New Trailer Screenshots!

Nerdorama has a bunch of new Dragonball screenshots from the trailer (set to release on October 17th)! Included in these shots is our first look at James Marsters as Lord Piccolo.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed these screenshots are not from the official theatrical trailer, but from a teaser trailer shown at expos.

    hmmmmm I Its good and bad we all know piccolo as a greeen badass but hmmm
    I don’t know. he looks good in a scary way but I wonder how he will act in the movie. Four things will describe if the movie will be good. 1) Goku’s and Piccolo’s acting 2) The story 3) The Kai blast and 4) Fighting. Hmmm Time will tell :!:

    Holy crap, those are a lot of nice images! =O

    Highlights for me are definitely Chatwin in the orange and blue gi (looks pretty cool, especially with the nice color correcting/tone of the scene), the awesome Bulma poster, and of course the first glimpse at Piccolo!

    Re: Piccolo, though: He’s pretty cool, don’t get me wrong, and I like that they made his skin tone a faint greenish color, instead of a full-on, bright green . . . but, eh. Maybe it’s because I could picture him so well in my head that I don’t feel super hyped up about the big reveal? Anyway, I know it’s probably PG-13 ‘n’ all, but I think they should’ve made him even more decrepit and scary. XD Ahahaa, I can’t wait to see Marsters in action. . . .

    Piccolo looks sooooo amazing…. This is Better then my wildest dreams!! Piccolo kind of looks scary…. I can’t wait to see his acting!!

    This has made my day… week… MONTH! This has definatly raised my hoped. I was afraid it would look too much like Final Destination! I don’t mind Piccolo (which is a major shock) but it definatly works for a movie. Common, who didn’t see then making it like the anime. This Piccolo is better for the movie imo. Can’t wait to see the trailer and footage in action.

    Btw, Chatwin IS Goku!

    Also to add, two things I noticed. The circle of monks, Mafuba! And also if looks like Goku is landing in one of the picks (high jump from Cliff, Nimbus, or even flying?) anyway… it looks like Roshi’s laying on the ground.

    wow, turns out the dude who posted a pic of picollo on his youtube video 3 months ago was right. He had a pic of picollo sitting on his throne wearing a long red robe with a blue sceen behind him. Wow, who knew.

    So yeah, these look like shots from a Uwe Boll movie. It really has a Dungeons and Dragons vibe to it.

    Kool, Piccolo looks awesome. Now, Justin IS Goku in the last image. But ya, it looks like Goku just defeated master roshi on that one pic. Never compare Dragon Ball to Uwe f-in Bol, Uwe Bol’s movies suck. Liek that one movie he made, in the name of the king or whatever peice a sh*t movie it was. The orcs looked like power rangers.

    okay i was shocked with the piccolo pic 8O but after a few minutes it’s beginning to sink in and i like it :-)
    Green is a problem on film. Remember, they use “Green Screen” for cgi because that color doesn’t show up on film and they can easily put FX over it. If they made Piccolo the original green, he would disappear and you couldn’t really see him well. They had to pick a shade of green that was slightly yellowish so he would stand out on film.

    I don’t care if the movie is gonna suck ass, I like dragon ball, and I personally want them to make a sequel to this one, regardless of how well it does on opening. I sure hope to god that they don’t screw the movie up though. Fox says that they really like the movie, so much that they will make a sequel, so that has to be good.

    I dont think he looks decrepit at all, his face is smooth. There are no antenae. I kind of think the pic of Goku in a fighting pose with the desert background looks kind of cheap…i mean, it looks like he was in front of the green screen.     I agree, Piccolo is not green, but maybe it is because he is old and he will become a bit greener later. I hope in the next movie they give him a costume that looks more like the outfit he wears in the anime/manga(purple dogi, white cape, and turban).
    Is it just me, or does it look like Goku may be about to powerup for a kamehameha in the last picture, because I seem to see a blueish color to his outstretched hand(it may just be because it is blurred as he moves it), or perhaps he just fired off a blast.
    Anyway, I love the pictures and I can’t wait to see the trailer and movie.

    The movie is not going to suck, if it does, then the whole Dragon ball (z) franchise is ruined. If you don’t want the franchise to blow up in flames, watch the movie. And if you want to watch the sequels, watch the movie, because the only way the sequels are going to be made is if the movie hits it big during opening day and/or in it’s first or second week at the box office. That’s how sequels are made. Sell well, make a sequel, please movie goers and fans.

