Fox Loves Dragonball

Remember Film Junk’s post on Fox not being pleased with Dragonball and considering a possible cancellation? Well, Superheroflix reportedly has a source that is very close to the film, who reveals the exact opposite. Maybe Film Junk needs to re-evaluate their sources.
The film was completed a while ago, and the reasons for moving the film’s release date from this summer to next spring was to insure that all of the needed special effects were completed. We have a source that is very close to the film. And he/she says that the first edit is done, and that it has been shown to those “higher ups” at Fox. And that they love the finished film. Our studio contact, who we aren’t allowed to name at the moment, worked on the production, and has seen the completed movie. Everyone involved seems to think they have a hit on their hands, and he even went on to say that it was “pretty darn awesome. There is certainly talk about a sequel. I have no doubt that it will happen. I’m sure that it will be a trilogy.”
If you are anxiously awaiting Dragonball, don’t be scared by these sudden rumors that the film is being scrapped or sent directly to home video. That is certainly not the case. Dragonball is still set for a April 3rd, 2009 release date.

I believe that the film alone would be like lord of the rings without the other two films, you know a cliff hanger, definetley needs onther 2 atleast because since its based on the manga, it needs to go into detail about the saiyans and stuff, wonder how chatwin will look in the second film as a super saiyan.

stay with the freeza saga…..as much as id like to see trunks…..i think it should end with freeza, the movies will turn to crap once it reaches the android saga
second movie will start with raditz arriving, goku dies, trains with king kai….saiyans arrive, other friends come, die, goku come, beat them. then it ends when theyre about to go to namek, and u get a glimpse of freeza.
3rd part. they go to namek, zarbon and dodoria die, vegeta steals dragonballs, ginyu force comes beats them around for a bit, goku comes beats ginyu force, gets injured, other guys make their wish, freeza comes beats the other ppl for a bit, piccolo comes, goku comes, fights freeza, throws spirit bomb, freeza kills krillin, goku super saiyan, dies with freeza on namek, or does he? the end.
i think other stuff will be changed tho. maybe freeza is on namek with the ginyu force instead of zarbon and dodoria. who knows? i wanna see a big ape fight between gohan and vegeta in the second part, tho.

burter or someone can easily go on a killing spree against the nameks. one of the ginyu members can tell vegeta that freeza destroyed planet vegeta. maybe jeice. vegeta steals the dragonballs from the ship, runs into gohan and krillin who are carrying the last dragonball, and freeza sent the ginyu force after them, and then theyre forced to work together from there. they try to make their wish, but theyre too late and captain ginyu takes the balls and leaves. and all that crap happens like the show.
im still wondering how exactly freeza steals the dragonballs tho. haaha ah well, if they work along these lines, the movie should be pretty good.

Good to hear they love the movie. I think the cell saga should end the series. He is my fav villain in the cartoons. I think they can do a cell saga. The buu saga, maybe not. Even though I loved the saga, buu’s character is very silly at the beginning. That’s why I think it might not work. That’s just my opinion. What I think is that they need to bring SS3(my fav transformation of all) into the big screen.

Cell saga is the most epic saga of all! To not do it would be crazy! 3 good reasons! 1) Vegetas final flash thats killa 2) Gokus instant kamehameha! 3) Gohan turning SSJ2 that is mind blowin!
I would def be fine with a trilogy at this point. If it made it that far,I say bring on Cell and end after him seeing how I amongst many others agree that he’s the best villain as well as the Cell Games Saga being the best in DBZ. If it must end with a trilogy and with Frieza,as long as it ended on a non-cliffhanger and Goku turned Super Saiyan,I would be thrilled. Live action Super Saiyan would kick ass!!

Saiyan-Human Hybrids are naturally stronger than pure Saiyans.
It was stated in the anime a couple of times.
That doesnt mean Trunks and Goten are stronger than Goku or Vegeta, but they have the potential to be stronger because naturally Hybrids have more potential.
Now about Gohan and Goku, these 2 ended as the strongest fighters in the universe at the end of Majin Buu (not at the end of DBZ years later), whether it was Ultimate Gohan (aka Mystic Gohan) or Goku SSJ3 it was left open for the viewer to the decide. Both were equally as strong at the end of Majin Buu, but it wasnt stated specifically who ended as stronger (at that time). But Gohan if he would have kept training after Majin Buu his “ultimate power” would have had increased even more because as a Saiyan-Human hybrid, he had more potential than Goku (Pure Saiyan). But we all know Gohan stopped training after Majin Buu because he settled down, finished his studies, started a family and became a normal working person. So probably Goku and Vegeta surpassed him even more in those post-Majin Buu years (This is speculation, but you can tell this could be right because all Goku and Vegeta did in their life was training and training and training and therefore getting even more stronger).
So probably by the end of DBZ Goku and Vegeta ended up as the strongest ones, because Gohan stopped training and Goku and Vegeta didnt.
Still Goten, Trunks and Gohan could be stronger than their father only if they kept on training but they probably didnt because there was no need for it, so (in my opinion) Goku and Vegeta ended as the legendary strongest warriors of the universe.

