Fox Considering Scrapping Dragonball? (False)
File this under one huge rumor from Film Junk.
When it was first announced that a Dragonball movie was actually happening, a lot of people couldn’t comprehend how such an over-the-top, stylized animated series would possibly work in a live action setting. Then Stephen Chow came on board as a producer and suddenly it seemed like there might be hope. Of course, the movie was originally supposed to be ready for this summer, but Fox ended up pushing it back to April 2009. No official explanation was given, but some wondered if it might be the first sign of trouble. The fact that the movie also had no presence at the San Diego Comic Con only deepened suspicions.
This week we received word from an anonymous source that there may be some truth to this speculation after all. According to our tipster, the higher-ups at Fox are not too impressed the footage that has been shot thus far, and are seriously debating shutting the whole thing down. Now I have no idea if this is a real possibility or if the studio is just putting pressure on director James Wong to deliver, but the movie supposedly has a budget of over $100 million and I can understand them wanting to cut some losses while they still can. The thing is, if this is all true, it only makes me that much more interested to see the movie. If it it’s strange enough to scare the suits, it’s gotta be good, right?
Again, this is only a rumor, and I wouldn’t worry yet. But one can only wonder why Fox is being so secretive.
UPDATE: I contacted Film Junk to get to the bottom of this rumor.
I wouldn’t have posted it if the guy didn’t seem trustworthy. He has e-mailed me a number of times previously and I do believe him. He has nothing to gain by making up a story like this.
Take that for what it’s worth I guess!
UPDATE 2: 20th Century Fox states the information reported was false and the film is still scheduled for an April 2009 release.

August 21st, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Erm…wow
August 21st, 2008 at 4:53 pm
wtf!?
August 21st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
well that would explain why they are so reluctant to show of footage and stuff. i jus hope they dont scrape it, bad or not.
August 21st, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Sadly enough, this is probably the biggest news of the month
August 21st, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Naw, it’s coming out. Since when does fox actually CARE about quality. They’ll release Idiocracy’s ASS movie if they could.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:06 pm
If Michael Bay movies are played in theaters, than they should come through with DB.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Well, I wouldn’t be surprised. I mean I can’t help but hope so because I myself don’t like most of what I’ve seen for the most part.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:15 pm
no way,,, we are nearly in september, most of the 100 million budget probably has already been spent.. it would be ridiculous to shut it down now,,, specially with the amount of fans db has,, even if most of them are whining about the movie… but the truth is most of the whiners will still go.. they will definitely make the budget back, even if the movie isnt good
i think this is a false rumor, started by a hater, and given the lack of news lately, it doesn´t surprise me that they come up with this crap
August 21st, 2008 at 5:20 pm
omg no
August 21st, 2008 at 5:23 pm
@nanjirou: So if they did cancel it, would you be mad at the ‘whiners’ or James Wong?
August 21st, 2008 at 5:25 pm
@J: I’d be mad at Fox. It seems to me James Wong went for something creative and Fox went, “this is too different.” It would definitely not be the first time. Fox is currently arguing with Gavin Hood about “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” saying it’s too gritty and dark.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Well i think this is false. We do know that Fox pushed back the Date because they had absolutely no time for post-production. And i doubt they would shut down this movie after all the money they have spent on it with out at least trying to make some money back.
I will believe that it is still going to happen
August 21st, 2008 at 5:28 pm
omgg clearly a false rumour, i think, i hope! plz dont shut it down!
August 21st, 2008 at 5:31 pm
@J: no, i´d be mad at fox,, really mad, cause i´ve been waiting for this movie for 10 years
but this is fake,, i won´t buy this crap unless i see some real proof
August 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Well, if they do, I hope someone else can pick up the rights, like WB, and do dragonball right or FOX just starts over. Everything I’ve heard and seen so far from dragonball doesn’t look that good except maybe that cartoonish poster.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm
lol ill be so pissed if this was an elaborate Aprils fools joke like they did with the legend of Zelda movie
August 21st, 2008 at 5:34 pm
@J: it would be ridiculous to cancel a movie because it has negative buzz when they haven´t even released a trailer to spin that negative buzz
and even if its true that they aren´t impressed about the footage, as someone said, since when does fox care about the quality?
August 21st, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I dont buy that for a second.
