Leaked Script?

I’ve received a supposed screenplay draft written by Ben Ramsey (remember him?) from a member on IMDB, and made it public here. Be advised that if real, it contains spoilers. I just finished reading it, and it seems pretty legit for an early draft.

Jenova Anime also posted a page of the James Wong script that was apparently left by crew members in a restaurant. Perhaps the scene was rewritten or thrown out, but as you can see it looks real, and contains the “Ma Fu Ba,” a sign that Wong is sticking close to the source material.

If this script is real, it is one of the coolest leaked scripts I have probably ever read. If the movie goes along these lines, it is going to be extremely popular and make way over its budget back. Definately in Japan alone, and America, well, its Dragonball.

James did re-do the script. Pilaf is cut.

But from reading the script (which was pretty good), I think Piccolo will essentially be plugged into Pilaf’s lines, with Mai still being the underling, and all the animal-hybrids cut.

Then, at the end of the film, instead of Piccolo being ressurrected, the older piccolo can wish for eternal youth.

From the little excerpt we got of the new script though, there is a lot added to the story. I’m definately excited for the movie though.

Oh my gosh! I loved the script! I hope this is real because for an early draft this seems really good. Yamcha’s opening line to Goku and Bulma made me laugh so hard. However, I thought the beginning was a little “meh” and Pilaf’s description dissapointed me. It’s all good though because Krillen made an appearance! Wooooo-hoooo!

I haven’t had the chance to read the entire early draft written by Ben Ramsey but a lot of it is just pure garbage in my opinion. (I’m really glad James Wong re-wrote this god awful piece of writing). One part that really bothered me was that the “Dragonball” mythology was part of a Card game/Video game franchise in this first draft of the script. The fact that Goku and Bulma have a romantic relationship bothered me to. A lot of the dialogue was horribly written. I also noticed how Ben Ramsey tried including every single character from the Dragonball series and how that did not really work. Again I’m glad that James Wong cut out a good amount of characters including Puar and Oolong.

I yust finished reding the whole script.I didnt like it.I consider it horible .Gokus character isn’t portraid right in this script.He isnt the pure hearted and loving goku we all knew but a teen that wants to fit with the rest of the world and feels his granpa ohan is holding him back.He disobeis his granfather and runs to this girls party instead of staying to the birthday party he’a granpa made for him.He doesn’t have his inosence becase he keeps looking at girls all the time(although he is cind of clumsy).altough there are some nice moments with master roshi(his character is okay) Bulma and Yamcha.But This schript as a DRAGONBALL movie is a complete fail…I stil have hope in the movie though because i thing Wong and Chow changed the whole script or the most of it to fit the original anime/manga atmosphere and made the characters as they shoold be(goku kindhaerted and pure)

I read the script and I don’t like some things about it. Mainly, that they introduce Krillin, but don’t have him in any other scene. I loved the dialogue of Bulma. Not so much that of the others.

Goku is portrayed as an emo kid, which a total mistake.

Wowwwwwwwwwwww!!!! Im reading the script right now. I don’t know, but for some reason it’s giving me this feeling of excitement.

I’ve got goosebumps right now even though it maybe fan made. I like how the writer is keeping it comical like the manga!! When im done reading it, I’ll give my full opinion. I really hope the writer doesn’t mess it up!! It’s going good so far.

Fan made or not, it will be an interesting read. (meaning I haven’t gotten far into it, just the first 12 pages, reading now) So far, it seems to me that the original plan was to have it go the route of the movie “Galaxy Quest” where it was a show, but suddenly the actors of fantasy discover that it is real somewhere. The whole mythology of dragonball and the past history is an interesting take, and I personally think perfect for “Modern teen” audiences. However, it fully feels like something Fox would do.

Hopefully Wong did change many things, but at least as I said, it passes the time. Actually re-reading the original manga series and trying to find a comparison between the storyline and the movie… might type a pparagraph up on it. On volume 4 atm and forgot how great it was.

Don’t worry. I’m sure James Wong and Stephen Chow made drastic improvements to the script(if it is real). In fact, the main reason I liked it is because I had the feeling I was reading a rough draft the whole time and that it should already be heavily edited as of now. I’m assured to know it’s in the good hands of two experienced directors/ Dragonball fans. Also, remember that there was supposed to be a Tenkaichi Budoukai Tournament in the movie. I haven’t read anything on that in the script. Hopefully the revised version doesn’t have Pilaf in it, has Goku more like the anime/manga, and has more action in it.

Wow I read some of it…had to stop. I just couldn’t take the crappiness. I skipped to the end though and lol’d about Pilaf being a Namek. So this is from Ben Ramsey, the guy who’s making that Luke Cage movie.? Well, I wonder if that movie will turn out decent.