All I have to say is both ‘anonymous’ sources, the one who said Fox wants to scrap it and the one who said Fox loves it and wants to make it a trilogy are both full of crap and basically need to keep their big, lying mouths shut.
You know which one I believe? I believe the one that was an official statement from Fox who said the movie is still planned on being released.

. Raditz coming to earth at the end will be out of this world. It will defiantly make this movie a masterpiece, but I don’t think the Director is smart enough to do that. I guess will just have to wait and see.
this movie is going to kick ass….but if they are going to make a trilogy, personally i think they should not end it at the frieza saga. I think they should have it end with goku beating frieza and then end it with an open ending. Not so much a cliffhanger or an obvious way to conclude but just left open ending. That way if it made enough money they could make another movie. I personally think they should do the Cell Saga because that saga in my opinion was the most intense and emotional saga. But for these movies i think they should do it somethin like this
Dragonball: Goku vs Piccolo, Goku wins shows piccolo jr come to life then end with the cliffhanger like-ending with either Radditz showing up on earth or Vegeta and Nappa on their way to earth or somethin to lead it into the Saiyan Saga.
Movie 2- Dragonball Z? Radditz, Nappa and Vegeta come to earth and have goku save the day in the end but have Vegeta live and escape somehow leaving it with another cliffhanger like ending with them departing to Namek or have a scene with Frieza determined to finish what the Saiyans didn’t somethin like that.
Movie 3- have the heroes trying to find the dragonballs to summon Shenron or Porunga which ever one works best for this story and have Frieza show up but instead of having him change forms a bunch of times have him change just once. cause it would be kinda gay to see his other forms. have him go from his small self slowly changing with him yelling and change scenes to make it more suspensful go to a scene with bulma or somethin…yada yada yada….go back to frieza have him finally change into his true form big ass fight between goku and him…have frieza kill or do something to enable goku to reach Super Saiyan but in a way that would make sense and have Goku win and everyone else thrilled that he won but have them think he died a hero or somethin but leave it Open Ended with maybe somethin that isn’t quite explained
then if they make a forth have it more focussed more so on the Cell Saga but with the Androids. Have Trunks in it, but for this one to make sense i think Gohan should be a Teenager…cause to me it wouldnt make sense to see an 11 year old boy defeat Cell…kinda like the Dragonball movie where Goku was a little kid and they are makin him older….i think they should do that with gohan in this saga…have Cell nearly kill his friends instead of killing android 16 to make him reach super saiyan 2 and go from there…have the final show down between the two with their kamehameha’s and end it with Gohan being the hero
and finally if they decided to go with the Buu saga..i dont really care too much about this one…id be satisfied with it ending at the Cell Saga but i wouldn’t mind..if they did this one the only thing i can think of is have buu in only 2? maybe 3 stages?…his super buu form, MAYBE his form when he fights gohan, and kidd buu…and of course have this one focussed more so on Goku and Vegeta, their feud they’ve had forever and then have them being the ones who save the day…..you guys decide i dont care……some of these idea might not make sense but i didnt wanna go into extreme detail cause everyone already knows what happens in the series if you are a fan and watched/read the series but thats how i’d like to see it….but all in a way that makes sense and isn’t rushed
oh and one more thing to add to the Buu Saga is they decided to go with it…..who would wanna see Fusion be done in live action? I for one am 50/50 on it…i do because it would look cool….but at the same time it might not work well in a live action movie it might seem gay or not make sense….but who knows right?

