All About Dragonball
Nov 10th, 2008
IGN’s Brian Linder has a write-up on the live-action movie, which is basically a rundown of facts and rumors that we’ve come across previously. Still, though, it’s an informative article for those of you who haven’t been following the movie. Here’s an excerpt:
A purported Dragonball trailer was leaked a while back which left some franchise faithful scratching their heads. That preview, we’ve learned, was merely a promotional video made for licensing purposes and does not necessarily properly represent the final version of the film.
Sure, Piccolo may not be totally green-skinned — we hear he turns a green-ish tint near the end of the film — and that leaked Goku “monster form” pic (that we can’t show you) was somewhat awkward — but it’s still several months away from the expected release date. And a movie like this is at least half-made in post-production.
We don’t think it’s a bad thing that Fox delayed the movie — it was originally set for an August 2008 release — to ensure that there’s enough time for proper tweaking. Reshoots of the flick are reportedly being done.
The officially released promotional stills all look pretty cool, so we’ll remain cautiously optimistic. A legit trailer should be arriving before the end of the year.

Seeing as IGN is a subsidiary of News Corp (The owners of Fox). Fox is probably getting ready to start the official marketing campaign (promotion) for this film. Hopefully the trailer is in fact released on December 12th to kick start the official “Dragonball” The Movie promotion.

Lord Jaric:
Little bit yeah
@Doritos: If it doesn’t come out by the end of this year, I will bash Fox’s marketing department, saying they should be replaced with Warner Bros.
@Doritos: Your right it may come out earlier…
The more people who know about this movie the better. More people=more box office movie $. Oh yeah, bring on the promotion! Thanks for the news.
THE STORY:
20th Century Fox has yet to release a detailed plot synopsis, but we’ve been able to piece together some important bits and pieces of the story.
We know that the film centers on Goku, a high school-aged misfit who is trained in the martial arts by his grandfather, Gohan. But when Gohan is mortally injured by fighters who serve the evil Lord Piccolo, his dying wish is that Goku collect all seven dragonballs, mystical orbs of great power, before they can be used to destroy the Earth.
Goku sets out to find the esteemed Master Roshi, who can help him in his quest, and is befriended by a beautiful young woman named Bulma who, it just so happens, possesses a device that can locate the dragonballs.
The rest of the story is still somewhat fuzzy, but we know that Goku encounters Piccolo twice. And we’ve learned that the film’s final act may be set around a global martial arts competition.
nice news adam. atleast fox answerd that piccolo will not be actually in green.
dude warner bro will fuck up the movie even more look wut they did with the dark knight batman’s custom was fucking lame couldnt even see his logo on his chest….
@Miguel:
please tel me you are just trying to be a troll
no im not hating is jst that i really dont trust warner bros with super hero movies seriouslly…. they never stay true to the comics superman returns sucked and ima big fan of superman…. but dragonball is kind of true to the anime and kind of not its in btween
@Adam: What your predictions on how Dragonball will make on opening weekend and worldwide?
@Miguel:
Since when does something have to stay true to the source in order to be a good movie.
@Adam: i am more favor that warner bros much better than fox. in the other hand if warner bros gonna make DB movie we will have much higher expectations. anyway keep up the good work adam i hope u will post real kicking ass DB picture like KAME HAME HA:) or unexpected scene:)
i hope somehow for a short time klilyn will appear from the movie
at jaric well makes the movie better but yea ur right but dont u agree that at least they should stay true to at least one character or sumthin?
man!!there are ALOT of haters bashing the db movie in ign, i was looking at the comments they were posting
it pisses me off seeing all of those hate commments, about the movie
Not news but okayy

@ bermy well they said b4 the year is over hopefully its true
fox just needs to take more risks with their movies like they did back in the day starwars, aliens
@ walsh but y do they have to take risk for?
blehh same old stuff
@Craig: Oh! So that explains why the author was acting the way he was. Makes sense now. BTW, IGN posts OLD news all the time.
old stuff like wut?
not really news but thanx anyway.
I just hope the new reshoots would include Krillin. By the way, has there ever been official confirmation of Krillin being in the movie or not? o_O
well does it matter as long as we get some news about dragonball hehehe
well thats good to kno i agree with luufie i hope krillin ia added to the film
@Walsh: That was back before they were run by Tom Rothman, who’s philosophy is the ‘tried-and-true’ formula of making the most dumbed-down action PG-13 movies. If they were run by whoever they were run by back then, I think things might be a lot different.
hmmm nope no news about krilling not latelly anyways last i heard they said he wasnt gonna be in the movie but who knows
@Adam: If they don’t show it by the end of the year im going to be soooo freakin’ pissed!! I’ll probably turn into a super saiyan if they don’t show it….

