Dragonball Reshoots

According to Actors Status, Dragonball will begin filming again (for additional scenes and/or retakes) on October 30th. If you’re between the ages of 20-70 and are fluent in Nepalese or Tibetan, this information may be for you.
well that’s a little weird, i guess they may need more extras in certain scenes

well i for one am happy that they are doing reshoots…it just gives us that much more stuff in the movie. hell it may even make it a little longer. not that i wasnt satisfied before, this is like overdrive now. i cant wait for some more leaked set photos of these reshoots.

This may not be a very good sign. It could mean they have a bad movie on their hands that they want to patch up and make better somehow or it’s just a bit of polish on the final film. Well in any case, I hope it comes out better for it.

Well, hopefully that won’t delay the movie again…nor the trailer, lol!!! I mean, yeah we want the movie to do well, to be great, but we also want it fast, ehheeh…but since sometimes we can’t have it all, then i prefer to wait if necessary!
And yeah, LOTR had a lot of reshooting, months after the movies were made. 
Also, it’s one more proof that they are taking the movie seriously…

It seems like they are trying hard to make this movie work. Sure it’s a longer wait but atleast ther are just not tossing us a half finished movie.

They might be doing this for a lot of different reasons.
1. They might not like something and want it redone.
2. More characters to explain the story or to make the movie more dbz like. (maybe krillin).
3. It could be some advertising stuff that they wanted to add in the movie.
4. Dont be stupid, off course they are taking this movie serious. 100Mil doesnt grow in trees, and they have to do good in this movie to make more and to make more $$$.

I think they are shooting a scene where the Fullum Assassins attack that girls village.
For those of you who read the leaked script a village was destroyed and people were slaughtered, leaving one little girl and her Dragon Ball. This little girl tagged along with Goku and the gang and it later turned out to be Mai in disguise.
I think they are filming something involving this village being attacked or something. It has to be a village. Or it might be that villiage of the hidden monks we keep hearing about, a reshoot of that. Reshooting Master Roshi visiting those monks.
For those of you thinking this is Krillin, it’s not. Krillin doesn’t speak Nepalese. Krillins role in this film is a brief cameo at Kame house, nothing more. You all are having wishful thinking to think otherwise. Don’t set yourselves up for disappointment.

@Bucky-O-Hare: My thoughts exactly. Ive been long suspecting when this movie was going to do re-shoots. Ive been waiting for the announcement. But they stopped filming in March, and I was right about the three month film schedule not being effective enough for the movie. This is clear evidence the movie is just not up to par on what it has to deliver. So, I guess maybe FOX extended the budget a bit and approved some re-shoots.
In a way, im glad this is happening, it could mean that the movie will be better than previously anticipated, but this could also spell disaster for the movie if the re-shot scenes are inconsistant with the filming they did seven month ago.
So, well see. But it is interesting why they decided to resume filming now after so much time has gone by. I guess in the cutting room, besides the special effects, the movie is done. And it’s either missing a few scenes to make the story better, some scenes may not be so good as initially thought and a better job could have been done. Or it may also mean that the movie is just too short, aooarantly only 90 minutes, maybe less. Not very impressive for a movie like this. So, maybe theyre shooting for over 90 minutes.
Either way, well see what results it yields. Could be good, could be bad.
as long as this doesn’t change the release date I’ll be super stoked!!!

@Mikey: Look, they can add in any amount of scenes as they want, but the movie itself just doesn’t retain the magic of the Dragonball Anime at all. If you watched it American style (meaning by the american edited episode compared to the uncut japanese version), it’s just not as great as you think.
The movie is just going to end up how Speed Racer did, not only they had negative reviews, they didn’t make enough money to pay the budget off. The difference is “dragonball” will be a lot worst because a lot of Japanese fans will probably reject this film since this a worldwide release and we a lot of American fans and at least half of them thinks it sucks, especially in Hawaii. If you think this comment doesn’t make a point, just don’t respond.

@secret: You make a great point. Well said. I mean, look at how Toho responded with the American Godzilla movie from 1998. Toho responded with Godzilla 2000 and the millenium series. And they even re-named the monster “Zilla” if you can believe that, and even further pointing out he was a horrible design by destroying him in Final Wars, and even making a reference to him as the Americans only “Thought” he was Godzilla in one of the millenium movies.
You know, there’s a striking similarity between the American Godzilla movie, and the Dragonball movie. They mirror each other pretty well. Dragonball had been in development hell for 5 years, as was Godzilla from 1993 to 1998 when the rights were aquired. Both movies are adaptations of their respected origins, not true re-creations. Both movies failed though out the 5 years to get off the ground, and both movies have met with harsh criticism by fans alike.
So, since history has a history of repeting itself, I think this Dragonball Movie will be the American Godzilla of this generation. I think its a perfect comparison, and perfect contrast, they do share a lot in common.

