I dont think thats a pic of Chi-Chi in character, I mean look at all the other pics it shows, everyone is in what looks like a scene fromt he movie, and the one with Jamie Chung just looks like some kind of picture for something else. Goku will be different from the anime. In the manga and i might be wrong im ptretty sure goku transforms into an ape when he sees the moon steps on grandpa gohan and thats how he dies…but in this movie grandpa gohan dies by the hands of piccilo or his henchmen. Goku is willbe a little more depressed and driven by revenge in the movie rather than the happy go lucky goku that we love from dbz

Why? I don’t understand at all. A different interpretation usually keeps some of the original styles. Like. Roshi should be bald…Or at least no hair color..or at least glasses..or at least pervy…or at least bearded… So far he has none of these things. Also, the Goku shots I think look fantastic actually, same with Bulma. Chi-Chi..could be wearing a little mroe traditional clothing..but otherwise good. And as for Yamcha…Well…They could have pulled a better pic where his hair didn’t look blonde. And I think his hair uh shouldn’t be…slicked back maybe? Yamcha’s hair was messy, not slick. They could have pulled of messy/realistic quite easily. And well..I guess everything else is okay..but Chi-Chi’s pic reminds me of a senior shot. lol

Chatwin’s hair looks right on; although i wish we saw pics in the orange gi

Emmy looks like bulma to me, i guess wigs or teal dye was not in the works. Nevertheless she looks cool.

Chi Chi can wear whatever, i think Jamie will play the role just fine.

YAMCHA, i KNNOOWW he doesn’t have highlights in the manga but i think it looks good. I think they going for the HUNK look, yamcha is a ladies man yadda yadda-satisified with the look.

Master Roshi, i LOVE the clothes; Hawaiian style is Roshi alllll the wayyy. Doesn’t bug me that he we’re not seeing red sunglasses and a bald head.

So far I’m very satisified with the portrayal of these characters, I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE PICCOLO!!!!!!! Marsters face is very skinn with masculine traits, things i would like to see in King Piccolo/Piccolo. This site is blowing up now WAIT TILL a real picture of Piccolo surfaces.:mrgreen:

For people complaining about Joon Park, please realise that they are trying to modernize this. He looks like he would be a part of Hell’s Angles possibly, and he could definatly pass for a desert bandit.
Also, watch the video of the interview he did, he was exactly like the Yamcha we know in the show, down to the laugh.

My god people you want them to walk around in their fighting Gi’s the entire film, or have Bulma wear Lime green or bright blue hair?? Could the fighting please stop. If you want to do that, use instant messaging, email or go to imdb, you’ll find plenty of that over there. Please show respect to your fellow poster. Disagreeing is one thing, mud slinging is quite another.

Back to the pics - my guess with Roshi is that they’re going for looks-somewhat-cool-turns-out-to-be-an-uber-eccentric, which is also my hope. I wasn’t happy with the Roshi casting, and am still not…I actually thing they went with star power for star power’s sake. As long as his personality is twisted enough, I’ll eventually be satisfied.

All in all the cast are looking good in their roles, especially Chatwin and Rossum. I have faith in Chatwin, Rossum, like Chow Yan Fat, will have to prove herself. She looks amazing, very beautiful, but Bulma was always more than a pretty face, she was also a haughty know it all, egotistical and unapologetic opportunist (all great reasons to love the girl!). Emmy Rossum comes off as such an angel, I hope she can bring forth the bitch from within to bring life to Bulma.

Cool, I didn’t like Yamcha because of the blonde hair, but I guess it should be fine (he changed his hair a lot even in the anime) but Master Roshi with hair?? I think he looked better in “The Magic Begins” but overall, I’m happy with it, thanks for the pics!

It’s good to see that Justin got enough hairgel to get the right ‘Goku’ hairdo (damn that must have been hard to do!).

I like all of the actor choices except for Chow Yun Fat. Not because he’s a bad actor, I actually think he’s the best one there, but because he doesn’t look old enough. I don’t think he can pull off the perverted hermit and he needs to shave his head .

This is going to be terrible. I don’t have to see the movie. The story has been raped and pillaged. The characters look like they came from a retarded version of Dawsons Creek. DB has been destroyed. I was praying that i’d soon one day become a director/producer/screenwriter whatever so I could put this thing together my damn self, because what has transpired since they gave this movie a greenlight has been nothing but disappointment for real DB fans. I’ve been watching and studying the series, since before the majority of you knew who the hell Trunks was. Before they continued off of “Enter Goku” here in the US, I had allready seen all of Z and started on GT. Yes I’m a DB purist, I only watch it in Japanese with subs, only because thats how I originally started watching the series. The only time I enjoyed Z was before they ruined everything and hired the shitty new English voice actors that all sound like theyre constipated.
This movie will tank, and if it doesn’t tank, It’ll be what Ang Lee was to The Incredible Hulk. And we’ll have the pray whoever gets the rights to film a movie based on Z, will get it right. Personally I nominate the team that did Spider Man 3, because even though they didn’t stick to the comic completely, they kept it close, and the characters were near flawless likenesses of their animated selves.