Here is the link
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1098327/
@http://www.myspace.com/coreywilson10: I don’t know, probably fake it’s IMDB….

YES PLEASE PROMOTE THE MOVIE, FOX. WE’RE BEGGING YOU!

@Adam the Dragon: Thanks for responding boss!! I’ll call you when im ready to make my other 2 wishes. Now go back inside of the Dragonballs!!
@Mikey: It better be over 100 minutes or im going to be pissed!! I can’t stand short movies

Dragonball is known for it’s long Sagas
FOX please make Dragonball over 100 minutes and make it epic like Star Wars!!!!!!!!
I’m not asking for much
It would be nice to get confirmation of IGN for Chris Sabbat as Shenron…
i hope the trailer shows goku using the kamehameha wave that would be really asome
dudes im getting every day more and more excitet……….cant wait anymore
i know almost everyone sad it before but fox please as a over 15 years tru db/z(gt was crap) fan im baggin ya guys dont let us wait that lon.
i realy think we diserv it…
bad english i know and im sorry lol
i wonder if their going to blow up a lot of stuff in this movie
hey Luufie,
there is a rummor that, in the movie krillin will die in the begining of the movie, and gets wished back at the end, becasue this movie is about the “lord piccolo” saga meaning the previous sagas in the anime already happened…and in the anime, krillin does die at the begining of the piccollo saga on the DB anime, and gets wished back in the piccollo jr. saga.
Dannydoom: i hope thats true.
and if he is wished back to life in the end of the movie that means that he wil be in the sequal
I think we would all be extremely satisfied if in the trailer there is at least 10 secs of goku eating
IGN + Causiously Optimistic = a bad sign.
@notfordbmovie:
true to that
and if this movie is 100mins its no good, it should be at least 2 hours long otherwise it will be just another kung-fu movie
Tru fans of DB are not going to like this movie but fans of DB are goin to like it and random people are gonna like it.
Why did i say that….simple
Transformers tru fans hate transformers the movie fans of transformers like the movie random people like transformers….. i’m a fan of TF soo i liked it. So these called “HATERS” are not hating the movie, they are are tru fans who like DB for wat it is and are not HAPPY wioth the STUPID changes…… I GTTA ADMIT I HATE SOME OF THE CHANGES TOO especially the HALF-MAN HALF-FISH Oozaru. THATS THE WORST OF ALL CHANGES!!!!!!
Dun Dun Dun
BlackGuy OUT! !
@BlackGuy:
And it’s a family FILM…… Transformers wasn’t intentionally a family film but it WAS A SICK ASS FILM n Numba 2 will b EVEN SICKER
@NoOne: True. If this movies running time is only 90 minutes or less apparantly, and seeing how the story is and such, it would have to move very fast. And depending on how much of a factor the story telling is done, and if the highschool element is too much, I cannot see how they can get in enough action for that time frame, and have it evenly paced enough. I mean, ive seen plenty of action movies done within 90 minutes, but it usually has action right off the bat with story sprinkled through out that pulls the movie together.
But it seems like the movie starts out story, then turns action. Or explaining much of the story first, action, then more story, then more action. I can see it working like that, but even then it would be pretty poor pacing, and it just seems like the movie will not have enough action.
It would have to be something like Cloverfields progression, only more rapid than that. Because Dragonballs action has to be consistant, if it lags too much between fights, it can be exciting one minute, then a total drag with pointless dialogue waiting for the next scene to be better. Like Spiderman 3. Waiting for Peter to stop Emo dancing and get to more web slinging was absolute torture.
Or like the Godzilla remake. Waiting to see more Godzilla, but you have to suffer through the horrible dialogue and pointless scenes and hope that the movie gets better.
@NoOne: Ive been paying attention to TFRoTF. And that movie will be way better than the first by a wide margin. Constructicons + that animation =
@NoOne: Also, ive been on IGN a long time, and I how they work. I know how biased they can be, but I know when they are being honest too. And given IGNs history of being….well…. IGN, I know causious optimism is not a good sign from them at all. And their comments were not really positive if you read it. They have a wait and see approach, which is smart.
But usually I know when IGN is excited about something, you can see when they post positive thoughts and feelings on things they like, and you can tell when they are not really that excited, or are just waiting for more.
But given the material that’s been revealed so far, and who knows if theyve seen anything since they are on the “inside”, they just don’t seem very pleased, or very excited at all for this movie. So, well have to wait and see more as time goes by.
