Video Game Planned
Playthings has confirmed that Fox is planning on releasing a Dragonball movie video game.
Twentieth Century Fox has appointed Gary Rosenfeld to the position of Senior Vice President of New Media Licensing, a role with oversight of the studio’s portfolio of video game projects and management responsibility for Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising’s (Fox L&M) games development staff.
Rosenfeld will explore opportunities in the growing PC online game space and investigate new business models and partnerships in the console publishing area. A handful of Fox properties will make it to the top of his list as he begins this new endeavor, starting with the studio’s major upcoming film releases and television brands, including Avatar, Night at the Museum - The Battle Of The Smithsonian, Ice Age 3, Dragonball, The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Prior to joining Fox L&M, Rosenfeld was a business development executive at video game publisher THQ Inc., where he managed the worldwide activity for product acquisitions and licensing. In total, Rosenfeld brings more than 15 years of interactive and licensing experience to the position.

My prediction: It’ll get a 1.5/10 on IGN.
I don’t even buy the crappy shovelware games from Atari so I definitely won’t be buying this future turd of a game.
I’ll stick with DBO whenever it comes out.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
@DPA: Haha same here, but I’ll probably play it at Walmart or something.

September 29th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I’ll give it a shot. Everyone knew pretty much it would get its own video game. It was just a no brainer.
Now I just hope the animated series never sees the light of day.
But the video game is fine to me,I’ll be looking forward to seeing screens/game play of it in the future
September 29th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
frsh: don´t forget me!
September 29th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

September 29th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
your probably right,I kinda wanna see how they would do the enrgy blasts
September 29th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Saw that one coming. It’ll be bizarre to play as Chatwin!Goku, though, heh. Hopefully the game doesn’t suck as much as most movie-based games do. XD
September 29th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
It will be different…
September 29th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
i cant imagine a came thats not like Boudikai or tenkaichi
September 29th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

September 29th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
@Moi :
better say:”Hopefully the differences between this movie and the game won´t be so much”

September 29th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I may rent it if I hear it’s entertaining. I’m gonna get DBO for sure if it comes out here in North America.
September 29th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Cant wait. Hope its out for the PS3!
September 29th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
@Karen:
I might just rent it and if its good buy it.
I’d feel better if it was based off the new animated series (still not confirmed) telling gokus backstory.
ADAM DO A PODCAST this stuff is good for some chit chat.
September 29th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
dbo will be a million times better then then crappy knock off of a dbz game and lately i have realize dbz games are the same if thaey one game that was a combo of rpg/fighting/action/adventure/card battle and it was when goku was a kid and then he gorws up like it from db to gt
September 29th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
another dragon ball game!!!???

September 29th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
bu still….its all for promotion.
September 29th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Any movie games are crap but at least we know that it’s getting this much attention.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
this will be tite

if its by the same people who created spiderman 3
i hope its long, for ps3, online playing and good graphics
September 29th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Yes, the fact that it’s a movie-based game means it will certainly be horrible! Just like that Spider-Man 2 pile of garbage!
[/sarcasm]
September 29th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Spider-Man 2, Goldeneye, Batman for NES…the only 3 good movie-based games that were any good. As if DB the movie will get a good game shoveled out by the time it’s released.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
theyre wasting theyre time and money .
September 29th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
@Mr. Jackass: yup
September 29th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
September 30th, 2008 at 4:00 am
I hope they’ve been working on the game since filming began, because if they just started making it….it probably won’t be that good (but i’ll be playing it nonetheless), cause it’ll be rushed.
September 30th, 2008 at 5:57 am
my dpa u too lol but i might rent it at video store u kno cuz i kno i can beat dbz games in weeek so i wont waist more then 10 dollars when it is release tat way u buy it and still not waist al your cash so u wont feel like u got took by the temptation og the game cuz it had the name dragon ball in it u kno wut u relize this is only db game evr played in america excpet that one on gba but this will be the second game based on gokus adevetures as a kid

September 30th, 2008 at 8:54 am
mmm i think it was obvious lol practically all movies like this one have games
September 30th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Its good that the movie is recieving that much attention to get its own game, but I’ll stick with Tenkaichi 2!
September 30th, 2008 at 10:09 am
You know what i’d like to see, is a dragonball mmorpg. that would be pretty cool, you start off as a simple being who learns and developes skills throughout time.
September 30th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
@Drej: Its called Dragonball Online.
Anyway chances are I will get this game just to see how it plays out. And besides, we get Dragonball Origins and Dragonball Z Infite World in November =D
September 30th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
pikachu i never heard of those wu are those gonna be on pc or a console
September 30th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Well hopefully it won’t be as bad as Dragonball Z Sagas. That game was horrible. I bought it, beat it, and traded it in like two days later for Resident Evil 4. Best decision EVER.
September 30th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
dragon like i said go to blockbuster or gamefly.com and rent it then u wont feel like u got trick into buying game u can beat in a day or two rent guys rent it
September 30th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
@frsh: On consoles…. Dragonball Origins is a DS game. Its an adventure game that seems a lot like Phantom Hourglass. And Dragonball Z Infinite World is just like a new revamped Budokai 3 for PS2, and it has what looks like a kickass story mode.
However Dragonball Online is a PC MMORPG
September 30th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
oh i kno about dbo dont u worry about that but im not goin to buy ps2 one cuz i dont have one but i got a ds so ima get origins thx for tellin
October 1st, 2008 at 12:53 am
I don’t think this is a good idea. They’ll just waste more money and time. That’s all I’m gonna say.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:46 am
i want to buy Dragonball Z Infinite World. hey SSJ4Pikachu, is the MMORPG any good?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
It isn’t out yet, they’re still developing it.@SS13gohan: It isn’t out yet, they’re still developing it. Wikipedia says that the MMORPG will start beta testing in Korea by the end of 2008. Check out trailers on Youtube.. it looks like a pretty neat-o game.
October 5th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
I was discouraged when I saw the movie especially when I saw Piccalo. Overall I just don’t know what this game would offer beyond what the current ones do. If its in depth RPG that follows the full story of the movie, it might have some replay value, other than that, i’m not sure.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:16 am
i hope its an excellent movie
because i love dragon ball
and obviously ill play the game
October 6th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
What is this…it’s bad enough that they mess with the franchise by making a movie that has no similarity (besides the names and somewhat of the story) but a game? Oh lords, its like killing an innocent old man and then to top it off shame him by spitting on him.
Oh well, atleast we got Dragon Ball Origins.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
so we come to this a game based the movie
October 9th, 2008 at 7:49 am
As long as the Dragonball video game follows the plot of the movie, uses the actors from the film, and follows the example of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (Y’know, actually being GOOD!), then I’ll definitely buy it.
Only problem is, will it come out on DS? That’s the only system I have that games are still coming out for.
October 12th, 2008 at 11:32 am
this game aighnt gonna sell much becuse half of u lot are gonna rent it anwyays
October 13th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I hope it will be a good game!
October 15th, 2008 at 7:45 am
HOLY SHIT!!

