Plansiete.com has a video interview with Jonay Bacallado, a concept artist for Dragonball. You can watch the interview (in Spanish) here, or read a translation (thanks to Jonathan Martinez) below.
Narrator: His latest project has entered a whole new realm of difficult creativity, It involves the diversion of the reality of the dragonball series. His ambition was to give the characters a “new look” than in the manga, while still keeping the spirit of it in tact.
Jonay: This is one of those projects where the artist already has a reference to look off of; my job was not as big as that of say, the producer, because I already had a reference to expand from. To tell you the truth, It was really complicated, we had so much work to do to redesign every character to get them to where they’re at now.
Art removed by request of creator.
I have to ask you to please remove this information, because the images shown are mine, no one has asked for authorization, and most importantly, because it may lead people and Dragon Ball fans to think this is actual concept art, but it’s not. They are part of my personal artwork.

We were sent a new photo today, which we’re told is of Piccolo (James Marsters) in a pre-green state. Supposedly he evolves throughout the movie, and at one point becomes greener. It looks like his wardrobe also evolves.

IGN’s Brian Linder has a write-up on the live-action movie, which is basically just a rundown of facts and rumors that we’ve come across previously. Still, though, it’s an informative article for those of you who haven’t been following the movie. Here’s an excerpt:
A purported Dragonball trailer was leaked a while back which left some franchise faithful scratching their heads. That preview, we’ve learned, was merely a promotional video made for licensing purposes and does not necessarily properly represent the final version of the film.
Sure, Piccolo may not be totally green-skinned — we hear he turns a green-ish tint near the end of the film — and that leaked Goku “monster form” pic (that we can’t show you) was somewhat awkward — but it’s still several months away from the expected release date. And a movie like this is at least half-made in post-production.
We don’t think it’s a bad thing that Fox delayed the movie — it was originally set for an August 2008 release — to ensure that there’s enough time for proper tweaking. Reshoots of the flick are reportedly being done.
The officially released promotional stills all look pretty cool, so we’ll remain cautiously optimistic. A legit trailer should be arriving before the end of the year.

We’ve got another Justin Chatwin (Goku) photo to share with you today. But, unlike the last one, it’s not very controversial. In it, we see Goku eating a drumstick… in his usual, non-monster self.

We’ve received a photo from an anonymous source, which is said to be of Goku in “monster” form. Whether or not the photo is of the finished product or an unfinished one is unknown, but we’re guessing the latter is the case.
- Removed by request of Fox -
UPDATE: It looks like our guess was correct. The photo was not of the finished product but rather a test.