I can’t see DB as a FAMILY FILM…… No JUST CAN’T see it! !
wow….you can’t see DB as a family film, when in fact the original manga was written for little kids.
you must be really stupid
@SGA:
the PICCOLO SAGA DUDE…. DON”T call me STUPID
i’m watchin the piccolo saga right NOW sooo you know don’t be an IDIOT …… ITE….?
hey,
The Meister……if this movie does well, they have planned 4 dragonball z movies. and krillin has to show up in this movie or the next, becasue his death triggered gokus transformation into a super saiyan…and guys, this move has to be a family film, becasue if u look at the anime, it has good morals and shit and lessons. it was a family anime, it got serious in DBZ, and another thing, Master Roshi is serious in this movie becasue he was serious in thr piccolo sage, becasue he knew who piccolo was. he was rarely funny in the lord piccolo saga. just fyi h hahahaha
ok and…..as for the Oozaru pic of goku, its already been anounced that its not a final product, its mid- transformation, his Gi would not fit anymore if he was full size or even 8 feet tall. and most people are confussed about the place of the movie, its in the lord piccolo saga(a spacific saga), meaning chances are that Tien and the others are already in existence in the film, just not seen, and just refered to until DBZ. and goku hides his tail under his pants, becasue in the first 15 min of the film he is in highschool, which im fine with becasue even spiderman had a school scene. thismovie will be well done, it captures gokus sense of curiosity and destraction and humour, liek for instance “there is a scene when Chi Chi runs to goku, but he is destracted by a hot dog vendor, lol”.
the fight coriographers are the guys who did the matrix, so u know there will be some sweet fighting. and we all saw a DBZ movie coming when we saw :Matrix Revolutions”, hahahaha.
@Dannydoom: i hope krillin is in the sequel but let’s be honest it’s not just krillin that triggered the super saiyan transformation it was the combination of vegeta’s death, piccolo’s near death, krillin’s death, the stress of the fight and the fact that they can’t be wished back a second that rerally triggered goku’s transformation
yeah, true that dj, people get mixed ideas from watching the leaked trailer. but tha ttrailer was only meant for the toy companies. a real trailer would also look more spectacular, im suprissed no one got that by now. the triler diddnt show key points in the movie and the sound effects were fake, expect a better trailer in december. u can kinda tell its fake when they show a scene of chi chi and show mai instead, and never even mention chi chi eventhough she is a main character in the movie, lol.
Any1 See the update on the oozaru pic??
@NoOne: dude, i’m sorry, my little brother got on here and messed w/ my account. Whenever i get on here, i don’t bother erasing my screen name or email address because i’m usually the only one from my family who goes here, so he must have logged in as me. I apologize.
And here is the FULL article…
IGN staff member Brian Linder has written up a full summary of news/rumors concerning the upcoming Dragonball film. It basically takes you through the casted characters, crew, behind the scenes and gives their opinion and facts with each summary. Read the article below.
Are you ready to see the legend come to life? Based on Akira Toriyama’s Japanese manga, and the wildly popular anime series spawned by it, 20th Century Fox is bringing Dragonball to the big screen this April for the first time in live-action.
The long-awaited movie version centers around Goku, of course, and will trace his life’s journey and the quest to find the legendary Dragonballs before they can be used by the villainous Lord Piccolo. Actor Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds, Taken) is Goku and James Marsters (Spike from Buffy/Angel) plays Piccolo.
Fans of the franchise have been waiting a long time for this movie. Fox first picked up the rights to the series back in 2002. Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 10,000 B.C.) was rumored to be directing early on, but the film fell off the studio’s priority list and it lay dormant for some time. It was 2004 when Fox began to pay the property some attention again, hiring a screenwriter. But even then the movie wasn’t put on the fast track. The “ball” didn’t really get rolling until director James Wong (Final Destination) was signed in late ‘07.
Dragonball devotees in the U.S. will still have to wait until April 8 to see the flick — or if you really want to see it badly, you can travel to Japan where it opens a whole month earlier — but we hope to tide you over with this preview.
Here’s what to expect when you walk into the theater…
CAST & CHARACTERS:
Justin Chatwin as Goku: Chatwin is best known to audiences for his roles as Tom Cruise’s son in War of the Worlds and as the lead in David Goyer’s The Invisible. Chatwin, who may not be as bulky as Goku in some parts of the series, has the right basic look. And, yes, his hair is not nearly as big as his cartoon counterpart, but wouldn’t it look ridiculous if it were done any other way? Chatwin has reportedly trained with stunt performance company 87Eleven (The Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy) to prepare for his fight scenes in Dragonball.