October 15th, 2008 at 10:08 am
who the hell create DBZ?!.. everyone was so frantic about it.. to the point they want to make a movie and a game of it and yet they can;t still meet the standards th DBZ should have.. just forget about it.. DBZ was just for anime
October 16th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
@RJ:
What backstory of Goku could there possibly be? No, I haven’t seen every episode of the franchise, but I’m pretty sure Dragonball covered Goku’s beginnings. Do you mean the time between DB and DBZ? If so, I don’t think there’s much to cover there, personally.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
@SSJ4Pikachu:
I know Sony just grins every time they think about their beloved PS2, but they need to get over it. Yes, it was popular. Yes, it sold more consoles than gamecube or xbox. Yes it has myriads of useless third-party games that 90% of people probably have never heard of. But don’t you think it’s time - Time to let go, Sony? The PS3 is here, it’s not doing so good, and it won’t likely come out on top in the end. Better luck next time. Let go before it’s too late. Stop making games for it now - BEFORE the PS35 comes out! And hopefully by then, they WILL have stopped making games for PS2, AND will have a better, more creative and original name than ‘Playstation [insert number here]!
October 16th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
In my standards, all Dragon Ball games have been pretty good. No miracles, but still good.
The GBA ones (Legacy of Goku, LoG II, Buu’s Fury, GT Transformation, and DB Advanced Adventure) were all pretty well done. The first three (The DBZ based ones) were all adventure-RPG type, my favourite probably being Buu’s Fury (improvements over time on the original, right?). That suited the system well. GT:T was a good start that led to the better DB:AA in the fighting genre, but comparing the two seems difficult and wrong. I really enjoyed DB:AA because of the story - I did not have the chance to watch DB as a kid, so much of Goku’s junior history is lost to me. Good thing they had reruns on tv for a while, but that didn’t do me any good. Hopefully they’ll become widely available on DVD one day.
On another note, I never played any of the card-based games. When it comes to a beloved series such as DBZ, I don’t see that suiting the franchise at all. Plus, I don’t really like those type of games, unless the card system is well established in the franchise (Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh).
Most of the other games were for the main-stream system competitors - GCN, PS2, and X-Box. Being a long-time Nintendo user, I’ve only owned DBZ Sagas for gamecube. I liked it because it was an adventure-type game, more or less like the series if you think about it. There was not really a RPG aspect to it, unless you consider the addition of attributes that make your character stronger. Not quite the same, but almost.
Any other game I’ve played for a mainstream system was a fighting game. I don’t really like fighting games in the first place, and then again I’m not all that great at them either. Let’s just say I’m not good at fighting games because I can’t get into them, and I can’t get into them because I don’t like them. And they’re awful to play with friends - way to competitive! Anyway, the fighting series of DBZ games progressively got better, eventually allowing more freedom on the battlefield with being able to control your flight instead of constantly facing your opponent. Serious lengthy combos were also sifted from later games, with players being able to apply a limited amount of moves themselves (I <3 10X Big bang kamehameha!).
Story is probably one of the most important parts of a good DBZ game in my eyes. All of the GBA DBZ games followed the story through to the end of the Buu Saga pretty well. DBZ Sagas went pretty smoothly through to the end of the Cell Saga, even including playable parts in Trunks’ future. The fighting games always include key fights to the series, but since I don’t own any, I can’t vouch for their completion in the storylines.
What I do know is, is that movie-based games often do disappoint. They are much too short 99% of the time, and the graphics are usually well below par. They are probably rushed to the market by developers forced upon with deadlines. What they really need to be forced upon with when approached to make a game is standards.
Bottom line, I don’t think people should make games based on movies. Not unless they can make it worthwhile, anyway.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it should be 4 DS,WII,PS3,and GAMECUBE!!!

October 18th, 2008 at 1:53 am
I’m Sorry but after seeing the leaked db trailer they shouldn’t make it unless they make it right if you ask me cause there are going to be alot of pissed off hardcore dbz fans who will go crazy. at least make the characters look like the character off the show and use what was in the manga which i’ve read millions of time that use there specail attacks ok
October 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I hope it’s not like the othe DBZ games, that all you do is fight.I hope it’s an Action-Adveture kind of thing.I want it to come out for the DS or the PS2 unless I have a WII by the time they realease it.The only Bad thing about it is that the actors don’t look anything like the characters in the anime so I hope they fix that in the game.Anyway,I hope it’s not a disapointment just like Iron Man(the game).

October 18th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Im just hoping it’ll come out on the PC for once