People should see the beauty of those pic and stop complaining… They’re really good… GOKU is the best, his transition from Anime to human-character is pretty convincing….

All the others are good, maybe except for Chow… they must add at least some BEARDS… In Master Roshi (wich here we call Master Kame)

All in All if done seriously and with good interpretetion and Convincing and astonishing effects… We’ll have an Impressive Movie… and fights even better than the final Matrix Revolutions duel…

I’m going to say something that may get me shot by some of you but honestly…I like that they’ve mixed things up. Granted, I don’t want them to totally stray away from the source material, but it is kind of cool to see a new interpretation. This is a movie BASED on Dragonball, it isn’t DRAGONBALL ITSELF. It seems like a lot of people have already made up their minds about whether or not this movie is going to tank. Who knows? It may be a steaming pile of crap in the end, but there is also the chance that it could be good. I’m just excited that someone is at least taking a serious shot at making a movie (even though Fox could stand to loosen up a bit). Folks, I ate, slept, and breathed Dragonball/Z/GT for a period of my life, just like many of you. I don’t think they’ve committed any kind of cardinal sin here. Enjoy the movie for what it is. We’ll all bring the gavel down on opening night.

These photos are great, my excitement is increasing.

I’ve been checking other sites like Movieweb for any new info and I found on Wikipedia that Ernie Hudson is playing an acolyte in a temple who helps Goku and them. I can’t help but wonder, could his character be a Kami in disguise? He did takeover the body of another fighter so he could defeat Piccolo(granted it was the Piccolo we all know and love when he was still a badguy and not King Piccolo). If so that would be a nice way to include that part of the show into the movie and bring Kami into this version of the Dragonball universe. It also said James Marsters was signed on for two sequels, so if King Piccolo is killed(I don’t see why not) then he would have to play the new Piccolo and if they introduced Kami, they would be able to show how the two are opposed to eachother. Also, if the sequel introduces the Saiyans as the badguys and Goku is killed, they could do like the anime and have Kami lead him to Snake Way if they also wanted to introduce King Kai. This all just speculation, so we’ll have to see the movie to find out.

Super_Sayajin_bob - Stephen Chow and James Wong are Def. not japanese they are both Chinese. Do a bit more research before making such statements.

My opinion goes with king vegita, the Goku part should have gone to a japanese actor or someone with asian decent. but again it is an americanized film so go figure.

Also someone who stated that the name GOKU doesn’t have to be asian needs to get his head checked. Last time I checked it sounded pretty asian to me. If my name was BOB does that sound asian to you?

Either way, I will hold judgement till actual trailers come out and see how it is. So far i’m not impressed with the casts.

Matthew: If the casts and story was compelling and well written it woudln’t bomb. The Dragonball fan base is pretty huge in the United States. The problem that people have stated is that the main character or lead role is a caucasian. Not even a mixed caucasian, but a canadian. That’s like telling an asian to play the role of a black man named Tyron. It doesn’t make any sense or would be believable.

Bob and Wilson: I understand what your both saying and in someways I do agree with you in that race should not play an important part and your absolteuly right when you say if the right actor is able to convey and potray faithfully the character then race shouldn’t be a factor.

BUT, we all have our opinions and we all disgaree on certain things. For me personally I still can’t picture chatwin as Goku. Not saying he might not pull it off but I just can’t picture him. We all have our image of what certain things are or represents. My ideal of a perfect woman might be different from those of yours.

Ok all you clowns need to shut it. Think about DB, Z, and such. Which characters look BLATENTLY Asian? Yajirobe, Androids 17 and 18, and a handful of others. Honestly the cast being white, black, asian, himalayian, shouldn’t matter. The real problem with this film is their modernizing it. Gokou in school, driving Mitsubishi Lancers, wearing clothes from Macy’s…thats whats ruining this film and the Dragonball image. They should have sticked to the facts. Wrote this right. Started on Z. Or used DB as a prologue to a soon to come DBZ Trilogy, that would be understandable, but I can see the direction this film is taking and it’s upsetting me to know how long we’ve all been waiting for a DB live action film and they’re ruining it. The casting selections are perfect, but the way the characters are being portrayed is all wrong, and it’s going to negatively effect the franchise.

hmm… very interesting.
The comments here are much different from those in Japanese sites.
Good to know that some people still have faith in this movie because basically no one in Japan does.