    I can confirm that piccolo is not yellow. I used photoshop to identify the dark colors on the side of his head and it’s appearing bright green.

I understand this is an adaptation but Piccolo…IS GREEN in the manga and anime…it just doesnt make sense that the would change it.     Fox didn’t use a green screen in this film, at least not for Piccolo’s scenes. They used a blue screen, there’s a pic of it on YouTube somewhere. This is actually more common in Hollywood, ask George Lucas.

    Also he is definitely missing the antannae, but he does have some odd looking nubs where they are supposed to be. Who knows, maybe they’ll pop out or grow back when he transforms.

    @yamoto-studios: If the antennae ever do pop out, they’ll probably be smaller than that. It also looks a little funny because, well, this is just green over top of the old piccolo makeup. The sculpt won’t change much, but I’d say his features will become far less sharp when they’re given a more youthful tone.

    I honestly think Piccolo looks like complete crap. More of a vampire look than actual nemekian. But its FOX. so you cant expect much.

    Ummm well piccolo is way too different looking i am very dissapointed in this look he looks like a freakin’ yellow vampire. This hurts my head.     I think everyone should just take a chill pill. You will probaly find that piccolo will look more green in the footage because these are stills and it is very easy for color to vanish under lights. I think this is the case because the shadow parts of him look very green and where light hits the screen looks very yellow. Anyway I like it piccolo has that mysterous I’ve been trapped for a thousand years look about him. ANd the red robe looks alot like the ones worn by the monks I wonder if he killed one of them stole it then did some undercover work to find the dragonballs. Also this looks more like footage from a tv spot than a tailer. And im surpised to hear no one mention how awsome the dragonball looks. Heaps better than the one shown in the poster we saw earlier. and its glowing which means there are other dragonballs nearby:) . But still have to wait for trailer footage to know what it will be like. But I think it looks awsome.

    Piccolo looks more demonic than a Namek in these pics, which is how he is suppose to look if he is the OLD looking piccolo b4 he becomes young again (as everyone is saying). Probably, when he becomes young again he might turn that “perfect green color” Marsters was talking about. Let’s take the x-men franchise for example. Magneto wasn’t all buffed up or had the same color suit as in the comics but was still badass, and trust me even Magneto is a very important character in the x-men series as much as piccolo in dragonball and dbz. Just gotta see how the movie plays everything out. If Marsters said he did the best he could to make piccolo, piccolo then gotta take his word for it.

    But I gotta agree with you, hes not scary looking,decripted however you spell it,he looks like a vampire. Marsters performance is the only thing that can save the character in my opinion, wether it be his actions in the movie or his voice acting during it.

    I’m not ready to play kiss ass to the character just yet. Just have to wait and see how he performs in the movie. Marsters certainly doesn’t look the part as i think piccolo looks crappy BUT if the voice is good that he uses and has at least some of the piccolo attitude then that could change peoples minds about it.

    But for now im sticking with what im saying and the people can say ”boohoo stop whining” but those are people just ignorant to someone else having an opinion.

    People that get bent out of shape that someone doesn’t like a certain aspect of the movie that they like need to lighten up. Everyone has their own and opinion and they often differ. Deal with it. lol

    The movie wont suck because of the changes, anyone who says that is ignorant as well. The only way ANY of us can determine if this movie sucks or not is in April of 09, after we see it

    PICCOLO IS GREEN !!! He looks just like that because of the white lighning effect that they put on him on that pictures … when you guys look at the pic in the gave he is already more green.. but even there he has a spotlight on his face thats why he is not totaly green. I think he wont be deep dark green like the Piccolo Daimo from the Anime but he is green … a little bit lighter … but def. NOT YELLOW. -

    People should note also that piccolo is suposed to be a demon and the (well he is a alien) but he is drawn in the manga as what a Japan demon looks like. The new look is more like a western demon or devil which is what picollo is (in dragonball). Im not sure the original picolo look would have done so well at the cinemas. So in other words I think that they have translated him for a western mainstrainm audience correctly.