I’m worried though, besides the casting and all, but did Wong revise the script or totally rewrite the whole thing? The other thing that worries me is that Wong did the script in the first place. I saw some of his other movies like Final Destination 3 and uhh…well, it’s impossible for me to think positively about anything that comes from his mind after I watched that movie. Although I will say this, I laughed my head off the whole time whether the humor was intentional or not, I don’t know. Anyway, I’d be interested in reading the actual script to see how James Wong interpreted it for a 100 minute movie. It is officially a 100 minute movie, right

This definatly is a fake, or a rough draft. I just finished the desert scene and after meeting master roshi (the money line was pretty good…) Anyway, Rossum wrote on her blog that they filmed a scene in the desert and had chow yun fat and Chatwin there with her for the scene. We also know that the three get trapped in a cave and THEN meet Yamcha. So obviously things are changed around from that moment.
Everything about the eclipse seems to be legit though since the classroom picture got leaked.

The movie can go either way from this point. We REALLY need a trailer.

MY Review: 8/10

I don’t ever, ever, ever, ever read scripts, but I have to admit this script kept me staying tuned. I actually read the whole thing!! This is the best script I read since the Matrix…. Reading Ben Ramsey script felt like watching the original Dragonball. I loved the friendship between Goku and Bulma. Everthing about this script was captured well. I was soooo excited when Piccolo arrived. The action was captured well for a script!! The only thing that bothered the sh*t out of me was the Namek-jins, the Gameboard, and Pilaf. I really hope James Wong change that, because that is just stupid having Namek and Saiyans on the same planet. Other then that the script was excellent. 8/10

I like the direction that James Wong and company are going for. What I don’t like is this script by Ben Ramsey. If you found that in the least bit similar to the manga then its quite possible that we have been seeing/reading different anime/manga’s. Again I’m only stating my opinion on this script which I found was horribly written and doesn’t really capture the feel of Dragonball. That’s why I’m pretty glad that James Wong and Stephen Chow re-wrote the script into a much better (and hopefully smarter) film that is faithful to the manga/anime not only in name and characters but in the ambiance and the wonderful storytelling that doesn’t feel forced.

Read the script - wow, there sure have been a lot of edits going on the pictures and cast. Chichi seems to have a bigger role now and is a classmate (along with a best friend). I’m hoping her character has also been expanded to have more backbone. Bulma was GOLD and my fond hope is for her to not have too many edits.

The James Wong plot defiantly differs from the Ben Ramsey script. I still enjoyed reading it and Im going to read it again.

Fake or real it’s still a excellent job for a 1st draft. It took me a couple hours to read hopefully the movie will too. I like the PG13 rating it had!! You guys have to remember the more they work on the script the better it gets. So the final draft should be amazing.

Wow. That was probably the worst script i’ve ever read, with perhaps the exception of highlander 4’s screenplay ( don’t ask me why i read that ). Though, to Ben Ramsays credit ( I almost gag when i say his name out loud ) it sure wasn’t boring. This movie may give Battlefield Earth a run for it’s money as one of the worst/best films of all time. Naturally as a fan i was hoping this movie would be good. Sadly it’s not. It’s bad, it’s awful- i mean i’m in aw of it’s awfullness, but it’s so awful that i’m actually excited to see it. Here’s my plan: I’ll wait till it’s released on dvd, invite round all me best mates- popcorn, beers, the whole shindig, then laugh and cheer as i watch a part of my childhood go up in flames. Hurray for Ben RamsayybruaaaaaGH!! Dammit now there’s vomit all over my keyboard!.

I know this is just an early draft and a lot of changes have been made (eg Chi Chi and Piccolo having a bigger role) but I like how it kinda gives some idea on what we can expect from the live adaptation. I love Roshi, Bulma and Yamcha in this script (Goku…not really ). Yamcha and Bulma reminds me of Han Solo and Leia from Star Wars. It’s also full of humour too. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be

Yamcha and Bulma did remind me of Han solo and Leia, but I enjoyed reading Goku’s character the most in the story.

@Super_Sayajin_bob: Your right, but you have to remember he can’t be exactly like the show. This is the real world and people new to Dragonball is not going to understand him. We the Dragonball fans know what’s best for us, but you have to look at what’s best for everyone. Alot of people don’t understand Dragonball, but once they see the movie they will. I never understood Iron man comics until I saw the movie. I didn’t want to read the comics, because it confused me. The movie showed his orgin and made everything real as possible.

I dun like this script at all. Thats not the Goku I grew up with. I couldnt read it anyore, i stopped around the part with Bulma and Goku, those were alright. But everything else i read just wasnt good enough for me.
Thank God James Wong changed the script, lets just hope he did a better job than this. But the pic on the top is from Wong right? I actually like how that one begins, cuz it gives u the whole thing with Piccolo, and will eventually lead to a major battle comin ahead. And thats wat the audience want, am i right?!

