Video Game Confirmed for PSP

Dec 14th, 2008

In the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, an advertisement was found for an upcoming video game based on the movie. Tentatively titled, “Dragonball The Movie,” the game has been revealed to be a fighter distributed by Bandai Namco Games for the Sony PSP. It’ll be released in Japan in March to coincide with the movie’s release.

Well, actually, this is a pretty smart idea for a movie based video game. Why? Well, historically speaking, Movie-to-video-game adaptations have almost never been successful except for a lucky few games that truely shine.

But beyond that what could we possibly expect from a game like Dragonball Evolution? Something akin to Iron Man and Superman Returns? I can only imagine.

I think it’s a smart move. There’s already a plethera of Dragonball Z games across many consoles and hand-helds, so making a whole new batch of Dragonball-Movie based games would just pollute the consoles with even more unwanted games.

This I see more as a testing ground for a bigger game if the PSP one is successful.

@goku jr: you obviously dont own a psp (of course im assuming, which is wrong but seems like, so..), the psp is not a next gem video game, sure, but its not that weak, it can easly fit in the psp, check crisis core or the next ff (dissidia), psp is not any portable …its like teen gohan…looks little but…well go ask cell

I hope they make an adventure/action-rpg game, im tired of playing fighting games (the ps2 ones are awesome but…getting boring).

When Dragon Ball Online is released, it should have enough impact to shove this in a forgotten corner. If this makes a huge pop with the gamers, then we take a little step closer to a doomsday.

It just looks worse because of all the jackasses out there who are upset that they arnt in the movie or their fanfic wasnt chosen as the script.
99% of dragonball fans would only be happy with a movie they made themselfes.
And it wouldnt apeal to anyone else but themselfes.This movie actualy follows the original story pretty closely. Anime is to over the top for direct translation to film. No anime can be made exactly like the show because firstly its a cartoon(yes shock aww its not real, animated!) and secondly the culture used behind anime is so very different. Anime artists actualy try to portray there characters as beeing white, they have a high tolerablitly for sex and violence. And they use colour that you wouldnt see in the real world. O and it has been said by Akira himself the Dragonball art is not realistic and messy, with many dopey characters.

FOX is minimizing promotion, obviously. If a game is only released on the PSP it will be very disappointing. Not because we’d have to buy a PSP to play it, but because FOX has decided that only a handheld is necessary for a live Dragonball film..

Who knows the factors involved to reach that decision, but apparently Dragonball is just obscenely abandoned at the highest degree.

We’re not getting some fantastical adaptation pulled together by some of the most creative minds of Hollywood, with brilliant story-telling abilities, or directing skills, we’re getting mediocre above all else. Whether this is because FOX has owned the license for a live film for so many years, and renewing that license last year is apart of the equation or not, we’re being gipped. It’s plain and simple- we don’t agree with their methods. We have to admit it at some point. The trailer speaks mediocre rehash and cliche all over it that I’m beginning to think it’ll turn into a Japanese X-Men.

I pray this’ll be picked up by a worthy company in the future.

Well I hope this is not a Fighting game, there are already waaaay to many of them, the ps2 ones are awesome but, its getting boring…but i wouldnt bet they would do it anyway.

About the characters not being enough, well there is mai (which in the movie she is a fighter), chichi (a weaker fighter but still) and the real ones, goku, yamcha, roshi and piccolo, thats 6 characters, i wouldnt count with bulma, thats not enough for a fighting game BUT, there are many games, based on movies, that just add others characters, like all spiderman movie games, all of them had more than 6 bosses and in the movies there is only 1 or 2.

Hoping they make a Action-RPG game, like the one in GBA, legacy of goku, and it’s sequels….in a psp it would ROCK.

How many times have we’ve all seen some character get really pissed off and go super saiyin (or not) and kill off the bad guy (ex: goku vs freeza, goku vs android 13, gohan vs cell, gohan vs bojack, gohan vs cell jr [twice])? That is my only concearn with this movie and the fact that there are some characters that should be in this movie like Goku’s best friend Krillin. Even though Krillin was weak shit in the series he was still a much better fighter than Yamcha and was a way more important character. I like the blue outfit that Goku wears in this movie but I cannot stand the fact that the trademark orange one he wears is worn with blue pants. It just looks really weird to me (and I’m sure to others) because everyone is used to the orange shirt and orange pants. As for Piccolo I think he came out great except for one thing, HIS ANTENNAS!!! Cuarto: Goku no staba tan grande cuando conocio a Roshi. Quinto: Que acaso picolo no es verde hoja??? (es el verde caracteristico). entre otros errores. Cierto, Goku tiene mas pelo y bulma es pelo entre celeste o blanco, pero se ve bien. Ojala saquen una version en espanol latino con las voces clasicas (si es que todavia se puede, no se si todavia existen los dobladores) seria una pequena ayuda para la peli. Recuerden que la historia de Dragon Ball sin llegar a Z es de 153 Capitulos que resumiendo todo (sin tomar en cuenta el tiempo que se quedaban viendo las caras) son 30 horas y media de historia… un poco dificil de resumir en un par de horas, tendrian que hacer como 5 pelis para mas o menos hacerla bien. Come On, Does anyone not agree with me that this movie is so unrealistic. I think the Japanese should of made the movie instead the Americans. The only reason why the Americans/ 20th Fox is doing the movie is to capitalize on the franchise. The name Dragonball would draw customers/fans, but to find out it’s a bunch of fruits who don’t know a single thing about the anime when growing up but just the name Dragonball is a whole lot of bull****. They’re in it for the money, they ain’t thinking about what and how the movie would be. Oh wells, I gurante that this movie is going to be bad like The Transformers oh wells…

WOW am looking forward to the movie but I think they messed it up it has nothing to do with the anime they only things it has in comment is the dragon balls and goku ,roshi , bulma , picollo and yamcha. they tottaly changed the story line making it horrible I mean come on the sky being invaded by whatever and they even put it in modern times which is gay. WOW a game made from a horrible movie based on the anime with awesome games.