Goku is immensely strong, pure of heart, extremely competitive, not inordinately bright, but dedicated wholeheartedly to the cause of beating the living hell out of evil. In the established lore, Goku grew up on Earth and appears more or less human, but is a specimen of the alien warrior race of Saiyans, who originally sent him to the planet to prepare it for conquest. A coincidental knock on the head cleared his mind of his natural inclination towards global domination, though – instead, he eventually chose to become the planet’s greatest champion.
Emmy Rossum as Bulma: This singer-actress first came to audiences’ attention as Sean Penn’s doomed daughter in Mystic River before she captured the lead role of “Christine” in the big-screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Phantom of the Opera. Her other credits include Poseidon and The Day After Tomorrow. In a December 2007 posting at her MySpace blog, Rossum wrote that Bulma is “so different than any role I’ve ever played. I love the character and I’m excited to get to share something so fun with you. In prep for the film I’ve been training very hard, learning how to fight, fire a gun, weapons training and even some martial arts. It’s fun to play such a different character when I am such a pacifist in real life.”
Rossum blogged in January, “I’ve been listening to some harder music to access the edge inside me to bring to the character, some Linkin Park and Dream Theater. I’m enjoying developing the character and training, learning to ride a motorcycle has been thrilling.”
Any crew of heroes needs a good gadgeteer, and that’s Bulma’s job in the franchise’s universe. The heir to the massive Capsule Corporation, she creates all kinds of inventions to aid her friends in their fight to defend Earth and otherwise beat up on evil. In her younger days, she built such handy devices as the Dragon Radar, which she used to detect and hunt down the seven dragonballs. (Her plan was to wish for the perfect man to spend her life with.) Her quest was what first introduced her to Goku, after which the two quickly became fast friends.
It was originally thought that Rossum would be sporting a blue wig to appear more like her anime counterpart, but that does not appear to be the case given the glimpses of the flick that we’ve seen.
James Marsters as Lord Piccolo: Most famous for his role as “Spike” on the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Marsters has since played Prof. Milton Fine, a.k.a. Braniac, on Smallville and Detective Grant Mars on Without a Trace.
We don’t know for certain, but we expect that the movie version will adhere to established lore in which Piccolo is an alien, a traveler from the distant planet Namek who comes to Earth on a mission of conquest.
Piccolo possesses a huge variety of superhuman abilities, far beyond mere strength and speed. He can regenerate almost any part of his body, divide himself into multiple smaller forms, use a fusion technique to temporarily join with other beings, and that’s just the start of his laundry list of powers. His signature ability is the Masenko-Ha, or “demon wave.”
Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi: Chinese superstar Chow Yun-Fat is best known to Western audiences for his roles in The Killer, Hard-Boiled, A Better Tomorrow and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He most recently appeared as Captain Sao Feng in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
In the manga and anime, Roshi mentored both Goku and his grandfather Gohan. Roshi is a wise old martial arts master, as well as the series’ oddball comic relief. Roshi lives at the Kame house, which is situated on a deserted island. Incidentally, it’s been reportedly that Roshi will not be a pervy old man in this version — this is a family film, people!
Jamie Chung as Chi-Chi: This waitress-turned-actress first gained notice as a cast member of MTV’s The Real World: San Diego before landing a brief stint on the soap Days of Our Lives. She also starred in the ABC Family mini-series Samurai Girl. You might also remember, and for good reason, Jamie as the Hooters girl from I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
Chung’s film career seems set to take off as she’s following Dragonball with a role in the slasher film remake, Sorority Row.
In the movie, Chi-Chi is Goku’s childhood friend, who has more than friendly feelings towards him. If you’re familiar with the established lore, you will rightly expect that Chi-Chi and Goku may have a romantic relationship that blossoms in the movie.
Joon Park as Yamcha: Although Dragonball marks his largest Hollywood movie role to date, this South Korean singer-actor made a brief appearance in last summer’s Speed Racer.
Leaked casting descriptions obtained by CHUD bill Yamcha as “the bad boy who has no trouble attracting women.” In fact, sparks fly between he and Bulma. But only after Yamcha turns from his devious ways and becomes the group’s ally in the quest for the dragonballs. Yamcha will probably drive his tricked-out truck with countless gear hooked up to it for assisting in every possible situation.
Randall Duk Kim as Gohan: The Matrix Reloaded actor plays the elderly Gohan in Dragonball. The kindly Gohan found Goku when he first arrived on Earth and served as his first instructor in martial arts.
Eriko Tamura as Mai: This Japanese actress is familiar to U.S. audiences for her role as “Yaeko” on Heroes. Although Mai was one of Emperor Pilaf’s cronies in the manga and anime series, she will serve as Piccolo’s sexy, yet deadly chief henchwoman in the movie. The character is also a shapeshifter.