@DbzGokussj4: Yeah, ive been wondering if the re-shooting isn’t product placement. This movies budget is pretty big at a 100 Million. And depending on how demanding the re-shoots are, they can easily go over the 100 Million mark, if they are not already past it. And perhaps some scenes are going to have product placement put in. If so, thats kind of shameful just to pay for the movies production costs over improving the actual movie itself.
Now, I know product placement is sometimes needed, and necessary when needed, but if its needed to pay for a movie, over telling a good story, or making some great action, then I would be pretty disgusted by their greed. And thus proving this movie has no business existing in the first place if the franchise cannot be properly represented to the masses.
It’s anybodies guess what they will re-shoot.

Most likely this scene sounds like it will happen after the movie or it will be a flashback or happen pre -main story. Could be a remake of the opening scene. Maybe they have decided they want to start with gokus ship crashing into the mountains of tibet.
And I think godzilla comparisions arnt the best for this movie considering the only reason people liked the old godzilla today is because of how lame it is and its considered to be a joke. The godzilla film didnt fail because it didnt “capture the spirit of godzilla”, it just failed because it was a bad movie.
And all that matters about this movie is if its good or not and nobody repeat, Nobody knows the answer to that yet.

It shows ‘PERFECTLY’ what a western adaption can do to a thriving and very cool series.
…Alot of people are thinking that these ‘reshoots’ are going to help the movie. First of all from the looks of it, we’re not gonna get a coherent trailer for 22nd of december and ‘TDTESS’ so whatever we’ll get will look visually good, but the content won’t be there.
As for the reshoots, I seriously doubt it’s gonna be a good thing, adding scenes to a movie that already looks like its as far away from the concept of the Piccolo Diamioh Saga isn’t going to improve the movie, it’ll make it worse.
No one wants to hear this because its a blow to fans of the story and the idea of ‘live action DB’ but you’ve really gotta look in yourself to say ‘am I being really truthful about this, is it going to be a good movie when its not like the story of dragonball?’
Go see the movie, I will…and then-if you’ve bleated its gonna be good and it’s not-don’t bitch about it. Let the people who are standing back and admiring the movie give the slating it deserves.

For example a LOT of changes were made in Spider-Man and Transformers, i could give you a whole list of changes they made for those films… but did that stop it from being successful? No of course not so what makes Dragonball any different from any comic book movie being made today

Maybe now, after seeings the response of some 16,000 people who watched the trailer here and elsewhere, they’ll go back and put in what makes dragonball dragonball: Will, Heart, Lightheartedness, Goku, and the type of ki-blasts we’ve seen and love from the anime. You know…blinding white stream of energy heading towards someone….and yes, it’s been said it goes the speed of light, but that doesn’t mean the director can just make the blast instantenious. Without this, dragonball will fail.
And the great thing about goku, the thing which made all of us geeks like him, is that he is not from society. He’s an outside, and he’s not self-conscious about being odd. Goku is goku, and he’s happy being himself. It’s the other people who adjust to his persona, not the other way around. Goku accepts all who he meets, regardless of their flaws. He doesn’t reject anyone for any reason. He fought piccolo, and Tien, and Yamcha, and Vegita, but he did not hate them. Goku doesn’t hate.
And he is not the depressed kind. He’s the angry kind, when there’s something to be angry about, but he’s not fucking depressed. If they make Goku a depressed type that’ll destroy the character we know and love.

I’m guessing the same thing. Harry Knowels at AICN said he heard nothing good about Dragon Ball the Movie. This coincides with one of the extras who told us all he and the rest of the crew were cringing at the dialogue in the movie. They may very well have produced a turd, which would truly be a shame and an embarrassment for all involved. Dragon Ball is not what some say it is. It’s not dumb. It’s not silly and pointless. Beyond the Good VS Evil angle, it’s about what it takes to be truly powerful and that’s basically through humility. Because Goku’s this unassuming, innocent, good guy, he’s able to achieve greatness. That’s a brilliant thing to tell people. Hopefully fox gets its act together and makes it happen.

Stop saying that they’re only reshooting due to fans complaints, that’s not true.
This is VERY common for movie making. Some shots don’t turn out the way the directors and producers think they will, and they don’t fit anywhere and aren’t good for editing, so they go back and reshoot some scenes.

But they totally screwed it over, because Transformers in Japan were just the Autobots and Decepticons…they didn’t even really have sides, they just transformed…we put those labels on them here in america. And look at how THAT adaptation turned out…. MULTI-BILLION dollar success
now don’t say that the same can’t be done w/ Dragonball.