They wouldn’t turn their backs on such a highly anticipated adaptation… theres too much profit to be made on the hype alone. Even if the movie was TERRIBLE they could scrape together a nice looking preview that will bring out the millions of fans to the premier. Its happened a ZILLION times with other franchises.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I can’t believe I’d be saying this, being a fan of DB since I was 8 (I’m 23 now) but I really don’t want this movie to come out if it’s just going to be done half-assed without any soul…
I’d rather wait a couple more years and have someone “à la Chris Nolan” except not him (”,) if you get what I mean do it and do it right.
I won’t even dare say what I think about Justin Chatwin and most of the elected cast…
if I want dragon ball, I’d want something much more in the lines of this for Goku.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/Geijutsuka/Concepts/goku.jpg
What do you guys think ?
August 21st, 2008 at 5:45 pm
actually i enter the 20 century fox website right now and they still anouncing dragon ball for next year; so i really think they are talking bull^%$# because even if the movie isn’t exactly like the series; it doesn’t matter after all that is the purpose of the movie; to see the same caracters we have seen for a lot time but in a different way and not that different
August 21st, 2008 at 5:46 pm
I don’t think this information is even legit but I agree with nanjirou. If they were planning to scrap the movie, then blame Fox for their selfishness. But I consider filing this under “false rumor”. For instance, what about the promotional pictures that they’re releasing in Shonen Jump? And not to mention they’ve already begun with the merchandise. Look at the Junior Novel they’re releasing for crying out loud and it’s scheduled two months before the release date.
And is it just me or did somebody posted a supposed picture of what maybe a video game based on the movie?
If this were true then they’ve just wasted everybody’s time. They’ve wasted Stephan Chow’s time, James Wong’s, the actors and everyone else involved making this movie and for what? Because Fox “didn’t like what they saw?” Were this to be true then this is living proof that they’re doing this in the name of the almighty dollar all along and couldn’t care less about us fans who had been anxiously, months, days, weeks for this movie to show up on the big screen. And not just that we hadn’t even seen a glimpse of Piccolo yet.
I wouldn’t believe this article just yet as Adam declared. If “anonymous” had his resources then why doesn’t he show any proof? Simple, because this article is a load of bull.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:46 pm
@Tez: the boots would be cool lol.
but seriously, why would they have actors sign a contract for 3 more movies if they werent sure if they would like it or not? i think this is false but the lack of promotion lately has been killing.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:48 pm
@nanjirou: yeah, I guess you’re right…especially about the Fox caring about quality part.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pm
@Tez: why don´t you say a name of a real person to replace chatwin as goku?? so far, no one has given me a name of someone who actually is better than him for the part, he looks as close to goku as you can get, and that´s just the beginning of it,. as even jamie chung said, it seems he was the most determined of all the actors to get his character right
and we all know how much soul james marsters put into this
james wong is a fan of dragonball, so id expect the same from him
brian tyler, the composer for the music score, is also a fan and will give a great score
so yeah, there´s a lot of soul put into this movie, specially from the most important people involved in it
August 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pm
@Tez: It’s certainly better than how Chatwin looks, but what would you think about all-CGI?
August 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pm
August 21st, 2008 at 5:51 pm
@SSJ Jon: They signed ‘em for three movies just in case. That’s what I think from a business standpoint. Better to sign a contract for 3, than 1 for each so they won’t demand more money for the sequels.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:54 pm
See in my opinion, it would be the stupidest decision to cut this movie. Even if this movie had the worst ratings, SO MANY people would still see it. This was a childhood show for mostly Everyone. Also, most kids still watch it today. And not just kids, like me, adults! I am certain millions of teenagers watch it aswell.
I honestly think this movie will make, at minimum $300 mill.
Thats there money back and then some.
Even if it sucks! It will still make money.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:57 pm
@nanjirou: how about Mio Ventigmalia (I think that’s how sou spell it) I mean this pic sure looks good.
http://extracine.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/milo.jpg
@J: I didn’t quite understand what you meant by CGI.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:58 pm
@BlueHairBulma: yeah, the more i think about it, the more ridiculous it sounds,..does somebody know of a 100 million dollar budget movie that has been canceled by the time they are close to finishing post production? ever??