The script it self is ok but for the actual Hollywood film
its not. I would rather have the dragonballs and piccolo all to be very mysterious rather than a myth come true. I would rather have the dumb clueless goku than the trying to fit in goku. corey obviously they need to change the charcter some, but this shouldnt be called a dragonball movie if goku means, id rather them name him zero but act like goku then name him goku and act like someone else

with a few changes the original goku would be easily accepted, its just insulting to treat a character this way, the autoir clearly is ignorant of dragonball

Listen this can’t be the script (i don’t think) because all the people working on the movie said that james marsters worked his ass of for the part and said if anyone worked half as hard as him the worked really really hard so after reading the script i just dont see where all the hard work is coming from i mean a blast here, a blast there, and a fight or two. I mean from what i read justin worked just as hard if not harder,but yeah that script was pretty awesome (with some cheesy parts) oh yeah and bulma is a potty mouth hahahahahaha!!!!!!

you also have to remember that the writers strike ended on feb 12. that revision was created on feb 13. If its real, I guess Wong was itching to change a great deal during the whole shoot.

the picture above is from the draft that was submitted before the strike started. based on the date, it seems that it was worked on for some time after the casting sides were released.

Some of ya say this movie is not going to be good, because of this script!!
You can have the best script in the world like “Man on the moon”, but that doesn’t mean the movie is going to be epic. By the way “Man on the moon” s*Cked Donkey booty. Or You can make a bad script into something good like Transformers. Personally if I was Fox and I had this script I would be pleased. The first thing I’ll do is hire a good director and writer that knows about Dragonball and Dbz. You read and you can feel it… the dialogues, the plot, some details that should not be in scripts (like saying that Mai is as beautiful as evil, I mean: ???????????). I can’t be 100 per cent sure, but I guess it is fake.

*cough* Thank God James Wong re-did it. I changed my mind on actually liking it. I was really turned off abouy Pilaf and the chemistry between Goku and Bulma. It would be cool if Yamcha did have a ‘normal’ cat that did still things from people with it’s ALL POWERFUL CUTENESS-

And yeah, Goku was a bit emo-ish. Emo’s ok, but not with a happy-go-ucky, fun loving persona like Goku. Sure, maybe he’s starting to see in school that he’s not popular, that he’s different- but that was ridiculous.

And for Goku, who made fun of my typo… Obliterated. There we go. I meant, obliterated. There- everyone’s happy.

I hope Wong and Chow tore this thing to shreds and changed a lot. The dialog is awful and horribly cliche of crappy, generic superhero movies, Goku’s character is disappointing, and the card games . . . need I say more? D: Also, Chi-Chi better have a larger role and a backbone in the rewrite. This Goku/Bulma stuff doesn’t fly with me. XD

Just got finished reading this and I am glad this isn’t the final draft. While it was an entertaining script (and they got Master Roshi perfectly), it just didn’t feel like Dragonball to me.

Thank god it isn’t the final draft (or should I say “Thank Kami”? umm… )

I think it’s excellent first Draft!! If I was Fox I would take the script and hire someone like James Wong to rewrite it so it can fit more with Db and Dbz. The script is very entertaining!! it’s just in the wrong direction that’s all. So I say keep it!!

The first idea always s*cks, but then it gets better and better as I work with it. James Wong proved to us that he had to change it so you really can’t say what if this came in the theaters. James WOng changed all of Ben Ramsey cheesy ideas, but kept the plot.

That is very fan written. Those saying fans would never take the time to do that…it’s been done many times, leaked and all to look real, it really only takes a week to pump out a partially convincing first draft, doing an outline would take the longest, and if done right, the actual script writing would only take a day(especially with poorly written dialogue as seen in this script).

It’s very obvious whoever wrote that had very little idea of what a script is supposed to look like. I’m not talking about storytelling wise but screenplay wise, no actual screenwriter would write a script like that or use half the things that are in the draft. It’s very fake, I must say it’s a well done fake, even though I wouldn’t call it “good” but for a quick fan made script it’s not as terrible as it could be.

I won’t be asshole and 100% declare it’s fan made and bet my life on it. But I’d bet money on it.

There were elements in the script I liked and not all the dialogue was terrible. So I got to give some thumbs up to whoever wrote this, I’m sure they’re proud of their work. They should be, I’ve seen much worse.

Which will be totally stupid considering this is based on the King Piccolo saga.

