Exclusive: Jump SQ August Issue

My source in Japan has once again provided us with the goods, and in watermark free glory to boot. This time, we’ve received scans from the August issue of Jump Square magazine.

And here are the cast comments, translated to English.

Justin Chatwin (Goku)

I am very honored to be able to play Goku. When I am playing gentle and loving Goku, I feel as if I am given energy from him. In the movie, I have a lot of great action scenes. After the movie is finished post production, I’ll get to see my Kamehameha appear on the screen, and I get very excited when I imagine that.

Chow Yun-Fat (Master Roshi)

On my career as an actor, it is my first time to play a manga character. Dragonball is read all over the world, have many hard core fans. I hope they won’t be disappointed by my acting (laugh). But to be honest with you, I’m totally satisfied with my performance as Master Roshi.

Emmy Rossum (Bulma)

It is a very exciting thing for me to play Bulma, because I’m a big fan of her myself. She’s intelligent, motivated and has a short temper like a teenager. I really want to make all the fans of her happy.

Joon Park (Yamcha)

I like Dragonball very much because I read it when I was child, so when I got to audition I begged the director to “Please give me any small part, like a man carrying sandbags behind the screen.” (laugh) Furthermore, there is Chow Yun-Fat who is my hero from when I was child. This is a dream role for me.

Looks pretty cool, though I’m kinda getting a “Forbidden Kingdom” vibe, especially from the pics of Goku . . . though, they’re both based off the same source material, and both feature a Caucasian kid with brown hair as the lead, soooo . . . yeah. XD Guess it’s not TOO surprising that they seem similar, then, haha. It’s also an Interesting idea on behalf of Fox to release Goku in ONE of his gis in the early stage of marketing . . . probably saving his signature look for later on.

The girl on Roshi’s shirt is a nice touch, too. XD

And . . . wtf. Goku’s shirt in the second pic is pretty nerdy, hehe.

I didn’t really like the story of The One (interesting concept, but it just seemed like they used it as an excuse for the action - that’s just my opinion, though, so XD), BUT the action scenes were pretty awesome. Definitely not worried about DB’s fight sequences, hehe.

You know I was trying to imagine what the scene could be between Goku and Bulma in the second picture and I have a theory.

Bulma traces a Dragon Ball to Goku’s house and she goes there to see that no one is home so she breaks in. Then Goku arrives to see that his house had been broken into and ransacked. Bulma hears Goku and hides (Badly lmao) Bulma either takes out a gun and tells Goku to stop where he is, Or Goku does something to Bulma.

@Stonecipher: I know. I saw that photo when if first came out, I just thought it was a little odd that they’d show him in the official poster and in the manga in that gi, as if it’ll be his main gi.

Anyway, if he’s going to be in a DBZ movie, someone needs to drag him, kicking and screaming to a gym (his arms look Travis Barker-skinny when he’s wearing that gi).

I like that they kept Goku’s original blue gi that we first see him in at the very beginning of the series. I also like that they put his Power Pole in the movie as well(though they may have just made it a regular bo-staff and not have it extend like it does in the anime/manga).

Oh, and the guy on Youtube that made the two videos of how much this movie will be a total disaster can go jump off a cliff. I wish I could see his face when he sees that it is actually a good movie(whether it is good or bad, wonderful or a disaster is still yet to be seen, but I think it will be good ).

Dude. Sean, or Adam. That’s false advertising on the front page. The Dragonball Z MMORPG thing. It’s featuring screens of the Half-Life 1 modification Earth’s Special Forces, which is a 3D fighting game, and claiming it’s a 3D MMORPG. Technically, it’s not.

The only reason I’d be bothered, is because, unless whoever changed the source engine, and made it into an MMORPG, it’s all false. And Zangos? Screw ‘dat.

I cant belive everybody is buying this Dragon Ball adaptation…I am a huge fan and I dont see any resemblance between the characters in the manga and the ones in the movie…specialy Chatwin. I´ve always belived they should be all Asian…even if he is an aline is obvious Akira Toriyama Thought of them as asian…And Goku is a poor Iletrated boy who doesnt know how to count…what is he doing in high school with that cool fashion look? And the hair…oh my god…I would buy more Chatwin with long fuzzy hair( as seen in some pictures of him) than what they have done. I think Goku should be a Thai actor, like Tony Jaa, Vegeta could be Jet Li and Ten Shin Han equals Jason Scot Lee with shaved hair as seen In that Kurt Russel´s flick…I hope I am wrong and I like it when it comes out…and we havent seen piccolo jet…

ok…Chatwin seems to be pulling off the Goku experience for me…and Roshi with his perverted shirt + Bulma looking awesome is making this seem worthwhile…
buut..