Listen to me, look at Dragon Ball (Z, GT). It’s a show that is basically around fairly developed characters that kick each others butts. Sure, it’s an anime and has some very Asian elements, but down to it’s core this is what it is and will always be. When people whose opinions are like yours decide to put it the fact that it’s JAPANESE and AMERICAN producers are ruining it’s JAPANESE everything, it’s just terrible. There’s no need to point that they’re American, because that factor does not matter.

They’re still going to change it, and their nationality is not a factor, the source material’s nationality shouldn’t matter either. secret, I just saw Max Payne the other night and I thought it was successful and I say.. I’d pay to see it again, I love mythology, action and drama, and that movie had all of that. Last time I checked the movie had a shitty RT score but I still can’t wait for a sequel and I hope it gets one. Max Payne the movie was different than the game, though I still think it was good.. there isn’t much need to change it. Some aspects of the movie that were from the game were what critics hated, it’s really hard to please everyone.
I’m sorta going no where but I think you shouldn’t leave, but I do think EVERYONE needs to stop being aggressive. We all have our opinions, and I am just as big of a fan of DB as much as everyone else but I do not want a direct movie translation from the original source, I wouldn’t enjoy it. I want something fresh that stays true to the source but isn’t afraid to go in new directions……LIKE TRANSFORMERS. I love transformers, I mean I FUCKING LOVE TRANSFORMERS. But I didn’t get pissed off when Optimus Primes Truck was changed to a different model to better suit realizism, or that bumble bee’s travel form was changed and that he was combined with Hot Rod/Hot Shot, though Hot Shot might be in the sequel I doubt it as bumble bee has taken his place entirely. See characters were fused and it worked.

ok secret i’m i haven’t read all of the posts so i don’t know if anybodys really explained it to you but the world is made up of different cultures with different sensibilitys and languages. for that reason when a seris created by one culture is ported over to another there are changes made to it to fit the sensibiitys of that culture. i have huge respect for the original dragonball manga and anime but i don’t speak japenese so when i watch it i prefer to with a dub. lately i’ve been watching the dvd’s with the translated subtitles and i gotta say i like the way that the lines were redubbed in english. and i also prefer the english background music over the japanese. it just sounds more dramatic to me. i’m not saying theres anything wrong with anybody who enjoys the show in is original form but thers nothing wrong with enjoying a version altered for your culture either. you just cant’ expect something to came from a different culture and stay completely the same. and thats not only in america. have you ever seen the japanese interpretations of the tmnt or spider-man.

Its true that we Americans tend to “Americanize” lots of peoples cultural tokens like dragonball or transformers. That doesnt mean that its going to be for the worst. For all we know, this movie is going to kick ass. Or it will suck royaly, and no one will see it again. And, it will be FOX’s fault for not sticking to the original dragonball show. Also, if the Japanese love Dragonball so much, then they wouldnt have given us the rigths to make an adaptation of it and they would have made one of their own. OH wait, they did! And guess what!? I also doubt that they will be adding Krillin to the movie. That would take way too long and cost way too much to add a knew character. Just think of all the work it would take. re-writting scripts, wardrobe, editing. Hell, Chatwin was training for 3 months before playing his role as Goku. Well, so the movie is going to change a lot which is good since the “leaked” non-official trailer appeared on the ‘net was really disappointing and far from a finished product.
Now let’s expect a further announcement from FOX that the movie is going to be delayed to a November2009 release date. Fall 2009 it’s the most obvious release date.
Even if they are re-shooting a 5-10 minutes runtime that would require many months of all new CGI and probably the preliminary low-resolution one that they already created has to be either scrapped or heavily modified.

For all i know, re-shooting is normal in many movies, when they see some scenes that didn’t turn up as they expected it, or didn’t work out so well…LOTR had scenes edited long after they finished filming. For now, all we know is that they’re reshooting, we don’t know why, and it’s not gonna be one site that decides to throw that news so suddently that will make me fear it. Until FOX reveals their reasons, or we see some official news, there’s no reason to believe that, imo…

just watched speed racer and when i think of it i’m glad with some of the changes they are doing with this movie. don’t get me wrong i loved the movie and the original anime but why it failed was because it turned off to many casual movie goers. now i’m hearing about fans of the series saying how much they hate the movie cause of mach 5
the w brothers really captured the essence of the original anime for the fans but i believe that’s the same thing that killed it in the box office.
so my point with dragonball are some of the changes are good and even if you adapted it 100% like the anime, fans will still complain.

King Piccolo having a sword is cool with me!! It gives him more of a swagger….

King Piccolo having a sword is defiantly gangsta, because it separates him from Piccolo Jr.
Plus it makes sense, because Goku has his Power Pole extend. So Piccolo having a sword is a major plus for me….

Having a sword can be a big advantage for the story!! It all depends on the direction of the director. The sword can be used to destroy Goku’s power pole!! Goku will probably realize in the end that he doesn’t need any weapons to fight Piccolo. He will probably reach a new level!