Well I think that this is a first draft by Ben Ramsey, and it was quite entertaining but very incorrect with Dragonball. I did like Bulma’s character but not the chemistry between Goku and Bulma. The scrpit also reminds me of Star Wars:IV-VI soooooo much. 1. Between the relationship with Grandpa Gohan and Goku (uncle Owen and Luke). 2. The death of Gohan to Lukes family. 3. The jealousy factor going on between Bulma, Goku, and Yamcha(Empire strikes back). 4. Piccolo/Pilaf telling going he is destined to serve the namekjins(”Luke join me and together we can rule the galaxy” -D.V.) I enjoyed the script about 55% of it…the other 45% I hope they adapt more into the manga’s.

well, first of all, real or not, all i know is that I refuse to make any judgements until an actual trailer and the movie released finally because even if this is a real first draft of the script, then it would mean it’s probably been rewritten about a million times already, so i’m sure the version myself and everyone here will see, in theatres, will be totally different than this version. Although, I do agree with some people on here about this script doing justice to master roshi, bulma and yamcha. Plus, i liked the idea of mai being a shape shifter and glad to hear thats not going to change for the movie. However, I thought, the emo goku was a bit much and seemed like a rip off of Peter Parker if you ask me. Plus, i agree with everyone here that dragon ball board game and video game, and cards were kind of fruity (thats putting it lightly). Especially the part where Goku navigates through Pilaf/Picollo’s fortress using the blue print of what he saw in the game. Boy, was that freakin stupid. However, for the most part, I found the story entertaining from what i read. Unfortunately, from reading this cheesy first draft, some definite changes will need to be addressed for this movie to be a hit. One Goku, has to be Goku, and not a rip off of Peter Parker, from Spider-Man. The love story with Chi-Chi and Goku needs to be redone to be more realistic like how Bulma and Yamcha’s was portrayed in this one. Plus, do away with the whole cards, board game, and video game thing because….well, its just gay. sorry, i can’t think of a better way of putting it. anyway, thats my thoughts.

One of the things I thought was hilariously bad was when he found his charred dead friends, and buried them in his back yard or something with the freaking trading cards. What the? Might want to let their families do the funeral Goku!
But those friends were so annoying I was happy they died! I mean, ‘let’s go to Goku’s and play Dragonball’ ????
Also I thought the Goku and Chi-Chi stuff was terrible. She had no personality, and they didn’t have enough scenes together to make it realistic.
I thought some of the Bulma, Roshi and Yamcha stuff was okay. And the random Krillin appearance. I’m happy to know it’s been heavily re-written!

For starters, they are completely ruining the original story. I didn’t see any mention of Goku’s tail, being found by Bulma when he was a kid. Meeting Master Roshi as a KID and going through all of the trials he went through as a KID… He fought King Piccolo as a KID dammit. Piccolo doesn’t die at the end, who is supposed to train Gohan while Goku’s supposed to be dead now? They’ve screwed up yet another story to make it more marketable.

It bothered me that everybody knew the dragonball legend and that it was a media franchise which is what made it Sh**. Goku dosen’t have any romantic interest in girls at that age(or at all) and the dragonball legend being a franchise ruined it. So did the fact that everybody knows the legend and Planet Namek and the demons. The movie was gonna suck dragonballs anyway Bcuz it didnt stay tru to the story lin, but dis is just a disgrace. I will say I read alittle and for a earlier draft its looking good. I do have to say is wow. I really like want I read. It dose seem like DB but make Goku a teen and not a kid. But I did go to the last page to see any thing about King Vegeta or Vegeta him self and I didn’t but then it was ” a earlier draft” So I can think that the new one might have some thing in it with Vegeta.

First of all: Let’s do the upcoming Dragonball movie a favor by taking this Ben Ramsy piece of s**t off this site.

I read the whole thing in one sitting, not because I liked it, but because I love the source material. This script CANNOT possibly be what they went into production with. James Wong, considering he’s not the best director (and maybe this is the movie he’s been waiting for. He loves shooting action/suspense and now he can do it with some substance) anyway, James Wong has to of changed this piece of crap. It strays so far from its source that it almost becomes something else entirely.

Why did oolong have to be a soul-sucking fiend. Wheres his castle were he brings the girls to become princesses?

From what I deduced, Pansy turned krillian into Master Roshi’s servant who watched over the Kame House while he was away.

He couldv’e at least made Roshi more of a pervert.

It seems Goku learned more from a ridiculous video game then from Gohan.

All of a sudden Bulma is a gunslinging acrobat whos not afraid of anything? Ben Pansy couldn’t be more creative, leave source story alone, and find more clever historys for the characters. Doctor Briefs being dead?!?! Unnecessary.

Seems like Pansy was rushing through this draft.

I can only pray Stephan Chow saw this draft, laughed, and fired Ben Ramsy.

But seriously. To many people will see this and be repelled by it. If you want Dragonball to be a trilogy please “obliterate” all traces of this and lets all forget it ever existed.

P.S. Ben Ramsy’s probably a terrible writer because he spends all of his time at Krispy Kream and Starbucks. Product placing do*che.
