Why so serious, Chatwin? About the Dragon Ball. I think it’s dark for one of two reasons.

1) They didn’t put in the CGI

2) The Dragon Ball has not been activated by the presence of other Dragon Balls.

I can not believe that you all think this is going to be great!!! if you were true fans you would know that Chatwin has no business play someone like Goku. if you’re going to make a movie based on an anime do it right! I’m also pretty sure that all of the characters are asian. I’m not exited to begin with but i will be very disappointed if this move doesn’t live up to the anime.

The camera focus looks REALLY bad in this scene.

Justin Chatwin looks pretty out of character for Goku in this scene too… looks too sad and down in the dumps

I’m happy they at least gave Goku the four star, I would be pretty mad if they didn’t. Wish the Dragon Balls were a little more bright and more see through though…

Hey, Dragon Ball GT is NOT American. Its also from Japan, and from the same studios that made DB and DBZ. But yeah, its not made by Toriyama, although he was a bit involved in some things.

@DPA I would totally laugh if he does think it’s a funny lookin’ orange and tries to eat it. ROFL.

I’m kind of disappointed with the review, in the last entry. It’s like, he gathered all sorts of info that he found on this site and put it altogether and POOF one big review. I’m actually kind of neutral with the review though… i dunno if i want to say it’s fake or if it’s real regardless of what they’re known to do. I mean, I always expect a review for a movie to have all sorts of details, and a bunch of spoilers. o_O

Anyways, for the short clip. I just wish it was longer. xD I want to see more! I mostly want to see Goku get run over by Bulma though to me that would be one of the best scenes =D!

I like how the dragon ball looks — a lot more faithful to the manga/anime than it originally appeared to be in various posters, and in the expo trailer.

And while the gi is a nice re-imagining of Goku’s iconic apparel, it kind of disappoints me. The gi wasn’t supposed to be fancy-looking, made of silky material that causes it to look elaborate and expensive. It was supposed to be a practical, plain, loose-fitting gi that Roshi had lying around his old house from his yesteryears of training students. This is probably just me being quite nit picky, but I never thought of the gi as some sacred uniform for Goku to wear — just something comfortable and kind of home-made. Oh, well. XD

Oh, and I’m still reserving my opinions about the actors until I see them in the movie (or at least a full scene with dialog, etc.), but Chatwin still feels very out of place in these short clips to me. I don’ know, he just seems like some random white guy who spikes his hair with gel in the morning, like the kid from “Forbidden Kingdom” — not the Tarzan-esque Goku I know and love. XD But we shall see; don’t wanna be a Debbie Downer just yet.

Damn that was intense for a short clip. I’ll admit the ball looks different but it’s not for the worse, honestly it’s more detailed than the ones in the show.
And I the background music has to be from the movie, it just makes it 10x better

On a side note I recommend for you fans to go back and rewatch Dragonball like I’m doing, refrech some old memories. And from what I can tell so far Fox/James Wong have stayed closer to the original than I originally thought. The music from that Expo footage we got a couple weeks ago is straight from the show (with a little modification of course, kind of like what they did to the new Hulk). I’m positive there’s alot more similarities but I’ll have to watch the movie in full to see them. Honestly I can’t wait to watch it and I hope everyone here starts fseeing it the same way as I do

lol everytime a new article shows up the first 20 comments sound like fake testimonials from one of those clickbank sites……anyhow.
The true fans deal is simple. just like all the little leaked clips, the movie itself will be on the ‘net months before the actual release (japan release).
We the “tru fans or true fans or whatever” just know that the EXTENT (high school, generic-modern looks, backstory) of the “adaptations” are simply to make more money from non-fans.
As fans we have no problem watching, I myself AM PUMPED, although mainly for the CGI scenes of a decent energy beam. but i will not pay FOX due to a disagreement.
The movie could have been succesful while staying true to the BACKSTORIES, general ATMOSPHERE and PERSONALITIES of the characters, not just the NAMES, ITEMS AND FLASHY ATTACKS.
I find it insulting As a TRUE FAN, to have some hollywood dudes say the story of dragonball can’t be made complete in a movie when the movie PATH TO POWER is essentially that (10th anniversary dragonball animated movie, google up fake fan).