August 21st, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I don’t buy this. There’s just no way.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:00 pm
@Tez: ive seen his acting, its nothing impressive, at all,, phisically yeah he looks ok to be goku, but i still think chatwin looks way more like goku than him
August 21st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I honestly just wish that the studio’s would implicate fans a little more then they do… say polls for “which actor would you want to see play goku” and give a list of possibilities and “what would you change from the drgaon ball universe ?”, etc.
but I think I might be a little to optimistic.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
FAKE!! Adam do you honestly believe they are considering it??
August 21st, 2008 at 6:03 pm
@nanjirou: Yeah ’cause I never heard of a one million dollar budget movie being cancelled before it’s time.
@Adam: I agree, Adam. It’s just means that they have zero faith in the movie even if they are considering putting it in the scrap heap. It might as well wind up like Speed Racer. Oh well. At least we all always have the anime, right?
August 21st, 2008 at 6:05 pm
@nanjirou: ok but I still am very uncertain about Chatwin’s skills as an actor, just because he played in a movie next to Tom “Scientist” Cruise doesn’t make him a worthy actor (and just so we’re clear i absolutely hated his acting in war of the worlds… lol) I just don’t see how he could shine through…
As Alfred would say I honestly hope that when all is said and done I won’t have to say “I told you so”.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:11 pm
if they really are scrapping it, all the times I’ve spent scouring this website, hyping all over it evrry single day, all the actors and training an time they put into it, getting a wee bit obsessd over chatwin and all these comments we’ve put up, ItS ALL GONE GoNE gOnE !!!!!! Oh GOD, Please may the movie be blowing everyones expectations and be super awesome to enjoy oh GOD please!!!!!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:15 pm
@J: I thought about that too. I personally think that would be pretty cool!!!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:16 pm
So if this rumor is true , then that means i was right , and all of you guys were wrong , but then again this is all bull . It would be pretty stupid to can a movie that they already invested alot of money into it . Also Fox would ruin theyre name even more by canning a movie possibly millions of people would want to see . I hope this movie will come out great , but theyre still a side of me that sees no hope for this movie . Even though they can this movie , they should let people still see how piccolo would have looked in the movie . That would be cool . I dislike fox for trying to stop Watchmen from coming into theaters .
August 21st, 2008 at 6:18 pm
@Tez: Like All-CGI, like a massively improved version of the cutscenes from Burst Limit, or like that Final Fantasy movie (the newer one), or like Appleseed Ex: Machina.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:18 pm
it’s that f|ucking petition…. it seems they are winning after all..I don’t care no more…I so sick of movies now…they already pushed back the only movie I was looking foward to this year past Dragonball…like Adam said…it may suck…they hired a mediocre Screen Writer who knew nothing about Dragonball to do the draft…and I bet if James Wong had all the power he would completely rewritten the entire…but fuck it…if they scrap they scrap it …the suffering ends and we move on…but with all means…FUCK FOX! they are getting PWNED right now by WB with all these shitty movies they keep releasing
August 21st, 2008 at 6:19 pm
@J: That would be quite awesome if the design is correctly taken care of.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:19 pm
@Tez: lol, yeah, I was dissapointed at the end when he survived that attack.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Yeah I read this earlier today on FilmJunk too, it’s sounds alot like bulls*** to me.
Where’s the evidence at?
August 21st, 2008 at 6:25 pm
This has to be fake like others are saying there is no proof.
And besides… if things like Epic movie and Meet the Spartans (and soon craptaster movie) can get Released, Dragonball DEFINATLY can no matter how bad it is, or hopefully good if the main story is there under everything that has been said.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:31 pm
@james: Exactley what i was about to post….
August 21st, 2008 at 6:32 pm
I truly don’t believe that this is true! Theres still hope for this movie to appear. We need to see the trailer and then lest see how this movie can make it to the top.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:34 pm
If anything, I think this could be a publicity stunt. Perhaps Fox wanted to raise awareness of the movie without spending money?
August 21st, 2008 at 6:34 pm
@kaypain42: I agree
August 21st, 2008 at 6:35 pm
What are You all so nervous about? That news is just a piece of crap. No petition did anything, balieve me. Fox would never do something like that. The movie figures on their oficial website, besides too much word has spread allready. It was a one way ticket for them, and they knew it well. Don`t try to dig up junk! Just listen to Your selfes and find how childish Your little conspiracy sounds. You say something about Fox trying to save their budget - they certainly won`t save a bit even i they will shut down the movie. Why? Cause is simple - contracted companys have to be paid off, and they won`t be paid for nothing, that would be just stupid and totally uneconomic. Besides, what are You all crying about? The movie so far seems great, You all just fallen under the pressure of no news and You thing that if they are silent, they are hiding something - bull shit! Sit down on Your asses and be patient!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:35 pm
OMG WTF BBQ
This is bull!