Yep I read your script!! I don’t think it was dumb at all…. It was good it just needs to be more cinematic and not predictable. That stuff already happen on the show! I would like to see them go a different route with it and do something unpredictable.
There is still whining, crying, “real”, super, “true”, and now “old school” fans on here complaining about characters, if it aint that its something else. Maybe they didnt want to throw every known character in to the first damn movie so they can save some stuff for the sequel so they can have something new to show. How do any of you know what characters might show up anyway, you havent seen it. And how are you gonna speak for fans around the world? What, you actually “looked around the world” for this and found out that 100% of “real” fans dont like the movie… ya right. Stop trying so hard to prove how bigger or better of a fan you are, “Ive been watching since I was 5″… so, ” ive seen every episode”… good for you, thats so damn gay when people start saying all that. Although again ill be happy if they make it to the Super Saiyan Goku storyline. It would be pretty sick to see him and Gohan go up against Cell though but who knows eh? lets just wait and see and hopefully be happy with what we do get

Wow, it’s been a while, and there’s been some ups and downs while I was away, but fear no more, I am here to provide my input! DIS MOOVY R AWSUM!!1!one
Ahem, *awkward throat clearing, not to be confused with Amen, a closing to prayers of certain religions* in light of recent events, I must say that Dragonball the Movie has overcome obstacles of fear, hatred, and doubt, and…*Reading comments above* WHAT?!! DBZ was supposed to end with Goku’s death?! Not to undermine the importance of everything after the Frieza Saga, but that would have been so poetic, it would have been THE perfect ending, Goku, the martyr! All his life, he fought for the weak, only to die so that the universe may live in peace! Ok, my description is a little cliche, (damn firefox for not recognizing cliche as a word, I spent five minutes trying to figure out how to spell it, only to learn I was right!) but I think somewhere around GT the series was being drawn out too long. Maybe earlier (I’m trying not to upset die-hards, oh, what the hell!) There is always too much of a good thing, too much sugar=diabetes, 2 much haxor 733t s934k=?confusion?, and too much Dragonball GT seasons=loss of substance. That being said,
THINGS I DO NOT WANT TO SEE IN THIS MOVIE:
-A bunch of super saiyans flying around destroying continents while trying to hit each other. (KAMEHAMEHA! *Bye-Bye, South America, you’re apparently expendable*)
-Stand-alone mindless violence (I’m all for movie violence, but only if it has a purpose.)
-A half-baked plot(unless, of course, the movie is Half-Baked :wink:)
-Fox’s evil money-making corruption (I’m a bit of an odd character. I hate the corporate power type of thing, but I love wearing suits! (Nader Complex? Sue me.))
-Any John McCain subliminal ads (tying in with FOX.)
-Epic fails in acting (I’m not really worried about it. Chatwin, Marsters, and Fat give me hope.)
-Many other cheese-tastic things, except, of course, free cheese.

It was Piccolo Jr who developed that “skill” (if you can call it that way) to regenerate. King Piccolo didnt know how to regenerate. Piccolo Jr trained to master that skill to avoid getting killed the same way his father did.

Yeah Raditz should come at the end of the movie…. and he should be played by Tom Welling ;), does anyone have a good reason not to cast him, he does look like Chatwin. and Shin Koyamada should play Vageta in part Z, i know your thinking that it should be played by Ray Park, but it gives the impression that all Saiyan are white.and he looks way to old to be bulma’s husband anyway.

I hope that the name dragon ball is honoured with all force by this movie, I hope that the fox knows what is doing.
I think the first movie should end with piccolo killing both raditz and goku with the beam cannon, so people think goku is dead at the end. only to show some surprise after the end credits. That way they wouldn’t have to worry about the raditz fight in the second movie and we could have both the vegeta and freeza sagas in one movie.
I just don’t want to have to wait til the 3rd movie to see goku go super. i guess i’m just searching for away to not have to wait that long.

The reason that King Piccolo couldn’t regenerate, at least story wise, is that he wasn’t a true Namek- just the evil portion of one. By being born, Piccolo Jr was transformed into an actual Namek, so he has all the abilities of a Namek.
Other than that, the alien stuff wasn’t planned so far back in Dragonball. It was after that King Piccolo saga that it was even hinted it. Before that, he was just a demon.