Ernie Hudson as Master Muitaito: Ernie Hudson, whom you’ll remember from Ghostbusters, The Crow, and HBO’s Oz, is thought to be playing Master Muitaito, perhaps in flashback scenes. There’s been some confusion about his role, and it’s not been officially announced, but Hudson told Dragonball Movie Blog that his character is Chow Yun-Fat’s master. We can read between the lines. Muitaito was responsible for the imprisonment of Lord Piccolo centuries before the main events of the film.
BEHIND THE SCENES:
James Wong is directing the live-action Dragonball movie — he also brushed up the script while taking the reins. You may know him best as one half of the Morgan and Wong writing duo, who gained notoriety while working on The X-Files. Wong directed Final Destination and returned for that film’s second sequel, Final Destination 3. He also helmed Jet Li’s 2001 actioner, The One. Wong directed the remakes of Willard, that creepy Crispin Glover flick, and Black Christmas.
The story’s basic elements are, of course, pulled from the manga by Akira Toriyama, but the bulk of the screenplay was written by Ben Ramsey. Remember that movie from the late ’90s called The Big Hit, with Lou Diamond Phillips and Mark Wahlberg? Yeah, he wrote that. He also wrote Love and a Bullet, starring Naughty by Nature’s Treach. Ramsey is also adapting Luke Cage for the screen.
Stephen Chow, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, and CJ7 is producing Dragonball. It’s the first movie that Chow, an actor-turned-director, has worked on exclusively in a producing capacity.
Robert MacLachlan, who has worked with Wong a number of times before, is the cinematographer.
The movie’s music is being created by Brian Tyler (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem). Bruton Jones (Underworld) serving as production designer, Patricio M. Farrell (Right at Your Door) as art director, and Mayes C. Rubeo (Apocalypto) as costume designer.
Effects are being supervised by frequent Wong collaborator Ariel Shaw — he also worked on 300.
Practical effects were handled by Amalgamated Dynamics — the shop who worked on the Spider-Man films, and computer-generated visual effects duties are being split among Imagine Engine, Ollin Studios, and Zoic Studios.
Finally, the all-important costume creation is being handled by Ironhead Studios. They created the getups for the X-Men sequels and Zack Snyder’s upcoming Watchmen adaptation, so it should be in good hands. Then again, they also have the unenviable distinction of having created the costumes for Joel Schumacher’s Batman movies. We’re certain, however, that there aren’t nipples on Goku’s outfit.
In addition to filming at the Los Angeles studio, Dragonball was shot on location in Mexico — the movie’s architecture will have Aztec influences in addition to the overall Asian vibe.
PARTING SHOTS:
A legit trailer should be arriving before the end of the year
Fox says the leaked Oozaru image are just a ‘test’ and not the final design that will be seen in theaters on April 8th, 2009
@SGA
How is Dragonball/Z for little Kids? Have you seen the original? They have nude things, cursing, and sexual humor. Not to mention violence involving impalement, bodies cut off, beheading, and most of all blood.
Maybe you have mistaken it for the sugar-coated dub version in America.
@Goku…in case you haven’t read my previous posts….it was my little brother posing as me, i know just how bad it can be. and in fact, i thoroughly enjoy the uncut versions.
Okay that’s awesome that you know. It’s just some people out there actually think it is too kiddie like Pokemon when in fact they haven’t seen the original version. Maybe you can tell your little bro that it isn’t kiddie.
@Goku: Well, to speak the truth…Dragonball(Z) “IS” a kid show. In Japan the rating system is different then the U.S., they can get a way with things. But DB(Z) is really for kids, Like 8 to 12 year olds!
96th
sweet, we already know all this stuff
@SGA:
koolkool
@BlackGuy:
Man you haters don’t know nothing!! Must I explain everything to you guys?
A hater is not a true fan, look up the meaning before you embarass yourself!!
True=firm in allegiance; loyal; faithful; steadfast; sincere; not deceitful; accurate; correct
Fan=an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc
Hate=to dislike intensely or passionately
Hater=One who hates.
Now tell me does hate have anything to do with being a True fan? NO!!!!
For the people who says there is no True fan. Your incorrect!!
You can be a true fan, because it’s almost like having a true friend.
A true friend isn’t deceitful or doesn’t show intense dislike. They are sincere and faithful!
Yo Stop Hatting…
I really hope that the movie is longer than 100 min.
100 Coments
DB The Movie ;D
ya, i hope this means official promo will start up soon.
@Mikey: where fox say this ???
ALL I WANT TO SEE IS A OFFICIAL TRAILER!!
IV HAD ENOUGH OF THESE SHITTY ARTICLES TELLING US THINGS WE ALREADY KNOW!