Why would they waste so much money, post production, sets, ACTORS, DIRECTOR & PRODUCER, just because they think this movie will be bad? I highly doubt this is any bit true. This would cost Fox way too much money, and they know it would disappoint some fans. I have never heard of a movie that came this close, and being canceled while near the end of post production.
They probably didn’t have Dragonball at comic-con because they had other plans for a trailer, and idk why else. I think they chose Wolverine over Dragonball, not because they care about it more, but because there has been other X-Men movies, and its probably way more anticipated at the moment than Dragonball. Dragonball most likely isn’t thier main focus, but this is a load of bull…
…I hope.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
@Gohanks:
Thank you for that.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
@ Adam
Why would fox do this as a publicity stunt ? They would make it seem Dragonball is a film you shouldnt bother watching because theyre trying to can it for being crappy .
August 21st, 2008 at 6:41 pm
@Gohanks:
I still stand by what I said which is WB is eating Fox alive
August 21st, 2008 at 6:42 pm
@Gohanks: I couldnt have said it better
August 21st, 2008 at 6:42 pm
I started out as a strong believer in this movie making it, but have slowly come to be more and more disappointed. They rushed yet took too long on certain things, like starting the whole thing and letting out ANY information.
I know this movie had to have SOME changes, but they totally took all the originality out of the story and restructured it into “a kiddy high school high” kind of movie. Who wants to see another John Tucker moment where Goku does flips and dunks basketballz lol. They so could have made this movie great by just sticking to at least the original outline. They took out important characters that helped make DB what it was, Krillin? Tien? who cares about Puar and Oolong, but they were still part of it… Who the hell is Teto? There was NO Teto, Goku was NOT in high school, he didn’t dress like he owned an Abercrombie and Fitch credit card… Where’s the ruggedness/realness of this tale???
The wait also ruined it for me… I wanted a trailer and I was so pumped for it since freakin’ February, but still no! Now I’m not too excited, when the trailer finally does come out, I’ll just be like, “meh, took too long and I don’t care anymore”.
I still wanna see what they did with Piccolo tho…
August 21st, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Fox is jealous of WB’s success of flims like the Dark Knight and 300 . Thats why theyre trying to stop WB’s from releasing Watchmen into theaters because they just jealous of them .
August 21st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
@Gohanks: Dude Your Absoulutlyylylyl Right, Listen to Gohanks Everyone!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I guess this year the movie are pissing people off…it’s like a contest…
WB already pissed off Fans by moving Harry Potter..
Fox is already pissing us off by the lack of promoting Dragonball
FUCK FOX…they are trying to sue WB for watchman and now it looks as if they may stop it
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080819/film_nm/watchmen_dc
this is plain proof that Fox is being to realize they are getting their asses kicked…they saw awesome watchman looked and knew their shitty movies had nothing against them…
August 21st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I WOULD TAKE a WUSSY ASS Yarjirobe over aN ass wipe teto anyday .
August 21st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
@Gohanks: Nicely said, no way would Fox ever cancel this film, it’s a guaranteed paycheck to them.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
I doubt they’ll scrap it. First of all, it’s a rumor from an ANONYMOUS source, I wouldn’t trust my life on anonymity.
Secondly, they have a planned toy line and a series of novels for this movie in the works.
Finally, with something with a fanbase as big as dragon ball it still would be a box office success even if it was HORRIBLE. They don’t have to make it good, if dragon ball is in the title people will see it.