    One good thing though is that Chatwin DOES look cool, I confess I am surprised… He actually reminds Son Goku in the last pic…

    So far the only characters that are at least good are Son Goku and Bulma… I don’t find Chi Chi anything interesting to be honest, Piccolo, well I’ll wait to see, but he’s a vampire for me so far, and Master Roshi is just my biggest disapointment, specially because it was so easy to make him look like the anime and look cool :(

    James Masters and Jame Wong probably make him look old and decrepit with the make up, but Fox and Tom Rothman got it their way by editing it in post production to make Lord Piccolo look “young and beautiful”.

    I have been supporting this movie for many months now, but this could be a turning point. Lord Piccolo doesnt look old and decrepit at all, all the contrary, he looks young and beautiful, exactly like the Fox executives wanted, the same thing James Masters and James Wong were fighting against. But since the Fox executives have the last word, they probably put their dirty hands in post-production and made Lord Piccolo look the way they wanted (young and beautiful).

    What a dissapointment… really.

    Im pretty sure now a lot of people will start insulting me and eating me up but I dont care anymore.

    All I hate is the suit, Piccolo, you better ditch the suit in battle or I’m gonna fucken go nuts, other than that, I’m heads up for Piccolo cos he still is green and he looks a pale old.
    The antennas would look ridiculous in real life but I still miss them.

    Piccolo does need to be more green, a sort of darker older less primary green.
    The dragonball is supposed to be a smooth crystal sphere roughly big enough to fill your hand’s relaxed grip, in this one it just looks like a small light-up squeezy bouncy ball. The shots of roshi training with goku and the scene with goku in mid fight (blurry one) are quite promising. The shot with what looks like Roshi lying on the floor and Goku with his hands in the air is reminiscent of several things; spirit bomb pose, mafuba!, when goku met bubbles on planet kai and started imatating his walk. Nice pictures, and its good to see Chatwin doing something other than posing and doing that typical actors “intense stare” thing.

    TBH i am quite disapointed slightly in how Piccolo looks, the “No antenna” thing i can live with but he must be green, it’s like making HULK pink or sumthin’ lol…but for all we know this could be the old decrepit Piccolo who hasn’t yet made his wish…???

    …….. Total let-down for Piccolo. I’m still pessimistic with J. Chatwin being Goku though (Jon Foo would have made a better Goku). Bulma looks “ok”. I guess my hopes for this movie have crumbled.     Josh thanks for your comments. I have been supporting this movie since february, but this was the turning point for me. Now that doesnt mean the movie will suck, the trailer and the movie itself will decide that. But im not gonna bother checking on news about this movie anymore.

    Lord Piccolo was supposed to be the greatest thing of this movie and it turned out to be dissapointing. At least his looks. I hope Masters can make his part well.

    I have read so many comments over the internet that the outcome of Piccolo can either make or break this movie. If that’s the case then I believe this movie has been MADE. Come on guys, it doesn’t look bad because James Marsters would never let that happen. You have to agree that Justin looks awesome as Goku, that’s really important.     I’ve noticed a few people saying that the images are complete fx shots because its from a trailer, such as the colouring for Piccolo. Sorry to burst your bubble, but its common for first trailers for movies to have imcomplete fx shots used. Just check out the first trailer for Spider-Man 3 and compare the scene where Parker rips the symbiote off with a later trailer or the actual movie. You can even see fx missing in the scene where the symbiote is crawling on him in bed. Shadows are missing and it actually shows the spider symbol changing, which didnt’ make it in the final cut of the movie.

    Im really expecting a lot from this movie. I had my doubts originally- but this looks like its got potential… except for the master roshi/no beard thing. They had better hormone jack Chow Yun Fat for the sequel. If I dont see a santa beard and RayBans- Im gonna be pissed. Ha. And Lord Piccolo- AMAZING.     Think of it this way: In the original material, people always asked Piccolo if he was feeling alright (because he was green). In cartoon-world, green people means sick. THIS Piccolo sort of looks like he’s a sick human (kind of pale).

    But I am sooo dissappointed with this film. I still think Chatwin looks like a poofter, Marsters looks a little like piccollo but I’ve seen better Piccollo’s done on Photoshop.     Namekians are green people that only survive on water. Maybe they are like plants. If you take a plant and put it in a dark place for many years, do you think it would still have it’s green color? probably not. Maybe Piccolo will regain his green color when he wishes for his youth.