Just watched that trailer and it looks epic, dragonball needs to pull there finger out now, watchmen has a budget of 120 Million And Dragonball 100, So they have the adventage over us right now, the effects looked amazin in that film but some parts wernt brilliant, Fox You Better Make Dragonball The Biggest Kick Ass Film Of The Year!!!!
Stop being so whiny about piccolo’s sword, fine we didn’t see him using it in the anime BUT, HE does have a sword (since he has the skill to summon it, like he did to gohan, so i’m pretty sure he did use once), and using a sword doesn’t mean he can’t without it, it doesn’t make’im look weak, since trunks in waaaaay future use one too.
so yeah, they never showed goku and chichi kissing but we know they did, we never saw piccolo using HIS sword, but nothing that bad if his using it, so quit it x.x

This is good, because Piccolo’s sword will play a big part in the story. That makes allot of sense!! Why? Well, because Piccolo Jr. gave Gohan a sword in the show. The sword in the show had no purpose, because it appeared out of no where. The sword in the movie will have a purpose, because Piccolo will give Gohan the same sword he faught his dad with.

re-shoots: are scenes that are re-shot. because something wasn’t right for either the producer and/or director..all in all that is a bad sign.
now from reading this board..everyone seems to be talking about pick-up shots, which are new shots developed and planned out after the first cut. and pick up shots are more common and usually involves extras, stand-ins and a few main characters.
but the fact that they are re-shooting scenes mean they messed up something BIG, with the release date 6 or so months away i would be worried.
The thing that makes me mad is that watchman already has 2 trailers, not teasers, real trailers, and it’s coming on 2009 as well, and dragon ball hasnt even a freaking teaser…
i’m afraid that watchman will kick dragonball ass T_T

I never said Piccolo Jr. should use the sword. I said he could pass it down to Son Gohan!! Making King Piccolo have a Sword is another way to seperate his fighting techniques from Piccolo Jr.

King Piccolo will Transform into Piccolo Jr. towards the end so that means his power level should be much higher.
I was open to James Alexander ideal of passing the sword down to Gohan, because it did make sense and it was a good ideal.

Having a Sword can be good for the story, Let me tell you why??????????
Lets first realize that the Sword doesn’t make the man, the man makes the sword!! Trunks demonstrates this in his battle with Freeza and King Cold.

I suggest you watch it, because it’s obvious you didn’t understand the message DPA!!
The Sword and Power pole is not and I repeat NOT the source of there power. It’s only used to demonstrate there fighting skill and technique and that’s what we need to see, so the movie can have another reason for power levels.
King Piccolo can use his sword if he doesn’t want to demonstrate his full blown Power or he may use it on weaker villians such as someone with the power level of 15 or 30.
When King Piccolo battles Goku he can show him that there is no need for weapons. He can tell Goku weapons will only hold him back and they won’t have any effect on a fighter such as himself since both there power levels are equal!! He can demonstrate energy blasts are much, much powerful then weapons. The people new to Dragonball need to know this!! This will give the people in the audience a reason why the Z warriors always use energy blasts.
During the fight, King Piccolo can lower Goku’s health by throwing lots of energy blasts at him. Then Goku can reach a new level

When Goku reaches that level he can show King Piccolo that he only needs one energy blast to destroy King Piccolo and that is the KAMEHAMEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

In the sequel Gohan should realize the honor of using the sword, because it was used by King Piccolo in the first movie. The sword can be another way of showing Gohans training. Gohan should master the sword better and faster then King Piccolo did. This will show everyone in the theater how strong Gohan is. Once Gohan masters the sword, he should reach a new level and have no use for it anymore!

blablablablablabla, I just said that you have signed in contradictions, first saying the sword separates Piccolo from Piccolo Jr (which is not so clear because why those characters are gonna be separated?) and then you said Piccolo Jr gives that sword to Gohan (… if you just said that sword makes different Piccolo from Piccolo Jr then I thought Piccolo Jr never gonna have that sword).
And about “the man makes the sword”, I´m agree, yeah. that makes the sword be UNNECESARY
because Piccolo is not a man, he was created as a supreme being, not a warrior. That´s my opinion. This movie is Dragonball, not Excalibur 
I´m not closed to new ideas, but good new ideas, this “sword” theme is not necessary, IMO. “Piccolo looks so gangsta with the sword” .. Piccolo didn´t look too evil for you? He can fry your brain using his eyes and he´s gonna use a sword ?

The theme created in this response series is the “Piccolo´s sword” specifically, people can be pleased or disgusted with Piccolo´s sword, there´s no middle point in this. I´m saying my opinion about this theme. Nothing else.
I don’t like starting rumors but someone in the OS said that Dragonball has been moved to a late summer 09 for more work.
I hope it’s not true but then again it will be better for the film.