So much money invested into this movie, they won’t scrap it.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:48 pm
I myself don`t really care if the movie comes from Fox or WB. The most important for me is always the outcome. It`s a bit sad, that great companies cannot co-operate, their never ending fight have it`s impact on their work, and it`s just dissapointing the fans.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:48 pm
@Mr. Jackass: That’s because WB>>>>FOX.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:49 pm
BTW Thanks all
Just stated my opinion.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Erm, guys i think, we all are jumpin the gun a little, we need to consider a couple of things here, im sure all the directors, writers, staff and crew would be well aware of the over the top DBZ anime series being bought out as a live action film, these people are not stupid, they wnt wake up 1 day and think ‘ oh lets make a live action of DBZ and scrapp it if its no good.’ Another thing is that, i dnt think there would have been a novel released based on the film if it were to be shut off, u need to consider these factors, bad or not, the film will have to be released, fox’s reputation is on the line here.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:50 pm
if WB was making this movie…it would be epic…
August 21st, 2008 at 6:53 pm
@kaypain42: How’s that? Fox has had some really good movies in the past. Although I’d prefer someone like Warner Bros. to make Dragonball, it really just comes down to the perfect director and cast.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:58 pm
again, we should all hate Teto, he fits nowhere except the inexistent role of a wuss who gets beat up and has to be protected by goku… Screw Teto, lets boo when we see him on screen… sorry to Chris Weaver, but as ‘Tit”o… we hate you
August 21st, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Fox Is looosing it baad, they wernt happy with the new x-men footage shown in comic con, they said it was too cheesy and had to much explotions, go on firstshowing.net to read the rest
August 21st, 2008 at 7:04 pm
wow all this bs with watchmen , wolverine and now more with dragonball ! fox smarten up ! people don’t want their beer watered down so don’t water down our movies STOP BEING A STUPID BITCH go back to your aliens and terminator days.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:04 pm
oH goD!! its gona bee daaaaaays until we find out if this is true or not!!!!!!!!
August 21st, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I agree with Gohanks. It’s amazing how people are falling for this. I know we’ve hit a dry spell lately and it has gotten us thinking, but don’t you think we’re thinking a little too hard? Bad movie or not, it is gonna be released sooner or later. Like someone pointed out if they can release crap like Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans, then they’ll release this one as well. Fox’s reputation would be tarnished if they scrapped it and will loose alot more then just money.
Oh and by the way, Gohanks, cool name dude.
@Saad: And yes they were making a toyline. I remember reading that Emmy Rossum or Eriko mentioned that they had their bodies scanned for some action figure lineup.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:10 pm
BlueHairBulma Says: Oh and by the way, Gohanks, cool name dude.
Thanks
I`m using it quite a long time. Not hard to figure out that Gohan is my fav char.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Just rumors…
I don´care
August 21st, 2008 at 7:12 pm
well did you all hear that fox is hurting for money!!!!! The big Sueing they are doing to THE WATCHMEN movie…yeah so I hope they don’t pull dragonball Oh god NOOOO!!!
August 21st, 2008 at 7:26 pm
*Sigh* Part of me was sadly already preparing for this. . . I’ll just hope for the best I guess.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Oh god im tearing up
fox …..i will give your whole office hand jobs personaly for a copy of this film if you scrap it.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:35 pm
i dont beleaf this at all, noting to worry over, oh and i think that james marsden (the guy who played cyclops in the x men) will be a good goku, hes built, and he can play a good guy like goku, and a badass de.eonline.com/celebrities/profile/index.jsp?…
August 21st, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Excuse me while I wipe my nose on Justin Chatwin’s ass.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:41 pm
A. Of ALL the shit Fox releases and spends money to make, this is the one they put they scrap? Riiiiight
B. Even if they felt bad enough about the movie where they would consider scrapping it…they wouldn’t. Why? Because they could still make money of of it and they want their budget back. Movie studios release shit they know is shit all the time just wanting to get as much of their money back as they can.
People who start rumors should know how the movie business works so they could at least make it seem real.
And a lot of movies weren’t at Comicon. Transformers 2 wasn’t, I’m sure Paramount is scrapping that and GI Joe as well. The Dark Knight wasn’t at comicon last year, and yeah that turned out terrible. Harry Potter was also moved to next summer recently, yeah that’s because WB wants to scrap it. These things happen. Even if it’s Fox.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Okay this is going to sound stupid but personally I think Disney would acctually be a better company to made the Dragonball movie (not so mcuh dragonball z) they would understand the light hearted part of DB and they could get away with some humor without it being to rediculas, they can also make decent actiom scenes. DONt freak out or anythign its just an opinion i would like to hear what you guys think about this tho? or an i just retarded.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:45 pm
my pic for nappa Nathan Jones, not sure how to show the link, if interested just google image him, bye
August 21st, 2008 at 7:46 pm
@Tanner: True, but I’d worry about them making a Kim Possible Dragon Ball show…not that FOX wouldn’t do the same, but I think Disney would be more likely of a candidate.