I think the people looks (races) shouldn’t matter much since they are all professional actors and should be capable of acting their role.

Slump, you’re a genius. Anyways, yeah, my only problem is them taking away from the true story of DB. I mean honestly, theres no reason not to. Why take a good thing and try to change it and make it something else. What audience are they aiming to please with this film? Obviously not the die-hard fan base. I’m 22. I first started watching DBZ in 6th grade. I believe it was ‘96 or ‘97. The first thing I watched was the Dead Zone, dubbed, loved it. Then I caught a few episodes every weekend while DBZ was broadcast Sat mornings on the WB network. I then borrowed tapes of Subtitled fan-dubbed episodes from groups such as Anime Labs. and others from my friends. First time I witnessed Goku’s black hair become golden blonde was that 3rd of 4th episode of GT. I then watched Trunks manhandle Freeza and King Cold and I was hooked. I soon after bought multiple sets of episodes that were important pieces of the series and Dragonball has been a large part of my life and something I enjoy as much as my older brother (born in 79) enjoys Transformers, and Masters of the Universe. Whats happened to this series since FUNimation got a hold of it is terrible. This shit thats happening with this movie is taking away from the series more than FUNimation did. I’m officially BOYCOTTING!

Neko Majin T, trust me, I have much more feelings for Dragonball than you do.
I’m 29, and started watching (reading) Dragonball since I was 9. Way before it started to air in the US.
And it does make me pissed to see FOX or any other film makers trying to use the name just to sell movies.
But, I will not interpret it as Dragonball.
They may have the same names for the characters and say Kamehameha, but it is clearly not Dragonball.
I don’t think anyone will be able to make a true Dragonball movie.

Therefore, I’m just gonna sit back and see if it’s gonna be a movie worth watching or not.
If it sucks, nobody will watch it and will be forgotten before you know it.

*sighs* those who had hope for humanity should not read these posts. There are some truly idiotic and single minded individuals out there. If you were fans you would understand that this is an adaptation. If you were fans you would have read on here that the same negative comments and bull crap arguments have been raised already. Not every person can be pleased. It’s a movie for the masses. The movies for the fan boys are online or in DVDs. Make your own movie and shut everyone up that way. Don’t come here and vent and then be surprised that people disagree with you. We all have opinions, but seeing how the movie is finished shooting…then all you have is an opinion. (This isnt a democracy) When the movie is released (and if you didn’t switch sides because of the trailer) save your $7.50 and buy the latest manga and a blow pop and go about your day. Don’t ruin the excitement and anticipation for everyone else. I myself am still holding out judgment for this movie, I want it to be good but I understand the real possibility of it failing.

does nappa look asian to anybody? i mean, cause hes a saiyan too so if he shows up in a sequel is he suppose to be asian too? and if hes not are all these same people that are crying about the alien named kakarot who was given an asian name by an asian man who found him when he landed on this planet, are these people gonna be crying about nappa not being played by the biggest, baldest, buffest asian they could find? a french guy could have found kakarot and named him pierre or a german guy could have found him and named him hans.. who cares! he would still be an alien from another planet. until Toriyama himself comes out and says, “the saiyan characters that I created are meant to have the physical traits and characteristics of people of asian descent” (and i dont recall this ever happening yet) then just shut up already, Chatwin is goku, and a damn good one at that, hes got the big eyes, the goku hair and that innocent boyish look to him. i like coming to this site to read comments from guys like, the man: coreywilson, sean, josh1122, nanjirou, ssj spartan, funhell, just to name a few all stars and theres more, but some of the ignorance on here is just annoying. i wont let it ruin or take away from this movie or this site though, just gotta deal with it i guess. It did me….so goku was a hero and had a perfect heart and defended the weak

but he layed back, had fun, carefree, naive at commors sense stuff, even when hes older. its hard to describe wut made goku goku. He grew up in a foreest with one man, s is personality wasnt scarred by society, he was just goku

hes not just a stereotypical hero like luke, and i wuldnt say hes a reincarnation at all, the pics look great it just seems like chatwin knows little about gokus personality, if gokus just a bland hero in the film ill be upset

Maybe its just because I grew up with those charcters, or I’ve become extremely hard to please as time came by… but in my humble opinion, the actors don’t fit .
There was no big deal in shaving Master Roshi’s head, or adding a frickin’ beard (CGI will correct that, maybe…?), and Yamcha… well, I’ll be damned, but that guy looks as much as Yamcha as he looks like Brad Pitt.
Bulma looks descent, and Chichi is not a big deal… but man, that… that little kid is going to play my childhood hero? That… that… uf, I can’t–it’s just too hard for me to even try to express my desdain. He better blows our socks off with perfect acting, or I kick his ass.
Probably it’s because Dragon Ball was an amazing hit here in south america, and in north america it was kinda like “meh” (Or so I’ve heard, excuse me if I’m wrong!), but I’m not alone in my, er, “dissapointment” towards this film. I just try to downplay it.