    I still have high hopes for this film. I think that Chatwin actually looks awesome in those pictures, and I think Roshi looks awesome too. The Dragonball also looks shiny :lol: . However in the rocky pictures I do think the background looks a little bit cheap. I was also dissapointed that Piccolo didnt have antennae and look like he does in the anime. But I still think he looks pretty badass and scary and it hasnt changed my mind about the film. I understand that they needed to change things to make the whole film look less rediculous and i cant wait to see the trailer let alone the film. I cant wait to see the Kamehameha.

    Master Roshi did train Goku for a short time after the first DB saga, he tought him stuff along with Krillian, they trained w/ him together for months just before the first world tournament saga. i think you need to re watch the original DB again.

    @Osiris: That’s what Nitram was talking about. Roshi didn’t teach Goku any moves (besides Goku looking at Roshi doing the Kamehameha, but Goku just got it down on his first attempt). Roshi really did just throw a turtle shell on Goku’s and Krillin’s backs and made them do all these crazy workouts. When they were done with that training, they asked Roshi to teach them some moves, but Roshi said the Kame Sen’nin way is to just get people stronger, faster, etc and they can use the techniques they already know when they fight. :wink:

    they just changed it up a bit for the movie, which i dont mind at all. Gohan will probably die early on in the movie,right at the beginning most likely, they’ll just say Goku learned some styles from him when he meets roshi and roshi will be the one to ”perfect” them so to speak.

    Which is cool since Roshi is a bad ass anyways lol. Think the main reason i want to see the movie is how awesome the Kamehameha is going to look, all character f ups in this movie aside, not even FOX can screw up the Kamehameha lol

    I have a feeling this will be another cheese ball movie. Just looking at the characters. Dragonball was uncut with pure fighting awesomeness.

    This looks like another american inspirational martial arts movie, like ” The Forbidden Kingdom ” which epically failed.

    Didnt James Marsters say in an interview that Piccolo would definately be green. He did, maybe they just havent finished the effects yet. But then, why the black suit, if they were gonna do CG it would have to be chrome or blue. I hope he ends up green. Or I will be sad, PLZ FOX!     everything looks great except for piccolo´s skin tone,,, the rest looks awesome

    I really like what I’m seeing.
    Piccolo: Obviously, they were trying to combine the first villain with what they considered to be the scariest: Frieza. He even has the Frieza lipstick.
    Goku: Looks okay, actually. But I don’t like how spoilerish that one pic is. If I know my generic movie plots, Goku has just defeated Evil Lord Piccolo and is now trying to resurrect Master Roshi using a spirit bomb, in which he summons all the life force in the entire Universe to either destroy a planet or, perhaps in this case, bring some back to life.
    Krillin: I really, really regret that Krillin’s gone.

    Like a real ROCK. Not a piece of hard plastic that is carved to look like a rock. You are just one of those hardcore fans that can’t realize the truth. You are blinded by your own bias. One the other hand, I am realistic and understand reality. I am not complaining about Piccolo or anything else. Just about the quality of the set and the aesthetic look of the film. The film stock looks very low-budget. But I am being very premature by judging it off only a few scrennshots. Lets just hope for the best!

    P.S. In the Roshi-resurrection pic, you can see Goku raising his arms to the sky, just as he does in the anime for the Spirit Bomb. Furthermore, look at the shadows cast on the ground. Something very bright seems to be just above he and Roshi, which, again, is just like in the anime.

    I’m not scared the movies’ going to be bad. James Wong’s a good director and he hasn’t made one completely bad movie yet. There’s plenty that’ll be off the mark in db that’s for sure, but judging by his past work, it won’t be something like those shit fantastic four movies.

    @dhadley1257: Piccolo probably is green, a light green, but the color correcting done in post-production might’ve faded the color more so. For instance, in some of the earlier leaked pics, Chatwin’s gi looked like it was a sharper, deeper sort of orange, whereas in these trailer screencaps, it looks faded, almost yellow-y.

    They might’ve also made his skin lighter to eliminate problems with the green screen (always gotta be careful of characters wearing green against it) . . . though that might NOT have actually been a problem. Couldn’t they just have used blue screen, if that were the case?

    Anyway, people can stop saying, “Maybe they’ll fix the green in post!” Because . . . these are pics from the trailer. And trailer is full of footage that is completed.