August 21st, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I really thought, seeing films like Spiderman, Hellboy and now Watchmen, Hollywood could make fantasy/adventure films of outstanding quality. But what i have read about the production of Dragonball screams one thing: Mediocre. It looks like someone could have spend a few more hours or days writing the story, exploring the characters or designing the sets and clothing. Seems more like this generation Batman & Robin.
I think that if the production of this movie stops, well have at least a remote chance to see, maybe 10 or 15 years from now, the Dragonball movie we really want to see getting made.
I would wait for it…
Dreckent
Peru
August 21st, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I HOPE THEY SCRAP IT, that would be so great… and then it wouldnt tarnish the dragonball name…
honestly, obviously i havent seen the movie, but judging from the pictures… yeah its not BAD, but i think it can be done way better and much more epic… the dragonball story deserves an epic true telling of the story… the problem is simple, they are trying to make dragonball realistic…
think about this, sin city was artistic and appealing because it kept true to the feel of sin city the comic book… staying completly true to the original source might yield fantastic results with dragonball, which i dont think they have done here…
and most importantly FIND A DIRECTOR AND WRITER THAT THEMSELVES ARE FANS of dragonball… if there are none, then dont make the movie.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:09 pm
I don’t think this is true. So, until we do find out let’s ease up on fox seeing as at this moment they are bringing us dragonball. and about the watchmen, its the guy who sold the right to WB who should be blamed. Fox still had the rights and he sold them to someone else, and last time i checked you can’t do that. and it not like they are going to stop it. They are just going to become money partners and take some of their profit. That’s business. Thats not fox’s fault….. Oh and Adam i’ve been coming here since you started this site and just wanted to say that your the man.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Adam what was the point posting a rumor like this?. There are like 99% chances this is a lie. Why post it?. Im not trying to offend you or anything but this doesnt make sense and sounds like bullshit.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:19 pm
If is true, why the fox did not cut and re-shot the bad scene instead of scrapping it ? This is really stupid !
If I was Fox, I will definitely do that !
Many country are waiting this movie. Just for that, this speculation/tipster make no sense to me.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:22 pm
@JoseMP: You never know, maybe Fox will send us something now that this rumor has spread.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:24 pm

“@JoseMP: You never know, maybe Fox will send us something now that this rumor has spread.”
Maybe that was what whoever began the rumor had in mind…
xD
August 21st, 2008 at 8:29 pm
i will never goes to the movies to watch this shit either sneak in the theaters or watch the bootleg version and if it blows (which it most likely will) ill whipe the disk in my ass crack
August 21st, 2008 at 8:34 pm
you know i kinda have this feeling that someone in this forum is responsable for this whole rumor fox thingy, ……..:(i dont know……
August 21st, 2008 at 8:40 pm
There is almost no way the rumor is true. People have listed these, but just to surmise:
1). The money is already spent. The movie is done being filmed, and post production is on its way. Fox can’t loose anymore money by releasing the film. Not releasing would just loose them more money.
2). Merchandising has already been confirmed for the film.
3). Fox recently sent out promotional pics to IGN. If they were really set out canceling the film, that wouldn’t exactly be the next natural step. They’d just come out and say it.
I think people are getting a bit too jumpy because there isn’t any news. I’d get used to it- all you’re going to do is end up believing more and more stuff that isn’t true.
I agree with moin. I’m thinking a fan from here or another forum sent in the rumor, either to see if Fox did anything, or just to add to the dragonball fanboy-hate posts.
August 21st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
yup! Total BS!
August 21st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Wow…I mean really?
Do you have to post this? If you think about it for more than 2 seconds you’ll realise that there is no way this is true….Just because the release date was changed doesnt mean shit. Harry Potter just changed dates… OH NO!? That must mean TROUBLE!!! ha… bullshit. Also, even IF Fox was this scared about the movie Im 100% certain that wouldnt scrap it.
They would AT LEAST send it to DVD.
This is just an attempt by someone who wants this movie to fail to get our hopes down and make us think the movie will suck.
WE HAVENT EVEN SEEN FOOTAGE YET!
