Ernie Hudson’s Role Revealed?
Qwailo from DBMB posted some interesting information that apparently came straight from Ernie Hudson at Lodon Expo 2008. Qwailo asked which character he would be playing in the movie and Ernie replied with the following.
“I play a monk, who is Chow Yun Fat’s character’s master and he creates the jar that is used to contain/trap piccolo”.
The description sounds like Master Mutaito, though with the name changed possibly.

Sounds like he is Kami, Popo and Roshi’s master mixed into a single character….at least that’s the impression I’m getting by this bit combined with the pictures we’ve seen in the past.

Anyway, we knew he wasn’t Kami since those leaked pics first arrived months ago. We knew he was a monk, just not who he is exactly.
I believe Kami will be in the movie, Martsers could be playing him for all we know.

True. I just thought of a way that Fox might be planning that.
Maybe after this piccolo is defeated, THEN instead of spitting out an egg, he splits into piccolo jr as the evil side, and kami for good. The 2nd movie is a twist as piccolo jr joins goku to fight the saiyans. This is personally the only way I see that they can do it (unless they casted Kami and we don’t know about it.)
Roshi’s master… last person I expected, but very happy seeing as they ARE sticking closer to the story than we thought.

What i think is that dragonball movie will not include god system that was in the anime, which is actually very bad and a huge mistake. For me a lifelong dragonball fan such details are important. For example Master Roshi as you call him, was weakest of all gokus masters, but here he will train goku, while goku was actually trained by kami to defeat piccolo, which i don’t know in english version, but in japanese was earths god. I know that its a live action movie and not all details might be included, but these one of the most important and are skipped. That is what actually might make movie pain to watch. What i fear the most is that there will be too many characters in the movie, that didn’t exist in the real story or had only a cameo. I see james point and agree with him, because this is the only possible way that might save the story. Nevertheless transformers was a superior movie, although a lot of things didn’t match, so lets hope that Dragonball will be like it.

i have been saying this ever since i started posting comments on the site…on my old user name dbfan1188. There is a damn good reason why Hudsons character is being kept secret…very rarely do we NOT know who an actor is playing in a movie…i think he is kami and its being kept a secret…what else why is his character not being revealed..i think this is too big of a thing and if hudson were playing…however kami didnt train roshi..idk im all confused someone help….if they got rid of alot of characters why not get rid of kami…after all he is connected to piccilo and that might be why they eliminated his character…i think the monks are replacing kami and popo…after all was there ever a dragon temple in a cave in the anime or the cartoon…please someone help me rationalize this

…the lookout was just too difficult to have in the movie..this is whats on my mind tho…if there is no Kami then who created the dragonballs? wa it piccilo? or the acolytes from the temple? if the dragonballs were created by earthlings in the movie…then there is no kami…and perhaps no namek in the second movies…maybe piccilo is just a demon

What i have to say is: there better be kami, becuz there is piccolo. they have been pretty faithful to the manga/anime lately with all the good news, on the way it sounds. soooo why not put kami in there, as we all kno kami is piccolo, and piccolo is kami and blah blah. so i dont see a reason why, but then they did take out krillin so u never kno yall. hope im makin sense…

makes sense to me the history of kami is one of the more interesting stories in DB. Namekian who comes to earth seperates from his evil side and becomes the guardian of earth…and he created the earths dragon i love kami i think it would suck to not have him but i dont think he will be in the movie

FinAlly, we know what his role is; I thought that he was some sort of monk because of the pictures that were posted of him holding a book but i wasn’t sure if it was Popo or not, i guess it’s not.
As far as Kami being in the movie I think it is important to have him included in the storyline because without him the Dragonballs wouldn’t be on Earth nor would Piccolo even exist! For these reasons alone I think the existence of Kami in DB is important and although Kami’s role isn’t as important in DBZ as DB he should still be there nevertheless- remember, ESF used Kami’s lookout to train for the arrival of Vegeta and Nappa, also Goku arrived on Earth after training with King Kai AT KAMI’S LOOKOUT…
anyways…..i discovered this site on accident and i LOVE IT, i visit it everyday.

@heason: The reason people are flipping out over the lookout is because there’s been no leaked pics that resemble the lookout.
Uhh, it will be done in Visual Effects guys.
Like they’re going to build something like that in the sky, I don’t even think that’s possible
The basic look of the lookout could have been in one of the macrosets built awhile back, that’s what I believe anyway.

I always thought that it was this picture that would be the set of the lookout… if there even was one. (had to use imageshack since the gallary is down atm adam. Not sure if you have this one still, old filming location pictures)

Hey adam, about the poster that was mentioned, are we sure that it’s fake? The translation just says that it might be. Unless something got confirmed somewhere… It seems legit to me. The facial structure of picollo comes close to marsters. Also the eclipse behind the head fits to what we know. The only thing that does look fake is the title format. Even if it’s fan-made, they really went all out.

i didnt think they would build a set in the sky…….my point was if they cant fly the lookout would be difficult to pull off..but i dont think the lookouts not in the movie because i havnt seen pics of it..i just think theres not enough time in the movie for the characters to go to the lookout and also i dont think Kami is in the movie..i really ope im not right becuase i think its stupid to leave kami out but i have little hope for kami..

Hey i have an idea, in the upcoming movie Dragonball the origin of the dragonballs should be accredited to the Namekian Kami.
They should make a lookout where the Namekian Kami stays along with his assistant Mr.Popo, who should replace Korin. This location should be in the sky.
As for the origin of King Piccolo, he should exist as a product of Kami reaching form of enlighenment.

This makes perfect sense. He did say his role was very minor. I mean most likely they will see a flashback of him and roshi doin their thing to piccolo. But i dun remember whether that dude died in the series… umm but they’ve changed a few things in this movie already, i dun see why they wouldnt go lookin for him for his some advice on how to deal with piccolo.
Oh well, guess we’ll just have wait til to the movie comes for us to be really sure.

Yeah, Mutaito dies in the series (Just like anybody who uses the Mafuba), but you’re right, there’s no reason why Goku can’t seek him out for advice.

Perhaps his character knows how to use the Mafuba, but hasn’t ACTUALLY used it. Actually, it doesn’t even say he knows how to use the Mafuba technique, just that he created the jar.

Actually, the casting side stated that Piccolo was evil, and not necessarily all Nameks. The wording was weird, so it could go either way. But I think the sides were talking about Piccolo’s children vs the actual Namekians.

That pic of Ernie Hudson taken awhile back caught my attention after reading this. Remember after Krillin was found dead there was a piece of paper with King Piccolo’s symbol on it.