I have been looking up on this site for quite a while now and i have’nt posted any comments but right now i would like to voice my opinion about Justin Chatwin thus far.It seems the casting team have done a great job at transitioning real life to their anime counterparts.They all seem to have the same facial structure particularly Goku.That is the closest your going to get to a real life Goku and i really think he pulls off that innocent misinformed Goku form the series.His face looks completely lost, just how Goku looks but we need to see the cheerful side of him as well.I compared
Movie Goku to The manga Goku and it looks pretty convincing.The hair was never going to look good on the big screen anyway so i don’t really think it matters so long as it still looks like its standing up on its own without gel it’s fine.I can’t help but think that it will be like the modern day Karate kid, which is a good thing.I remember watching Karate kid and there were some good feelings had while watching this innocent shy kid grw into a confident fighter and a really good one at that too.I’ve got a feeling when Goku meets Roshi and trains with him it will be much like Mr Miyagi and Daniel Son.The Climax will be fn awesome.I hope it is like Karate kid mixed with the same feeling of the arrival of the transformers and with Bryan Tyler on board i’ve got a good feeling this movie will be epic and we’ll feel those goosebumps when Goku stands up to those bullies in the high school and then learns his abilities to use ki and that sense that he’s a good guy who cares for everyone and is this strong warrior who is unaware and later finds out that he’s form another planet will keep audiences ont he edge of thir seats.Goku is one of a kind character who has traits of all the best role models that kids look up to and what older poeple want to be like.Superman was never a father Goku was.Goku manages to have a family as well as be the hero and saviour of the world.He shoots blasts like Ryu he flies like Superman He can fight faster and quicker than Bruce lee he’s got a better hairdo than wolverine lol.Guys and Gals this is the ultimate comic book or cartoon (or in this case Manga or Anime) character and this movie is going to Rock th Dragon come nexy year.The movie thus far has everything i’m loking for even though it dose’nt pay full homaget to its predecessor it has all the elements in movie magic and what makes a movie good.It’s got Comedy,All out Matrix style fighting,Romance,Cgi effects and entertaing ki blasts,flying,Sci fi,Drama and Action packed scenes even Peter Parker bullying style scenes and with sayng that i severely doubt this movie will bomb.They filmed in a beautiful location in Durango I think the scenes will be breathtaking.Better than Indina Jones,Better than Transformers,X Men SPider man Super man all that Super hero crap Trust me not even the new Hlk has anything in the ultimate movie untilt he sequel.

Wow so many people arguing and arguing. Personally, I think Chatwin looks great as Goku. Looks very spot on. In fact, all of them look like the characters from the anime -except Yamcha’s hair-. Also, no one can say wether this movie is gonna be terrible or amazing at this point. We haven’t even recieved a trailer yet. Also, just look at the movie Transformers. A lot of people said that movie was gonna suck, and it was a fuckin awesome movie. I think history will repeat itself. Can’t wait till this comes out.

I already see two stupid things in the scans, that are actually bothering me a bit. First, since when Yamcha is blond? is he a super saiyan ? its pretty stupid. another one is Kame Senin is bold, with glasses and beard, although chow is totally opposite here, with hair, no glasses, no beard. The only excuse i can see if this is during budokai, when kame was redressed, although it doesn’t look like. Still all characters look pretty good, actually very good if you don’t count these glitches. For me the best is Bulma, she actually looks very pretty. Still, i hope that in the movie she wont look too pretty, because Bulma was bitchy.

Randall Dukim is coming out in kung fu panda. their making him a wise turtle in the movie. hes gonna fit Grandpa Gohan perfectly. The movie comes out june 12 i think. As for the whole thing about master roshi not looking like his anime counter part, i believe there going to show grandpa gohan as an old man in this movie. Before he dies hes going to tell goku that a man by the name of muten roshi trained him in martial arts. Goku will expect a man much older than his grandfather and come across a man in his mid 60’s. Thats just what i think there planning on doing.
