Fox is Planning a “Weaver” Origin Spin-off
This was a surprising bit of news I received from a Fox representative. Apparently, Fox is so sure the first movie will be successful that they’re already planning a Weaver (Luis Arretia) television spin-off.
“The anime was pretty good, but it wasn’t great. Weaver, a new character made by our marketing team, is a different kind of super hero. When we set out to create this new character, we made it our top priority to make a character that we felt everyone would be able to relate to, and we think we’ve been very successful in that regard.”
“He’s a nerd, but he also has super strength. He’s not good with the ladies, but that all changes when he’s bitten by a radioactive dragon. I don’t want to give anything away, but he plays a huge part in the first movie, and maybe in the sequels as well. The first movie ends with a huge cliffhanger, but it’s a surprise that the fans will have to wait for, and we don’t think they’ll be disappointed. Oh, hell, I’ll tell you: Weaver is Goku’s father.”
“Dragonball Origins: Weaver,” airs on the Fox television network May 4th, 2009. Fox also hinted at further projects with other movie-made characters.

lol I keep forgetting it’s arpil fools tomorrow (well today for some.) That was pretty good… the whole “Radioactive dragon” got me thinking… crap.
Some of it may be true though, about the super strength and having a bigger role later on. I still think he will turn out to be the krillin type figure.

I totally disagree with that term, because we all know Dragonball and Dragonball Z is better then great, it’s amazing!!!! It tells a story for all people of all ages to relate to. No cartoon ever thought about making there characters grow up with such an amazing story. Anyways, Im so happy to see this happen if it’s done right! Dragonball is my favorite show

The part that kind of broke my heart was the Radioactive dragon…. That just made all the tears in my eye’s come down.
Tonight I will sit by my bed and watch seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Dragonball Z and make sure Krillin didn’t get bit by the Dragon. The only person I remember that bit Krillin was Yajirobe.
Ouch!!!! For some reason my stomach hurts. Please tell me this is not true Adam! I never knew the Dragon was radioactive…. Whoaaa this is starting to sound like the amazing spiderman. Now my stomach really hurts!

Its obviously a joke, c’mon. First of all a studio has NEVER in the history of film invested in a tv show before the actual movie has come out. You have to c if there is a mkt exists first or else you’re just being stupid. And second of all, Weaver is supposed to b Goku’s age. How the hell is a supposed to father a child who is the same age as his son, that doesn’t make sense. Thirdly, even if this was true, this would catagorized as confidential information and would only be released to the public after the info is made public. A fox rep would be fired on the spot if he was caught leeking info to a website not associated with the press or trade magazine. So there u go, its fake.

*never really liked it* I don’t normally watch tv anyways. But that would get me watching. Dragonball: Origins sounds like something that would be used to set up the story of the Namekian saga. Explaining how the saiyans lived and died.

That right there could cause the film to tank even if everything else turns out awesome. They don’t seem to know how “territorial” anime fans are.
Hell, cartoon fans in general. I’d like to see them try and “make up” a new thundercat or something. I’m already a little worried they’re going to turn dragonball into some high school drama. I hope for their sake they don’t try and make up a new character. They’re already on thin ice as it is.
I’m sorry but it’s really hard for me to see Emmy as Bulma.
I’m already going to have a hard enough time dealing with the fact that we won’t see Vegeta AND Sean won’t be Goku.
I know it would be a long shot for him to be Goku in the movie anyway but in my mind, he’s as close as it get’s to the real thing.