1. Wheres the Tail? Goku being a kid with a tail should def have one.
(BTW if memory serves me right, Bulma shoots Goku due to the fact that he is not normal looking…and that happens when shes after his 4 star Dragonball..so that could explain her hiding from him and the pic with her holding the gun to him…)

2. Is the Nimbus Cloud going to be in this or not? I mean, I know he didnt get it until he brought the turtle back to Roshi, but that was Goku’s means of trasportation till he learned to fly…

3. Why does Roshi have hair??? Common, Roshi is bald, always wearing the glasses (unless posing as Jackie Chun) amd has a turtle shell on.. him without all three seems to be a problem to me..

@VEGETApsycho: I know your comment is really long and I dont plan on replying to it all, but instead on one note of what you said…

I understand that they are trying to make this movie be…”realistic” but the fact remains that this film is comming from something that is and always will be a work of fiction. If they dont plan on making the film as accurate as possible (going by the manga and anime) then why make the film?
Goku is an Alien…the whole DBZ universe is based around that fact.
The beginning of DBZ starts by explaining why Goku had a tail and if they decide to start of explaining the Dragonball universe as having Goku without one…then don’t expect Super Sayjin Goku because it wouldnt make any sense.
As for the Nimbus Cloud…how is Goku going to get around in this movie then? Not to mention that again in DBZ, Goku, before his trip to Namek, used it to get everywhere…

Im down with them making the movie realistic, really…it will make it that much more epic. But they have to keep true to the roots of the manga.

I myself am a big DB fan, and I have several friends that are fans. We argue this movie so much its retarded. Some are very excited about and some like me are just way to unsure. I personally cant get DB from any of the pics I have seen thus far. It just doesnt pull at me like it does when I watch the anime, and I think thats a huge thing for fans. Realisitic? How can this movie ever be realistic? Saiyans come from planet Vegeta and are warriors fighting under freeza in a ultimate universal war. If you havent watched Bardock you need to. It also shows that Roshi found Goku after he was sent to earth in a pod and actually named him although his real name is Kakarot. He has always trained under Roshi since he landed on earth. I am guessing they are portraying Goku in his teens after his tail was cut off because he was causing so much destruction on those full moon nights. Not real sure how far they are taking this movie as far as timeline is concerned, but if this is the first meeting of Bulma its completely wrong. I bet we dont get to see the Radditz saga at all in this movie.. so therefore no Vegeta… .

Sorry on the my mis info in the previous post. It wasnt roshi that found him is was Gohan Sr. He was killed after Goku went ape and crushed him. He met Roshi with Bulma while looking for dragon balls and helping Mr. Turtle get back to the sea. Which is also when he got awarded the Nimbus Cloud for his help. Bulma was given a dragon ball for her help and a little peak of her goods .

i guess i wasn’t the only one seeing that the producers, writers, director or whatever, literally took this awesome fantasy anime and decided to transform it into every other crappy adaptation that did not follow the story.

BATMAN BEGINS, INCREDIBLE HULK, IRON MAN, THE DARK KNIGHT, these are examples of what it means to follow the rules of the original content, making the fans happy, creating new fans, and making a rhino poop load of money while your at it. when will they learn?

Boy… I tell you. Hollywood and white America ceases to amaze me. We somehow managed to take another all Japanise creation and somehow turned it into an cacasian event. Must we steal everything from someone else to make ourselves seem special? Fraggin, Akira and now this. Is it so hard to like someone who isn’t white. Is it really so hard to beleive that an ethic back ground does sometimes make the movie more believeable. Do we really need another white hero? No wonder racisim still exist. It’s amazing how we remain so confidant in ourselves and how much we rule and never having actually step foot out side our boxes. In these pics Justin Chatwin looks like Piccolo and doesn’t seen to bear any resemblance to Goku they went way off especially with the hairstyle,whoever watched the animated series would know what a large amount of characters there where and how individual each character’s appearance was,very few resembled each other and this guy looks so much like Piccolo its so sad to see this franchise being raped of its iconic character.