well anyways, i love dragon ball so i had to waste my time here saying my opinion.
so goodbye, enjoy the movie (I sure will, as a new original generic blockbuster with familiar names) and enjoy paying $6-12 for a ticket.
As for us TRUE FANS we wish the movie FISCAL failure to get the “Incredible Hulk” effect (where an adaptation movie fails, then like 5 years later a decent one is made of the same series and is good).
We only want this so someone will have the chance to make a good film that captures that Essence of each character, their atmosphere, their connections, their personalities…all missing in this movie.

I consider myself a fan, but I do things on the cheap. I read the manga for free at B&N, DVR’d the anime on TV. A true fan yada yada yada. I think a fan of DB appreciates it for what it is. You can be a fan of the movie and/or the anime. You can even be a fan of the games. I’m a fan of the story Toriyama made and its message…also a big fan of the art work for it.

@dbzforlife: I’m think Fox pushed it back a few days since April 10 is the release day of Hannah Montana, which WOULD take away from the DB movie’s opening day profits. They look to be appealing to a similar audience if not the same (no sarcasm or insults there, just being frank). It’s too much of a coincidence that they would push it back from April 8 a few months ago, then pushed it back up to April 8 when the Tony Montana movie was announced to be released the same day.

Actully beeing released on the wednsday probaly has little to do with hanah montana. Big budget movies are often release in the middle of the week if there is a holliday on the friday leading to the weekend, because that way they make more money because lots of people will still see it on opening night then again on the long weekend so its like having 2 opening nights almost. It also looks good for opening weekend figures as the film gets a couple extrea days of takings. They did the same thing for transformers which came out on a wednsday(or monday) with a public holliday on the friday.

I had faith in this movie from the beginning and when I see this clip or when a new photo comes out. My faith keeps getting stronger.

Micheal Bay in my opinion was not a good director. When I heard he was directing Transformers I was really mad. I have been a Transformers fan since I was a little kid (not a big fan of the new show though) and I though Micheal Bay was going to ruin this movie. Turns out Transformers is a blockbuster hit and I have faith in Micheal Bay for the sequel. I think Dragonball is going to be James Wong’s Transformers. @Mikey: Well he looked like a hobo after filming I think for that movie S. Darko. Maybe he’s in the reshoots, or not. Is it just me or is his hair turning gray. He’s only 26. It could be the lighting. Doesn’t look like he’s been working out though, lol. So I doubt he’d be anywhere near buff if they stuck him in DBZ.

@Bucky-O-Hare: lol, I said the same thing when the first photos of him in the movie came out.

@Team Venture: You’d be better off making your own if you know how to sew or know someone who does. Replicas are usually made out of really crappy material. That’s what I did when I had a replica Sith outfit made (won $50 in a Halloween costume contest for it too).

@Diogo: The Matrix fighting style is very different from DB and should remain. However, they will be identical for the movie, especially the Mai vs Chi Chi fight.

No matter my personal feelings about the upcoming movie, I gotta say thanks to Adam for always having great updates. With FOX being so stingy about promotion, it’s good to know that we can get news and views here, whether good or bad.

So thanks, Adam, for making me waffle on my determination to keep my hopes for this flick low so I won’t be so disappointed later. I’m still not particularly excited because a lot of the leaked plot info just makes me shake my head, but even in the faux trailer had its good points. You can tell that the physical fights will be fun, what with all the corkscrewing in midair, if nothing else. And we all know the visual effects will be spectacular.

And, while I still have no clue if Chatwin will nail the Goku part or not, I’ve recently become more sure of his acting ability. If nothing else, the kid’s got the chops to bring SOMETHING to the role. I’m not even worried about him looking so serious all the time. Hello, Raditz. Hello, Frieza. Hello, Majin Buu. He always puts on his game face. It’s just usually after he’s already marched onto the field and been roughed up a bit.

