Looks pretty cool. The extra shoulder-padding they have to broaden his shoulders looks a little funky (as it did in some of the previous pics), but on the whole, the picture is impressive and the dougi translated nicely into live action. Glad it’s not 100% orange. XD

And, seeing as how the pic was from some Japanese newspaper, hopefully we’ll be getting an HQ scan sometime soon!

whoa, from this picture it actually looks like they did after all stay true to some of the most important qualities of dragonball. Anyway, i must say out of all the news Ive seen…. there are a couple things that stick out and give me hope for the film…

1)GOKU IN GI
2)LOCATION, their location seems to be exactly like the world of dragonball if youve seen the pics..
3)marsters enthusiasm and prior knowledge of dragonball

all i want in the movie was to see goku’s gi in real life and they messed it up , the whole movie could have sucked but if goku had a good looking gi then i would have be satisfied.this is worse the superman returns darker version of the costume. im not saying it should be exactly the same as the anime gi but come on he’s waring parachute pants and their blue. goku has been wearing is gi for 20 years, why change it now,thats like me changing the superman suit to green,yellow or some other color. goku is considered the Japanese superman and superman hasn’t change the color of his costumes.
the only reason why x-men “got away with it” is because they already had different versions of the their costume in comic books before the movie came out. the only 1 who has the best costume is bulma and that’s sad…..and not because she changes her clothes in the anime.
I sorry if I ms or bg very very >:X.

I agree Justin does remind me of a Legendary warrior that came to life.

Uggh…he’s such a wimp that they had to make the gi huge to try and cover up his wimpiness. And what’s with the sideburns? I don’t remember Goku having sideburns. They also messed up the belt and wrist straps. They look like they’re made out of some kind of inflexible plastic material…not conducive to fighting. Notice the Dragon Ball looks different as well. Yellow stars instead of red ones give it a westernized, sci-fi look for some reason, which is not a good thing in this case.

all i wanted from the whole movie was his pants to match. how is that being way to picky i just thought that if the live action goku looked more like(not exactly the same) the anime, then they can sale more merchandise to the people who are too dumb to tell from the live and the anime because of the color of their pants(their out there). I’m just saying Goku “gi” looks way too americanized.we all know that Asian’s look great in gi’s. they had to “compromise” with Justin Chatwin. Justin would have looked more “alienated”;) like he doesn’t belong “there” or he was out of place if he wore a more oriental gi(by matching his pants orange) ……… it sounds stupid but it makes since ,most gi’s are the same color on top and for the bottom.He would have look like he didn’t belong “there”(earth) like an alien

and just for the record Chatwin would have looked more like goku if he were more pale and had dark brown/black eye’s and black black hair, it would look creepy at fist but you’d would get use to it….. I’m not complaining just pointing it out.;)

Imagine the cartoon and everything we know about Dragonball came out after the movie, based on the movie, people would say the cartoon is stupid because the characters don’t match and the costumes don’t match, the story, and there’s talking animals. When “they” made the first superman movie they didn’t make any changes to he’s suit, because that would be really stupid to make any sudden changes from the comic book, you don’t know how people would react to the movie.

The sad part is anime is way harder to make live then amer.comic books. To make all the “necessary” changes because Justin doesn’t look good in a real full on orange gi and boots in the movie doesn’t make sense at all, maybe they should have gotten someone who looks good in a real orange gi and boots (Asian) to play the part. i like Justin as Goku but not his “Gi”. I heard the Japanese from Japan don’t like the gi because it’s too “American”, and I agree with them. the next thing you know people are going to compare the hammer-man to Goku. people are just happy right now because they waited for so long to see Goku live, but when the movie comes out they….. will…. complain…..

I never said the orange pants would suck, it would be better if he had them on, all I’m saying is that it’s not that big a deal. How do we know he doesn’t put the orange ones on at some point in the movie, just because he’s wearing them in the poster doesn’t mean he wears them all through the film, it’s still Goku wearing them, damn, the pants don’t make the man. I’m happy to finally see fans going positive even people who aren’t that happy here and finding good points! At my eyes, a 100 000 000$ for a movie where no actors cost a lot means damn effects and pushing the outcoming date from this summer t oapril 10th is just a good new!