…Dont belive everything you read.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
@Angry Man: I don’t see why Film Junk would post something they knew was fake. But I added a disclaimer to the end of the post for you.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:15 pm
OK, I just heard that they’re remaking the Dark Knight and Lindsey Lohan is playing the Joker, also Saw V will be rated G, and Gears of War 2 is coming to the Wii and not the 360, now these are just rumors, but I personally think it’s all going to happen.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Rumor is a rumor and it has to stay that way unless somebody from FOX confirms it
August 21st, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Not only is this IMPOSSIBLE, but it would be the biggest studio blunder EVER.
Who makes a $100,000,000 only to shelve it? I mean, the movie’s made. Thats it, it’s done. Now we’re just waiting for post production to finish, but other than that the money’s been spent basically. They would never pull the plug on something once the majority of the money is spent, this movie IS coming out one way or another and we ARE going to pay them to see it, they may not recoup all their losses, but they’ll be damned if they dont recoup SOME of it.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:24 pm
theres no way they’re canceling it because they’ve finished filming it already and not releasing it would make them lose all the money they would make off of the movie.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:25 pm
@Adam: ok cool…. sorry but it just really ticked me off..
August 21st, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Nah, not falling for that one. Even if it were true that Fox didn’t like what they saw of Dragonball, the first option would be to change and/or reshoot some stuff. Scrapping the whole thing would be a LAST resort.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Could you imagine Marsters reaction to if it go scrapped?
Marsters: What!? Cancelled! I sat 4 F**KING HOURS IN A F**KING chair every F**KING day to have make up put on me that no one is gonna F**KING SEE!!!
He then walk over to Fox headquarters…….
Marsters: This is what you all deserve.Special…..Beam…..CANNON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 21st, 2008 at 9:32 pm
geeze….then
gahh..
people will find almost anything to bitch about.
people will never be satisfied with anything.
“oh my god, chatwin doesnt look like goku”
“hes, not even buff”
“not an all star cast”
“pictures look lame”
ok, its an adaptation. not gonna be your way, nor somebody else’s.
maybe fox was a bad choice, MAYBE, if people say so
but at least they gave a damn to buy the rights in the first place
you people haven’t seen the trailer.
and its bugs me when people say
“this movie should get cancelled!”
ignorant people. never giving anything a chance.
and again, this is JUST a rumor. so geeze, calm down!
August 21st, 2008 at 9:32 pm
*If it got scrapped
August 21st, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Yeah, this is definitely just a rumor. Promotion is already under-way, money already spent, etc. I cannot recall a studio — especially one so business savvy and controlling as Fox — that would let a movie get all the way into the midst of post-production and marketing, only to finally conclude that they wasted their money.
Besides, Fox has released worse than what the DB movie looks like it’s shaping up to be. And DB already has a built-in fanbase to lean on, as well. It’s not like the movie won’t make any returns at the box office. They have a helluva lot more to lose if they DON’T release it.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:37 pm
this crazy no way they cancel this movie its 100 million man no way they would waist all that money fox is greedy and dont give a fuk about wat we want
August 21st, 2008 at 9:40 pm
@Nanjirou: lol, its nanijou, not Nanjirou
go ahead, wipe it as much as you like
August 21st, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I Hope This movie never come Out lol !!!
Joke
August 21st, 2008 at 9:53 pm
@K-Mart:
You have no idea how much that made me laugh
August 21st, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Guys…It’s not true. They are finished filming and the effects have already been laid down. If the movie was to be canceled it would have already been so. Trust me when I say I KNOW this movie isn’t canceled..
August 21st, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I bet Fox is going to release the trailer any minute now that this rumor is out…lol
August 21st, 2008 at 10:42 pm
@Moplaya43: I remember everyone getting excited when we heard the trailer would be released back in February.
And now look it’s 7 months later and there’s still no GOD DAMN trailer lmao.
August 21st, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Well if the Dragonball movie is shut down then I guess this site will become a place of dread, hate, bitterness, and death…..a place to release all of our hatred for having spent so much time on this site just to learn of our movies demise…..dark days lay ahead…….dark days…….

August 21st, 2008 at 10:44 pm
if this is true than maybe fox really isnt in it for a quick buck because there are plenty of polls on the web right now on most anticipated adaptations and Dragon ball is certainly up there on almost everyone. also they kno more than anyone the number of dbz fans there are and how much money we will give to see even if the trailer looked lik crap (which i dont think it will) so maybe fox is taking quality over quantity
August 21st, 2008 at 10:56 pm
i think it’s mad up so we have something to talk about…… because