So this one time, I turned into Batman and fought the Joker on top of a skyscraper and he told me about his scars. It was a good time and I saved a dude. That dude was happy and he happened to be an executive up at Fox, so I went in secret because Warner Brothers wouldn’t have liked it if they knew I went to go see Dragonball, so using my learned ninja skills, I went with the executive to go see a private showing and it was amazing. The CGI was awesome and Piccolo looked alot like James Marsters…I was intrigued but I came to love it. Goku kills Piccolo at one point and his body turns into a boulder and falls on Tito (who they explained to be Krillin). Goku didn’t like it and brought him back and they had a giant Yu-Gi-Oh battle in the middle of the desert and Piccolo pulled out Exodia, and they cut out there.
It was pretty sweet.
King Piccolo is not a true Namek. Kami is. That’s also why most of his children are not Nameks. Only Piccolo Jr. was (and Jr. is a true namek.)
And again, the whole Namek thing was formulated after Piccolo’s introduction.
But, away from that and back on topic- it’s good to know Fox likes the movie, but I didn’t really think they wouldn’t. The movie is coming whether people want to believe it or not- it’s just a matter of whether you want to show your support for it. I for one can’t wait.

ok granted they might be able to pull this movie off… i figured out a better way to make the movie in which I’m pretty sure they didnt do…
they need to make dragonball like the fantasy it is… take a look at some of the episodes, especially the original japanese version which the kind of music it has…
now look at somethingn like the movie legend or something… it has that fantasy feel… the only thing that really would need to be done differently is to make it a lot more epic, but still carry the fantasy feeling that dragonball actually has… keeping the fantasy style would allow for unrealistic “ridiculous” looking characters … hence all the crazy looking characters in the movie LEGEND

i think this movie will do just fine…..it wont be exactly the way we want it to be but then again it is an ADAPTATION…..so things are bound to be slightly off….such as the whole goku going to highschool thing……but its gunna be epic….like translating the cartoon and manga into live action will be awesome…just seeing a live action Kamehameha will blow my mind….so i think its definately gunna be worth the wait….and there will definately be sequels if this does as well as i think it will

to all the people talking about raditz. sorry but i’m sure he won’t be in any film ever. i read somewhere awhile ago that wong at the end of the film have piccilo tell goku everything about his past. about being a sayian and everything. Because he didn’t want raditz in and he could just get to vegeta and nappa for th next film. so no raditz. i hate it, i’d rather raditz tell goku then picciolo but that’s what the director wants so.
Let me clear up this vegeta being asian problem. He’s from planet vegeta, which does not have asian people so how could he be considered asian? So he’s not asian he’s not white, he’s a sayian, which is it’s own race. So whether he’s casted as an asian or a white man, it doesn’t matter. Just as long as who ever does the acting is good at martial arts and can act.
So please people stop complaining about races in the movie, as long as the acting is good, the writing is good, and the direction is good, the it will be a good movie and whoever plays whoever won’t matter.

I don’t recall anyone from the movie ever saying “No Radditz”. Fans have said it, but those are just theories.
The only thing that was stated was that Piccolo reveals his Saiyan heritage. That doesn’t remove Radditz from usability, it just makes his part a little smaller. (Goku still doesn’t know he has a brother, and if they play it right, it could be an awsome fight to open up the first movie. ) The producer also said Goku may die at the end of this film, or the beginning of the next, but that was from a report in a spanish newspaper, if I remember correctly, so who knows how legitimate it is.
From a screenwriter’s perspective, the inciting incident of the second movie would either be Goku’s death, or the reveal that the Saiyans are on their way. Both of these are covered in Radditz’s death, so his part is integral to the plot, assuming they stay semi-true to the story.
The race thing has been debated over and over again. It’s pointless. The characters are alien, and it’s merely your personal perception that assigns what the character should be. Could Vegeta be asian? Yeah, definately. But there’s no real actor I know of out there who fits the essence of Vegeta, can speak good english, and can be a match to Chatwin in look. (Jet Li is great, but like others have said, his English is not the best, and while it works for other films, it wouldn’t in this one. There’s too much that goes in Vegeta’s dialogues to miss because of the language barrier.)
That said, I am sure there are plenty of unknowns who would be up to the task, but from the cast we have for the first film, it wouldn’t really fit, unless an unknown was amazing in the audition process.

Anime has none-race characters ,which mean anyone can play an anime character, and It doesn’t mean that “they” should let all the main characters be played by white people. I think the Japanese artist and the people who thought that Goku was Asian, learned there lesson when they found out that Goku was going to be played by a white person in the movie.

The studio was REALLY happy with Superman Returns as well but look what happened. Sony was happy with Godzilla 1998 as they were with Van Helsing (the movie they boasted would beat Spider-Man 2), again look what happened. It’ll rank right up there with the live action Fist of the North Star movie which is not a good thing.
