criticizing everything, and start appreciating what is right in front of them, the world would be a much more pleasant place. I appreciate life, and live it to the fullest, and to me anything and everything that is set in the Dragonball Universe is magical, full of incredible mythology, and an inspiration to my everyday life.

i think that both JohnSabala and Albert Fernandez is right. when JohnSabala said that GT was the most gay thing and i have to agree with him, his ideas on what they could have done to make GT better were good. But Albert Fernandez was right in saying that the movie was good, because it was if u look at it from a different angle and hopefuly when they do make a live action dragonball z movie they hopefuly will have a big budget from u people buying the dvd to make it as epic as the cartoon was.

This movie was nothing like what I expected. I am so disappointed in the way that things were so sloppily put together! This could have been a Disney film. And yes, a hairline scratch is the only drop of blood you will catch in any fighting. The whole story is so far off, its an insult to the everything Dragon Ball. From the shabby acting, to the warped story telling, I don’t know what to hate more. I’ll just stick to the anime

As far as this movie goes i was disappointed as well. I liked the cartoon series and was hoping for that. I know that much information for one movie is insane to ask for but the movie itself was only, i think, 71 min long. Plenty of time to get more background. Also it seemed to me that it was way to choppy. The acting was sub-par as well as the special effects. I love the fact they are making a sequel but much room to improve on this one.

I totally agree with everyone Buu saga and GT sucks, and it does NOT need to be made in to a movie. I think it would be awesome with the movies being:
1. The Saiyan Saga
2. The Ginyu/Frieza Saga
3. The Android/Cell Saga
And end it as Gohan taking his father’s place, and Future Trunks in his future being the World savior. You know kind of the new Goku and Vegeta. However, they have to find a kick ass guy for Future Trunks: a guy who can pull of both purple and blonde hair, blue and green eyes, a great muscular build and definitely someone who can be a street fighter/ martial artist sicne Trunks only had a little training from Gohan and ends up with a mix style from fighting one against two with a pair of androids. He also has to be a great swordmaster since in the series he IS a swordmaster. On top of all of this the androids have to look awesome and know how to fight together and separately. I would also really like The History of Trunks, Bardock the movie to also become live action. They were really awesome!!:D However they do have to PROMOTE the blasted movies, i mean gawd I know fifteen other DB/ DBZ fans and they are hardcore and never knew the movie was out to begin with until I told them. PROMOTE the movies!! Fans WILL go and see it-at least out of curiosity. Geez.
I am a huge dragon ball fan and this film went so far outside what i hold dear that i feel somehow less of a person for viewing it. Overall it seems that my perception of dragon ball will be irreversibly raped because of this. I hope that God prepares a special place in hell for any person involved in the making, production, or distrobution of such a vile film.

The movie was good, not great, but watchable. no one could ever recreate the passion felt by all fans from watching the original DB / DBZ / DBGT sagas, but i am glad that the legend lives on. i have watched every saga of Gokus life many times and am happy to see it play out all over again from a different point of view. No matter how far the story may get from the original ( within reason ) its still about my hero GOKU.

you know what i think made the movie underrated… the fact that it didnt even reach 1.5 hours… a lot of stuff was left undone…. only fans could know what and why that happened… they should have explained the characters more…. this made the movie so vague which made my uncle who didn’t watch dragonball go to sleep inside the movie house…. don’t get me wrong, i really love the movie, it’s like the starting point of the whole saga.. i just got disappointed that a lot of people (who didnt watch the movie) didnt understand the whole plot.

A Dragon Ball with a sequel?Make my day best,the first was one of the more watched movies in USA at the time,the cartoons was a big success in the world millions of stopped working or studing to watch Dragon Ball,the sequel,bring it on.
With Vegeta,with Freazer,with Cell,with Son Goku`s sons,etc,etc…
The story of the Dragon Ball does to make 3 to 5 movies with a very big success.

No offense to Dragonball fans, but Dragonball Evolution movie was a terrible film. There was not much story to the film (just like the god awful Streetfighter film with Jean-Claude Van Damme). Besides the story, I did not like how Goku is played by a white actor (I’m not saying I would’ve like the movie better with an asian actor), it just takes away from the believablity of the asian culture of the Dragonball cartoon. I realize Goku is an alien, but still, he has an asian name and in the Dragonball Evolution movie, most of the supporting cast members are asian, why in the world is Goku white???? I just don’t get it!! If Goku is played by a white actor, why didn’t hollywood make most of the supporting cast members white?? I’m not asian by the way, but I have some asian friends, they feel offended, and some of my white friends are offended because the white actor who plays Goku makes them look bad.
And if it’s about the money (for Goku), the film made 56 mil worldwide, and the film budget was estimated at 100-120 mil. What are they going to do to make up for the loss, get their money back from DVD and Blu-Ray sales?
Cool Guy, the budget was confirmed to be close to 40 million, not 100-120. So simply put, they made a profit of at least 16 million (not counting future DVD/Blu-Ray sales) so making a sequel is logical.
the next movie is the world tournament which will have new piccollo krillin and tien no chiatzu piccolo and tien are going to be evil allies and goku krillin and yamcha have to save the day there isn’t going to be anything from dragonball z they only have the rights to dragonball and there just merging stuff together making it rubbish
Nahh, you’re right, the budget was confirmed to be 40 - 45 million, but that’s what 20th Century Fox want us to believe, but in reality, it was probably a lot more than that (for marketing reasons). When Disney’s Dinosaur movie came out, they gave a 100 - 130 million budget of the film, but truth is it was more like around 400 million or more. I’ve heard they had to hire their own programmers and new animators to make the realistic 3D animation programs and it took them years to produce since it was Disney’s first attempt to create a very realistic 3D animated movie (Dinosaur movie wasn’t done by Pixar). The film only made about 350 million. It was basically a rip off of Don Bluth’s The Land Before Time.
I hated Dragonball Evolution movie (so much so I walked out of the theater). First of all, it was way under budgeted, (it was originally supposed to be around 100 million dollars) and the story was so predictable and boring (mostly because of the weak script writing). The DB movie didn’t remind me of the DB cartoons at all, there was a missed cast (Justin Chatwin as Goku, hmmm….?). The trailer looked entertaining I guess….but kind of corny. The actual movie was even worse. I’ve seen better adaptions of video games/comic books/tv cartoons turned into films like Resident Evil, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 version) and Blade. DB Evolution movie is so static and weak that it reminds me of the lame Batman and Robin (with George Clooney) movie which killed the Batman franchise in the late 90’s. Why will there be a sequel? DB Evolution barely made any profit.