    Um I know the movie is going to be good, but piccolo NOT GREEN is pushing it!
    I could accept roshi with less facial hair
    I could accept bulma with just streaks
    I could accept Goku in general (I really like Chatwin as goku)

    They said that the make up artist spent at first 17 hours applying the piccolo make up to james marsters . Than after that , 4 hours everyday . James also told in every interview he had , he and his son watched every episode of dragonballz . The casting, the director, the fact that it’s made by Fox, and the fact that Ernie Hudson is in it (everything he’s been in after Ghostbusters has been pure crap.     @J: Since Goku doesn’t meet Roshi early on and sees him do the kamehameha in the movie like he does in the anime/manga, then maybe the picture is of Roshi teaching him the technique to performing the kamehameha, or perhaps teaching him some tai chi-like technique to summon and concentrate his kai which then leads up to him learning the kamehameha.

I went to photo shop and all the colors are white , brown , light yellow and shit like that . Theres no tint of green . Piccolo dont old for shit also . Goku and Roshi look alright but with all the changes fox did and everything they were on life support . Everbody expected a kickass identicle piccolo .     I usually never voice my opinion and stay quiet but this is just crazy. I’m very annoyed by the Piccolo pictures. Maybe its the fan-boy in me but seriously how far are they willing to stretch an amazing series. Goku being in high school, Ok, but Piccolo not being Green come on. This is just ridiculous. I for one am not curious about this movie anymore. The dream has been ruined. It was ruined when i heard this will be live action. Really no reason for it but ok. I’m just pissed about Piccolo looking nothing like his Anime counterpart and the horrible changes made to make this film more friendly to non DB fans. Hope everyone enjoys the movie I for one will never see.

    so i bought season 5 on dvd just recently to get reeducated on a few things. first off, goku’s hair MUST be the way it is in the cartoon, if anyone knows dragonball its all about the hair! a full blooded sayians hair never changes or grows from the point he is born. and piccolo looks like a vampire from blade or something. Man why cant hollywood educate themselves before rushing into something that has made more money from its franchise than this movie will ever make.

    What the hell is this about a petition to cancel the movie?! You really want to stop the release of this movie just because you can’t accept that there are necessary changes that must be made in order to make an ANIMATED CARTOON into a LIVE-ACTION film. There where many things changed, added, and taken out when they turn the Lord of the Rings into movies(the books were so much better than the movies, that is always the case when a book/show/game is made into a movie). They consulted the creater of Dragonball and people who know Dragonball before they made any decisions on how to make this movie. This movie is just ONE interpretation of Dragonball in real life, there will be differences! Not everyone had the same opinions or preferences that we all have, so what they come up with will not COMPLETELY fit with how we want to see it as a movie.
    The idea of them copying the Force idea of invisible energy; the person who made the recent fan-made trailer using the screen-shots was able to make the blasts look like some fiery energy, so if he could do that with whatever cheap program he has(I don’t know what he used or how much it cost, I’m just trying to make a point), then the experts doing the special effects for the movie should be able to do the same if not better with the more advanced program(s) they have. I would think that in real life the blasts would look like streams of fire(the kamehameha looks like a large flame at the spot where it comes out of Goku’s hands….) or like balls of fire.
    As for Piccolo: No antenna? If you look closely at the poster of him there appears to be something on the side of his forehead, perhaps they grow/fold out when he needs them to sense energy or use magic. Piccolo not being green? Does it really matter if he is not the right shade of green. Maybe some of the others are right, these photos are of him old and he becomes greener when he becomes younger. Or maybe it really is just the lighting. Him looking like a vampire? Remember, this is James Marsters playing him, we have all seen him as Spike in Buffy and there is not going to be much of a difference between him as Piccolo and him as the ugly Spike when they use makeup; he will and does look like a bald Spike, but so what?!
    I am not saying that this movie will be amazingly awesome, it could very well be crap, but the only way we will know that for sure is to WATCH THE MOVIE, not base it ALL on screen-shots, photos, interviews, etc. Remember the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”? This is all the cover, what we see at first glance, we have to open the book or in this case watch the movie, to see if we actually like it. In my opinion, some of you are too wrapped up in how the movie and anime/mange are so DIFFERENT that you don’t concentrate on how they are SIMILAR. Fox put all this thought, time, energy, and money into making the movie, the least we can do is to watch it, just to see how good it really is. You are like whinning little kids, you just can’t appreciate what you have been given!