GOD DAMN IT, I JUST WANT SOME FOOTAGE!
well, that revies spoke my mind…being cautiously optimistic, since things seem to be going through a nice path…We’ll need to watch the trailer at least to get a more detailed explanation…
Man, i can’t wait!!! I need to see the trailer, desperately…i would trade my left nut for it, lol…
Errr…by “revies” i meant “review” and by “explanation” i meant opinion …sorry, my boss was passing by…
Hmmm….
interessante…
oh shit…
i wrote in portuguese…xD
Hater = DB Fan who don´t like how the Movie looks. They know that a lot of changes are unnecesary. In extreme cases is a Pure Loyalty to TORIYAMA story.
The “Others” (How can I call them? Lovers? xD?) = DB Fans who like and support the movie, even knowing a lot of changes are unnecesary. Most of the cases putting those “MADE IN WONG” changes over TORIYAMA story.
@DPA: But what fans are called if they want to see the movie very badly, but don’t like all the unnecessarily changes?
@Kinglame
MMM That could be a fusion between Shivereled member J and coreywilson xD
Corey-J
@DPA: I just want to know. I really badly want to see this flick, but that doesn’t mean I’m all up with the unnecessarily changes 20th Fox made. Like:
-High-school/Party Scene
-Chi-Chi the “it” girl

goku2222: 2009 year of the dragon when our wishes will come true on april
@kinglame:
There´s a lot of more changes behind them. The simple look of Roshi has been modified in a terrible and misunderstood way. Krillin is not in the movie, and adding Krillin in the end could it be worse.
Blue pants on Goku´s orange gi, his light brown hair. Yeah, those things are irrelevant, butthey are unnecesary changes too, aren´t they? Why Yamcha uses clairol and Goku didn´t use black clairol and contact eyes (When he turn into SSJ there could be not so much difference
@kinglame:
Just want to say that the ‘no perv roshi’ isn’t strictly true because in the gallary’s you can see roshi is wearing an anime beach girl posing on his shirt. This allows the movie to relate to the fans which know roshi as a bit of a perv whilst keeping it family friendly, especially if it is going to be a family film; basically its trying to relate to all watchers
@BlackGuy: your an idiot, “tru fans”? wtf is that shit? so if people like the look of this film they are not real fans? thats bullshit, the people who like this film are realists, we know its happening the way it is and we are accepting it, unlike these haters whoes biggest concern in theirs lives is that a movie is not being 100% faithful to the source material. seriously, get a life. if you are so anti-dbmovie then why the fuck are you reading all the news about it? its like spending all your time in toys r us telling people how shit barbie dolls are coz you dont like them… they dont give a fuck what you think!
Yeah maybe they are toning the perv old man down to fit in this family film…
@DPA: im sure they can come up with better effects than bleach for gokus super sayian hair. fuck you
Cant Wait.
ANd The thing about the oozaru pic
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vzkzWYpk-lQ
@that guy :
Yeah, maybe a SSJ gets a sword
Why that fuck you?
@DPA:
DPA it seems like you don’t understand nothing i’m telling you. Why must I repeat myself over and over again?
DPA you are not a true fan if you show strong dislike. A fan has faith and doesn’t hope for the worst. If you really like the show, but don’t support the movie then tell me why are you still here?

READ THE TITLE ABOVE!!
What does it say?????
It says “DRAGONBALL THE MOVIE”
If you are here to bash it, then your here for all the wrong reasons.
If you are excited to see a live action movie, but don’t like what FOX is doing to it, then tell Fox how they can make it better without being hateful or erasing there vision for the movie. Hope for the best instead of the worst.
If you was a fan of Dragonball/Z/GT, you would show FOX how to make it better. If you didn’t like how the monster turned out, all you had to do was tell FOX how they can make it better. Instead you got idiots coming here being racist, hateful, and saying epic fail. How is that helping??
All your doing is flamming the franchise that you claim you like.
The only people I see making the franchise look bad is the haters….
There is always a solution to everything. This movie could prove you wrong and turn out epic. You’ll never know until you see it!!
You show little faith DPA. All you see is failure, because that’s what you want.
You can disagree and still be a fan, but how are you a fan when you say Goku is asian?
How are you a fan when you say this movie sucks?
Your acting childish!!
You want things to go your way, but to tell you the truth it can’t!! WHY? It’s not your story!!
It is Akira story!! Akira passed his legacy down to FOX to make it into a live action movie.
He didn’t give it to you so don’t try to act selfish and make a protest site.
Akira was just kind enough to share it with us!! So be grateful instead of hateful.
If you want things to go your way then why don’t you make your own movie??
I don’t know about you, but i’m excited to see Dragonball come to life and I can’t wait to see James Wong vision of Dragonball.