Seriously. What saiyan wants to come out of a fight without a scratch? What good is a battle without the scars to prove it? Heh.

Ahem. Sorry. Anyway, while I still have grave misgivings, this site seems to be something like a train wreck for me. No matter how much I want to look away from the gore — high school, Piccolo’s skin, whatever the heck they did to Goku’s hair — I just can’t help staring in sick fascination. *snicker* Thanks, Adam. Honostly who here actually likes Justin Chatwin and thinks he’s going to play a really good Goku? I really think he’s going to do a good job, people keep hating on the fact he got cast but why? I know he’s an up and coming actor but this is a role he can make a name for himself in and when he does that I’m just going to tell all the haters I told you so. @Bucky-O-Hare: Actually, the Dragon Ball manga/anime is based off the life of Justin Chatwin. Akira Toriyama just renamed Justin Chatwin Goku for the manga adaptation so he wouldn’t get sued since he didn’t have the rights at the time.

im prety sure I know what your talking about, its not realy a secret or anything lol,
cant say im a fan of the compisition of it though, From what I can tell Labnash1 has design skills but hasnt had any formal training(uni, college) in design. Or maybe he is at college at the moment:), But it looks nice just too much in it and the 2 images clash with each other rather than compliment. there realy isnt a main focal piont in the image and the eyes tend to get confused and not know where to look. But the colours are good in it and its a nice text, but I would prefer for it not to wrap.
I like to live by the rules that the designer gods put in place long ago

But yea thats just my opinion I think everyone will ike it so it doesnt matter:)

I think that Gi that is shown in the slip is actually Gohan’s gi, because if you look at some of the finished shots of chatwin it is much darker in color…now this could be post production color saturization, however if he finds it right after he finds the dragonball, it stands to reason that it’s Gohan’’s since given the timeline, he hasnt met Roshi yet.

Also I cannot fucking wait for this movie…since 1999 (when i first watched it) all ive cared about was seeing a Kamehameha Wave done on the silver screen, Chatwin is perfect, Piccolo looks waaaay more sinister, and the fact that the score is so epic it makes vegeta crap his spandex, i say this movie will be King come april!!! and you can quote me on that

I saw the entire documentary of NHK.

That little clip is the only thing about DB particulary there.

But they talk about differences of hollywood/american way and japanese way to make cartoon/anime in general.

Hollywood is creating ASTOBOY in CG.
But in this case, everything must be aproved by the japanese astroboy’s copyright owner.
Even the Son of Tezuka Osamu must aprove.

The first design of astroboy presented for the japanese shocked them..
(I went shocked too)…
That was Horrible..

And the person of the studio didn’t understand why japanese didn’t like..

But they are working together..
That’s my hope..

In case of DB It’s all on Hollywood hands..
They will do anything they want to do…

I think that this movie will be good because I heard that they put Kamehameha in it and that the guy who does the voice acting of Vegeta will do Shenron in the movie. This clip is only little, but when the real movie comes out, there’ll be better sound affects and audio; plus it’s produced by the guy who acted Kung Fu Hustle, so I’m sure that it won’t be bad.

if u think about it..he shudnt even have that gi Yet..cuz when he faught with King/Lord Piccolo he was only a kid..and he only wore that redish orange gi…and then in the Piccolo Jr. Saga THATS when he gets the gi with the blue t-shirt and orange gi,wristband, and boots..and if u remember that the blue t-shirt,wristband, and boots were specially made with weight in them..sort of a gift from Kame and Mr.Popo, NOT from Grandpa Gohan or whoever he got it from in this clip..thats another thing they got wrong with this movie..there are over 50 things wrong with this movie..everytime i look at the pictures or read about this movie i always see another thing thats wrong with it..and it just gets worse and only 2 things they have right in this movie that resembles dragon ball at all is the names..and maybe the dragon balls..im not even sure about the dragon balls either..maybe next time ill make a list of all the things that wrong with this movie..lol