For the posters available, I think it couldn’t be humanly better; in fact, it could be really worst!!!

I’m happy to see my dream comes true; since I’ve watched the very first episod, back when I was a kid, I said I’d like it in a real movie…I’m so anxious, can’t wait to see it!!! I can’t believing how many “positive” comments i’ve read on this site whenever a new picture is posted. I keep checkin links on the net that say “New pictures from Dragonball” and it always comes to this site… and quite frankly the pictures are CRAP. This looks like Street Fighter all over again. I’m sorry, but “the kid who played Tom Cruise’s son in War of the Worlds” in a LEAD role of this magnitude? You gotta be joking.

I’m also confused, because a lot of people in here appear to be BIG fans of the original comics and cartoon… but as far as I can tell this appears to be raping your childhood in order to make a quick buck for the movie studios. Yet almost everybody is “THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?”

Just for this one, over my first comment, hey, are you blind? Gokmu never had muscle before the end of the sayan saga…Even vs Raditz, he was still little…So here the movie ends vs the Lord Piccolo(the one which made an egg while dying so Piccolo(the one that killed Raditz) could dominate the world.), and Goku was still a child when he passed through Lord’s belly; he was a bit chubby, not a mr univers…
I can even tell which page of which volume it was: p70, volume 14 (French version), might not be exact same in english, but not far.
So he is not so far than a Gokmu-like person…

With that budget, it’ll be good, even if the movie isn’t that good, at least we got to see something new and in live-action.

i have been waiting for a dragon ball movie for so long. i’m a little disappointed that they’re using the dragon ball series instead of dragon ball z. if it was based on the cell saga that would be so damn cool because when gohan beat cell that was the most awesome thing ever. and then they’d have trunks in it too. and if it is from the dragon ball series then shouldn’t goku have a tail and transform into a giant monkey during a full moon?

This movie will suck. Dragonball was perfect the way it was and this movie completely misrepresents the entire point of the character Son Goku, and the philosophy he represents that gave the manga and anime the quality that they had. Goku was an honest, innocent and naive little kid who even when introduced into the chaos of the over dramatic and jaded world he had grown up oblivious to, reattained his purity and turned most of his foes into friends WITH NOTHING BUT HIS SINCERITY AND HIS DEDICATION TO PERFECTING HIMSELF AND ENJOYING LIFE. He wasn’t a pissed off, unpopular 18 year old American kid who looks like he takes life too seriously. If they make a movie that everyone here likes, I think thats awesome and I’m really happy for all of you, but the point of it being dragonball is gone since the heart and essence that made the show what it was are the two things they chose to throw away, replacing it with more of the stereotypical excess action sequences and constant shit being blown up that has kept viewers from giving the story a chance to begin with. I don’t even think Toriyama could have made this into a movie, simply because the story was a long epic, and it’s clear by the amount of time they spent on this film, as well as who they got to direct and star in it that all they see in this movie is a chance to make some cash. Even though these later batman films that have come out are not consistent with he original story, at least they stayed true to the heart of the character and made movies about that, which is why those movies were so good and are continuing to attract a wider audience of viewers (not to mention the awesome director they have and a PERFECTLY casted roster of characters.) If you’re not going to make the movie based on the essence of its original its useless to even try. i can think of at 100 ways that dragonball might have had a chance at being adopted into a movie that western audiences would find enjoyable, with a film formative story that retains the same feeling as the original and could make the shows haters take a second look. but even as a director I never would try, unless i could beat a company like 20th century fox to the punch, because i think the story is better in the hands of someone (like you out there) who knows the sotry and characters well enough that they could write any movie based on the essence and feeling alone and it would be better than this POS coming out next spring. I would even say that a true fan making this film would get toriyama in on it