Oh yeah!!
I would never fuse with Shriveled member J
Why? It’s impossible, because he would want us to be 100% CGI
o god it starts again, all people here , fuck you…no fuck you, only fuck………………..guys listen here
dont fight again, haters and not haters just calm down, we are all nervouse but be patient,
1-roshi will be a little pervert
2-goku is amazing(he is the main actor so if he is amazing the movie will be amazing)
3- i like the new bulma
4-the actor that play yamcha is like yamcha, he is fantastic
5-the pictures of the oozaru, maybe he will be giant and with cgi he will be amazing
6-i like picolo with sword, a villain without his sword is not a villain
7-chi chi looks fine, and mai too
8-fox said that picolo will be more green
9-the story is the same as the anime
10-the high school topic(i like this idea , please just imagine a 18 boy that he isnt in school, he will be an idiot, and i like that goku is more inteligent that usually)
10 things that the movie is like the anime, ………………so what the hell the haters are complaining again?????? haters i mention 10 things that the movie is like the anime so why you complain again about the movie??? all haters are just retard

DRAGON BALL RULEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
and http://armando254.skyrock.com/
THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO SUCK here’s why: 1. Why the hell aren’t they showing that leeked photo I mean it’s just a photo so they STILL should show it. 2. What’s the deal with them in high school it’s just like the first “Spider-Man”. 3. The trailer lookes like it’s going to be another crappy film.
@dbzforlife: It’s just a picture it’s not like they are really going to have that in there
What’s the deal with all this true fan garbage
@www.myspace.com/coreywilson10:
Wow, so much text
First, leave that “True fan” thing. You r a fan and I too, and 99.9% of people at here is DB fan. But one part likes the movie, and the another part doesn´t. This site is neutral , I think.
I send messages to Fox, years ago. A lot of fans surely did the same, Now, sending messages? It is too late for that. fox is paying for its mistakes.
When I said my opinion I talk about the movie, not about the glorious Franchise (The manga, the anime). Honestly, I think this movie can hurt the franchise.
I said I hope for the real, I stopped to hope for the best months ago. I realise that defending the changes i would be putting them over the original.
And I think you´re afraid of haters. Learn from people who says “ignore haters”. But you´re afraid that those people (hater or not) tells the truth about the movie, about the changes.
You said once “The trailer must not show the highschool scens” why? to hide the truth about the movie? to lie to people?
I just give my opinion. Not saying “Don´t watch the movie” I don´t have that power, neither authority, you neither have autorithy to tell me if I must post at this site or not.
See ya
Who knows if this film is going to be either a work of genius or a piece of garbage, however the only thing we can do is wait and see
Fingers crossed its going to be awesome so they can make more, however if it is pants well…in another 5 years time someone else will remake it and then that should normally straighten a film out
Yeah, superman trilogy is gonna be remade and re-started
.
Hulk is another case but I liked the Ang Lee version, very lyric.
@goku2222
1-roshi will be a little pervert
Right, that s not irrelevant, but he doesn´t look physycally in anything like Roshi
2-goku is amazing(he is the main actor so if he is amazing the movie will be amazing)
… I didn´t understand that reason.
3- i like the new bulma
Me too. The look is good
4-the actor that play yamcha is like yamcha, he is fantastic
mmm It´s supposed that Yamcha was afraid to meet women. Would he be like yamcha?
5-the pictures of the oozaru, maybe he will be giant and with cgi he will be amazing
Emmy said it “8 feet”. I believe that pic is in process not the final state.
6-i like picolo with sword, a villain without his sword is not a villain
understood reason… if it´s about an enemy of power rangers
Anime/manga Piccolo seems like more a supreme being, a god, than a warrior with sword.
7-chi chi looks fine, and mai too
Their stories has chaged product of the bad (to me) direction of the adaptation.
8-fox said that picolo will be more green
Mr fox didn´t say that
If FOX said it, source please.
9-the story is the same as the anime
Come on, the anime didn´t begin with Grandpa Gohan alive and death because of Piccolo.
10-the high school topic(i like this idea , please just imagine a 18 boy that he isnt in school, he will be an idiot, and i like that goku is more inteligent that usually)
And you said the story is like the anime. And btw Goku didn´t fight with Lord Piccolo being 18, he was 15. And under your criteria a good Tarzan movie must show him like a student with swimming abilities
geeez guys , stop squabbling, glad IGN spent some time to update the world on the movie, since they have a broader audience than dbthemovie.com.
great update man
It is just the same thing that our Adam has posted earlier. They’ve just said it in a different way!!
The movie doesn’t look that great from the pictures I’m see. I’ll have to find the pre-trailer and see what it looks like. Chow-Yun Fat looks nothing like Master Roshi. Even Goku doesn’t look right. Piccolo isn’t green abd definitely doesn’t look like a Namac. Looks like a guy dress up for Holloween. Bulma looks good, but how could you get her wrong? I know it’s not going to look exactly like the cartoon, but something should. Hopefully these pre photos won’t be what the finally movie looks like. They still need a lot of work from what I’ve seen so far.
With Speed Racer, they got the car and the characters right, but no the environment around them. Looks like Speed Racer crossed over to the Jetsons. With the Flintstones, they got everything right but Betty (Rosie Odonnell). They should have used another actress (who was thinner) and recorded Rosie’s laugh. That’s the only thing she got right. Mario Brothers was terrible. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had it’s good and bad films. Only Spiderman, Spawn, the 1st and 2nd Superman movies and Iron Man got it right.
warner bros i think would of killed this movie becase it would of been a cartoon i bet abd fox should start promoting
this shit is gonna be wack.
they shouldve used guellermo del toro from the hellboy movie to produce dragon ball.
im pissed.
fuck this movie, ill rather watch the cartoons.
Dude this movie better fucking live up to everyones expectations. Im expecting a very EPIC movie. And if it isnt im going to fucking hate FOX forever. They cant ruin this!!
@fuck you: are you kidding? its being produced by stephen chow, a huge db fan and the creator of shaolin soccer and fung fu hustle 2 very successful movies
hellboy wasnt even that great
According to IMDB Stephen Chow is indeed associated as a Producer of the film…………….with hits such as Kung fu hustle………….he is aware of the potential this film has……….regardless of its critical success or disturbance with the fan base………since they are obviously no longer intending on appealing to the “FORMER” fans………..this film will definitely generate 80 to 70 on opening weekend not to mention the overseas success…..depending on the Wattchmen release date……………………stephen show, why not play master roshi? Or direct the film even? Maybe he doesnt want to take responsibility or damage his prospering career?………..Fox maybe, just wants to recover the magnitude sum of money they spent/wasted,you decide, before its appeal withers….
@DPA: this movie, hurt the franchise? by what means? Dragon Ball Z, at least by my opinion, has taken enough damage already………It no longer has the same appeal…………the movie didnt even blow up until the reshoot and delay exposure took off…..Fox is just trying to recover the money they spent, which at the time may have seemed wise…………..Dranball or Dragon Ball Z for that matter was completely washed up and watered down after the extension of the buu saga and not to mention the GT series…………………..Dragon ball/Ball Z had its greatest tenure during the Sayan and Namek saga………gave cartoon network monumental ratings, the series even managed to appear on Telemundo(spanish Television)……..the decline occured after the Android saga……the series became too repetetive.plus Gohan never did succeed his father, as it always was predicted in the previous sagas…..So no the film will not do any further damage than has already been done……the rest of the world thinks the DBZ concept is sillly anyway…….us fans and our praise for over the top action/combat and Hair…..IF YOU WILL
I am new to this, but I have spent the last hour reading over the posts… you all whine too much… I have been a dedicated DragonBall fan for many years… I have all the episodes of all 3 series made (even the lost episodes of GT) and all the movies, and I am still buying the remastered sets as they come out… hell I have even downloaded nearly 50 gigs of homemade music videos featuring the anime (among a few other things of non-mention that I didnt expect when I downloaded them)… I am a fan, and proud to say I am, but its sad when I see others saying they are fans and trash talking a movie no one has even seen yet… What right do you have to do this??? A real fan would wait until they saw the movie and then judged it afterwards, and still buys the movie for what it is, not for how it was… grow up people…
@NosShark: NosShark do you work for Fox??? or are the the Director or writer who is now realising that they have no idea about what they’re making GOKU in HIGH SCHOOL WHAT THE FUNK. . . . I’m goin to lay down again
doesnt anyone see anything WRONG with a WHITE MAN playing the role of an ‘ASIAN’ character? yet the only representation of asian characters are maintained in the supporting roles and of course the female lead?
this is socially unacceptable.
cant you see your messed up number one goku is not ASIAN OK! OH YA SURE THE OTHER DB MOVIE SHOW WHICH IS MAJIC BEGINS THEY MESSED UP. GOKU IS NOT AND WILL NOT BE ASIAN SUCH IT UPPP!
The photos look cheesey; I had high hopes for this movie but i think they’re just going to screw it up. I hope they get serious for the next one.
This movie looks so stupid….I really hope they dont mess it up.
What about Yamcha & Krillin?
ok seriously did you see the movie yet? no so why don`t you wait till the movie bklynbren
